     Pen and paper can help in Park Service education work

     NAC's efforts to develop rapport between naturists and the National
Park Service have resulted in some progressive action, but it's time to
move a step further.
     The National Park System Advisory Board, a group of 16 private
citizens, will meet in New Orleans on Feb. 23-24 and we have to do
everything we can to convince them we deserve to be heard.
     Basically, the NPS has declined to deal with our issue and is now
tossing it onto the doorstep of the board, whose members may be less
than happy about being saddled with the matter.
     Consequently, when the board begins tackling the "What do we do
with a nude beach?" topic, these volunteers need to have plenty of
indication from our side to decide the matter warrants serious
consideration.
     Some of the greatest and kindest letters I have ever seen have been
written by naturists to government officials.  Why you so enjoy naturism
is a stone cold mystery to most Americans and to those in government,
but you love it so.  Your polite letters have been most effective
communications.  You have a talent to persuade that borders on the
remarkable and this is exactly the approach we need to use on the
chairman of this Park Advisory Board.
     Let's love him to death, tell him where we go and how much we enjoy
it.  Let's tell him how we keep the beaches and forests clean or how we
all go hiking off into the desert.  Help try to make him as enthusiastic
about naturism as we are.  Write to:

     We obviously don't want this group to tell NPS that they don't like
nude beaches.  So we need to write letters as if naturism depends on it.

    I recently received a survey from the National Park Service. I haven't
    looked at it yet, but if it asks for opinions on ways to improve the
    service, ensuring nude recreation areas will be one of my suggestions.
