| What do you mean, "social"? Like a nudist campground?
Like a nude beach? Hot tubbing with friends?

| I may be wrong, but I SUSPECT that:
1. For men, the general preference is to enjoy nudity in
a social environment, less often when alone.
2. For women, nudity might more often be practiced in the
privacy of the home or enclosed backyard; in other words,
enjoyed more frequently in private.
Any validity to this?

From what I hear about men's locker rooms that is true...comparing it
to the women's locker only. I can remember besides me there was only
one other person in my senior year at high school that was brave enough
to bare herself and walk nude to the showers. And god foresake, take a
shower with a member of the same sex! Oh, my!

If most women could get over the hang-up about worrying about what their
bodies look like, I think more women could 'enjoy' more public nudity.
Of course, there will always be people (both males and females, closed minded
people) that will voice their opinions regarding what other people's bodies
should be like and about their distaste for 'ugly' ones. Now if we could do
away with such mentality, the whole world would be healthier!
You also have to keep in mind...it is not publicly acceptable to parade around
in the nude. Varied upbringings have alot to do with how people handle nudity
and if they correlate (connect) nudity with sex and if sex is 'dirty' to them
or not.

| As with the Volkswagon Beetle, the body style doesn't change. Thus
the saying, if you've seen one youve seen them all - so thats the
big deal. We all look alike in the dark anyway.

72.5 | Either way is fine | MOIRA::FAIMAN | A goblet, a goblet, yea, even a hoop | Sun Jun 26 1988 22:57 | 11 |
| Well, being around other naked people seems to "validate" the
experience. I mean, of course it's ok to be naked alone; but being
naked with others directly defies the nakedness taboo. You've
somehow accomplished more by being socially nude. So I prefer
social nudity.
On the other hand, I don't have to have other people around to enjoy
being nude. I can be perfectly happy being nude at home in the
evening, or outside in the yard. So both ways are fine.

| I haven't really considered private nudity to be fundamentally any
different than taking a shower or a bath or something like that.
When outside the privacy of my own home ( or backyard, etc. ), I
prefer to find other people who enjoy being nude because of the
security of having others in the same boat, so to speak, should
you get "caught". If I were "caught" in the nude by myself, I would
be at greater risk of harrassment than if I were "caught" with others.
Add to this the fact that I enjoy looking at other people, and enjoy
their company in general, I really do prefer to do it with others.
It really helps me to relax and enjoy myself. With other people
there, there is a good chance that I can come back and that spot
will still be there (if the prudes don't take even more for
themselves).
To me, being nude by myself isn't that special, certainly nothing
worth writing about. Being nude with other people is a completely
unique experience which can not be compared with anything else I
can think of. In a society that seems saturated with nudity-sex
associations, it's truly amazing that people can get together and
trust each other enough to go in the nude.
