197.0. "Someone, Anyone -- VALLEY VIEW?" by CURIE::PROGRAM_TEMP () Thu Aug 17 1989 11:23

Here's a request that needs a quick response...

Can anyone tell me anything about Valley View (the CO hotsprings
in Colorado Springs?) I'm flying out Friday p.m. for the weekend
(a birthday gift!!!) so whatever info there is, I'd LOVE to hear
    it.

This will be my first trip off the East Coast since I was a
young child (and that was a long time ago!) and I can't wait to
see the Rockies. Actually, I have no frame of reference for
Colorado, no idea what to expect. Any tips for restaurants
or other places to check out???

    Thanks!

    Melanie

Hi Melanie

YES ! I can tell you what it's like.

Valley View is located in the mountains of Colorado, about a
three hour drive away from both Denver and Colorado Springs.

If I'm not mistaken, you must be accompanied by a member in
order to get in. If you don't know anyone who is a member there, then
I suggest you call them in advance, and ask for some special arrangements.
(Perhaps tell them about this conference, and how their resort is known
by people all over the world, and how much you'd like to visit, etc, etc).

They aren't called the "hot springs" for nothing. There are three
main hot springs on the mountain. Two of them are fairly small, but one
of them is very big, which is called the "party pool". All three have
water that comes comes up just over your knees, so you have to sink down
into the water (practically lay down) to be fully submerged. The water
temperature is very comfortable no matter what time of day or night.

The water that fills the hot springs starts somewhere up high
on the mountain, and drains into each of three spots on its' way down,
so the water level never changes. The water eventually makes its' way
down to the resort area, and into a man-made pool, from there it flows
down hill a bit further and through a sauna before making its' way into
the valley down below.

There are places where you can set up your camper or pitch a tent,
or you can stay at the co-ed "hotel", which sort of looks like a house. The
hotel has three private bedrooms on the ground floor, and then a single room
upstairs with about 4 double beds, which can be shared with up to 7 other
people I suspect. There are also three private cabins that can be rented.
I should mention that there are no water or electricity hook-ups for campers.

There is one (fairly big) co-ed bathroom, with sinks and running
water, 4 or 5 toilets, urnals, and open shower. Open shower means that if
you use it, other people can see you. This shouldn't be any big deal though,
since the entire resort is C/O. There is also a private section of
the bathroom, that has a toilet and shower and you can close the door if
you want your privacy.

Bring your own food. There is no restaurant, no grocery store,
and no snack bars of any sort, so if you don't have any food, you'll starve.

The view of the surrounding countryside is just spectacular.
Antelope run wild in the valley, and deer run wild in the mountains. VV
owns a big chunk of land, and since they do not allow guns on the property,
the animals are protected.

It can get quite hot ! Since the elevation is between 7,000 and
8,000 feet, the suns rays are much are more intensive. Bring plenty of
sun screen and friend to apply it ;-) .

	Have a nice holiday !

Regards,
Darrell

197.2More info on VVGENRAL::KILGOREWe are the People, Earth & StarsThu Aug 17 1989 15:1920
The owners of Valley View are Neil and Teri Seitz. They are young couple, I
think in their late 30's, early 40's, don't know for sure, but what's in an
age anyway? ;-)! You can give them a call at (719) 256-4315. You will probably
reach an answering machine, so leave a message, they will return your call.
Remember to mention your area code, if calling outside the (719) calling area.

Here's an address in case you'd like a brochure or further info and have the
time to write:

	Valley View Hot Springs
	P.O.Box 175
	Villa Grove, CO 81155

Again the phone number is:	(719) 256-4315

August and early September is the rainy season usually, so expect mud. Sitting
in the springs with a light drizzle is OK, just don't plan on sitting in them
with lightening around. Not a good idea!
