319.0. "Manamet Beach, MA" by NODEMO::DITOMMASO (I cant get use to this lifestyle) Mon Jun 17 1991 15:54

Has anyone been to Manamet beach on the South Shore (in Mass.)

I have not been there yet, however my brother went there this weekend.
He has been going to Manamet for three years now, and so far has never
received any hassle at all for being naked.

The general attire on the beach is topless for women, with a few here
and there nude. Most men wear shorts.

According to my brother, the beach is never very crowded, except on
weekends which can get a little crowded.

The beach is at the bottom of some very high (3 or 4 hundred feet) cliffs
... which run along the beach for a few miles. There are only a few
sets of stairs that lead to the beach. Parking on the access roads to
the stairs is restricted. There is a church parking lot about 100 or so
yards away that allows all day parking.

Since getting to the beach requires a long treck down a very long flight
of stairs, I suspect both police and beach goers avoid that part of
the beach. This provides a nice uncrowded beach.

I am not sure of the town the beach is in, (its one or two towns south
  of Marshfield)

I will try to get some directions and post them here soon. It sounds
like a great place, and hassle free (especially during the week)

Sounds to me like your talking about Manomet beach in Plymouth. I lived
in Plymouth and the south shore for years and never even heard rumor of
any nude beach in the area.
I'm also a bit confused about your mention of the church parking lot.
There is a church lot about 100 yards from White Horse beach, about
5 miles north of Manomet but I don't recall any church in Manonet.

Yes, thats probably it, .. Manomet

I'd say I probably spelled it wrong. And since its that, Plymouth must
be where its at! Also, I recognize White Horse Beach being mentioned
by my brother, however, he did state specifically that it wasn't White
Horse Beach that he goes to.

Either way, since you seem to know where I'm talking about, you might
check it out. My brother has assured me that he and his girlfriend have
sunbathed many times there nude, without ANY hassles at all. Also
a good number of women (if not most) are topless.

Again, I'd say that maybe the section of beach that he goes to, being
only accessable by walking down a number of stairs, is probably secluded
enough where only a small number of people frequent it.

He also went there this last saturday, and said that the number of people
was greater than usual, but still not very crowded. He and his girlfriend
were nude, as well as a number of topless women and a few select other
  nude folks.

  I'd give it a try!
(I plan on it some time this summer!)

    Paul,

I'm heading down this weekend if you'd care to go with us. I'm
going down to my sister's place in Plymouth anyway, and besides,
my girlfriend wants to go. Send me mail and let me know. (Couldn't
    reach your node).

Needless to say I've been there many times and have yet to see anything even
resembling CO. Are you talking about the point? There is a small stretch of
rocky beach between the two points that separate Manomet beach ( private )
and White Horse beach ( public ). I've only seen this stretch of beach from
the lobster pound ( meaning it ain't so secluded ). Maybe I'm thinking of the
wrong place.

Please give directions!

319.6trying to get them actually, .. I've never been there.NODEMO::DITOMMASOI cant get use to this lifestyleFri Jul 26 1991 12:2219
   Hi, ..

I'll try to get directions tonight (when I see my brother) ... I've
never been there. (my brother is difficult to get in touch with)

Anyways, .. yes, its the private section. Actually in Mass. there is
no such thing as a "private" beach between the high water mark and the
low water mark. This is public property. I suspect the high water
mark is where the cliffs begin on this section of beach.

My brother said last time he was there, at around 5 or so, a lady
came down and tried to kick everyone off the beach, claiming she owned
it. (he didn't bother to argue, he was leaving anyways)

Anyways, I'll post the directions as soon as I get them.

319.7directions at last!NODEMO::DITOMMASOI cant get use to this lifestyleFri Jul 26 1991 22:4224

    Here are the directions! (finally!)

    Comming from north (marlboro)

Rt 128 South, To Rt 3 South, Exit 4 to Plymouth (only left hand
exit on highway), Follow road for about 3 miles, (go past pilgram
power plant, also past Plymouth Plantation Road). You come to
an intersection with a set of lights and you see a sign for
white horse beach (don't take that left), go straight until
you come to St. Bart's Church (I think thats the st., a big white
church) take that right at the church, and park in the church parking
lot. (big lot) - across from the parking lot (east) is the access
road to the beach, Walk down that road to the end (about 200 yards)
stairs to beach are at the end of the road. Once you're on the beach,
go left, ALL THE WAY TO THE POINT. (some times difficult to get to
at high tide, about 10-15 minute walk). Its a private little area
and you should have no problems ...

    Enjoy!
