131.0. "Hot spring visit in California, 1/22/89" by MOIRA::FAIMAN (light upon the figured leaf) Fri Jan 13 1989 10:28

I'm reposting this from REC_NUDE, since someone here might be
interested. (I have no personal knowledge of or connection with the
trip being planned or with its planners.)

If you are interested, note that you will have to get in touch with
the organizers by telephone or Internet mail -- they aren't DEC
    people.

To E-mail them from DEC, get into mail (it's to much hassle trying
to get the quotes right when sending mail from the DCL command line)
    and send to

If you like HOT SPRINGS and you like ADVENTURE you should like this.
Paul McGinnis and Tom Middleton (thats me) are planning an all day
outing to what has to be one of the premier hot springs in Southern
California. The place is called "Deep Creek Hot Springs" and is just
inside the San Bernardino National Forest boundary near the town of
Hesperia and the Mojave River. I have been there once before but we
will be using a different access route this time.

The trip is planned for Sunday, Jan 22 (yes, I know thats Superbowl
Sunday, I just don't care!). Paul is located in the Huntington Beach
area and will be organizing a carpool from there. I am in San Diego
and will be organizing a carpool from there heading up I-15. Our
carpools will meet in Hesperia around 10:30 a.m. and we'll have a short
breakfast/brunch there (exact location to be determined). Since that
is a little more than two hours from San Diego my carpool will leave
around 8:00 a.m.

After eating we'll drive out to a place called Bowen Ranch which is at
the trailhead and provides parking (small fee involved). The trail is
about 2 miles long so some hiking is necessary to get to the hot springs.
But it is worth it, there are multiple pools of varying temperatures
of water. We'll take some food and beverages and plan on spending 2-3
hours at the springs just kicking back and enjoying life. Please note
that this is a clothing optional area so if that sort of thing bothers
you don't come. [Reference #448 in book "Hot Springs and Hot Pools of
the Southwest" by Jayson Loam and Gary Sohler.]

If anyone else wants to arrange a carpool from your area let me know
or just post the information to appropriate news group(s). I'd like
to have about a dozen people going. My phone number and both email
addresses are below so let us know real soon if you are interested.

131.1Info on Lake Tahoe Hot SpringsAIMHI::WILSONMon Jun 04 1990 13:2613
I'm heading for Lake Tahoe on Thursday, with my girlfriend who is not a
naturist. She did say she would be willing to go to a hot spring in
the area, and use That naturally.

So I am asking our well-informed readership if you know of any hot
springs in the Lake Tahoe, CA / Reno, NV area that have a tradition of
nude use. Please reply in this note, or send me mail (AIMHI::WILSON).
(The World Guide, and my girlfriend's memory of the area, are
sufficiently outdated that I prefer to doublecheck.)

    Thanks!

131.2Tahoe hot springs?MISERY::WARD_FRGoing HOME--as an AdventurerMon Jun 04 1990 13:3519
    re: .1 (Jack)

I am very unfamiliar with Tahoe and any springs that might
be there, so don't go by my knowledge for this. I do know, however,
that most of the people I know who go to visit hot springs usually
go to Calistoga or the like (Harbin Hot Springs and others...I've
not been to yet, but I have been to Wilbur Hot Springs.) Most have
co-ed facilities, I've been led to understand, while Harbin, for
one, is large and clothing optional. If I were to "guarantee"
nudity I'd put my money on Harbin.
All these places are within 50 miles of Napa, by the way.
Napa is about 45-60 minutes northeast of San Francisco (45-60
miles north of Oakland.) From San Francisco these places are
much nearer than Tahoe locations. Check a map out and look
carefully, for I'm not real sure.
