444.0. "Anyone know Kauai?" by MARIN::BELLEROSE () Thu May 18 1995 17:18

Hello,

My wife and I are heading to Kauai next week (yea!). My wife is
European and doesn't really like wearing a bikini top unless not
wearing one is out of the ordinary. Have any readers been to
Kauai? How acceptable is it to go topfree on "normal" beaches?
What sort of things would she have to deal with if she went topfree
(ie. gawkers, legal problems, etc.)?

I haven't seen any listing of nude beaches on Kauai, does anyone
know of any?

Thanks!

Kerry

    Sorry never been there .....

There was an interesting short article in the UK paper the other day
(Daily Express??) that said if women do not want to be molested on the
beach they should take their bikini tops off. That way the men will
take a quick look, but will be too scared to do any molesting!

    Cheers, Chris

Hello,

As a followup, we found a great beach, called Secret Beach, on Kauai.

Directions:

Heading north from Lihue towards Princeville.

Go past the Shell Gas station at the road you would take to go to the
Kiluaea lighthouse.

Take the next right.

Take the second right, down a red dirt road. Drive to the end of the
road, about 1/4 mile, and park in the lot or on the side of the road.

Follow the path along the side of the fence then down to the beach.
It's another 1/4 mile and is fairly steep at places.

You'll come out in the middle of the beach. If you walk all the way to
the left, you'll come to a small pool fed by sea water breaking over the
lava rocks and making a small waterfall. You can swim in this pond
especially as it grows when the tide comes in. The waves are quite
big in the winter and spring (we didn't dare swim in the ocean).

Walking to the right also leads to nude sections, although the middle
of the beach appears to be used mostly by surfers who seem to remain
clothed.

To the left there were less people, to the right more, but neither day
we were there was the beach very crowded at all. To the right, there
are several people camping in tents.

Enjoy.
