WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The Supreme Court has a message for any nudist in
the Los Angeles area: keep your shirt on.
The court Monday refused to hear an appeal by several people who were
arrested for appearing in the nude at Venice Beach.
The group claims the city ordinance against nude sunbathing in public
violates their constitutional rights.
But two lower courts disagreed, and the Supreme Court Monday steered
clear of the issue.
The group wanted Los Angeles to designate part of Venice Beach for
nudists, allowing those who might be bothered by the sight of bare
sunbathers to go elsewhere.
They claim that their lifestyle promotes a healthy acceptance of the
human body and counters offensive nudity displayed in magazines, on
television and in the movies.
