3.2 | I thought Colorado was WEST! | GENRAL::KILGORE | The Desert Rat | Sat Aug 20 1988 19:06 | 21 |
| >> With just one or two exceptions, the most notable being Judy out
>> in the mid-west, geographical response has been restricted to New
>> England.
Jay, I thought mid-west is like Iowa or Kansas. (At least by weather
forecasters!) I consider Colorado definitely West. Colorado is included
in the book "Hot Springs and Pools of the Northwest"! Most maps of the
Southwest include Colorado. I'm not a geography expert so can't say for
sure...so don't take my word for it! ;-)!
I know of at least 3 Colorado people (this includes myself) that have had
input in the Naturism notesfile. I'll let them ID themselves. Have gotten
together with one of them and enjoyed a weekend at Valley View. And the
other...one of these days we'll meet and enjoy an nude afternoon together...
hopefully soon.
I do know other naturists that work here at CXO, but either don't read or
respond to this notesfile. Not everyone feels like coming out of the "closet"
yet!

| Salut!
>> I'm surprised by the limited area response to this conference.
As am I, but then again, what is the percentage of DIGITAL employees in
New England, as opposed to the rest of us out here in the rest of the
world?
>> Surely, the nicest way to hear about locations in Florida would
>> be to hear from some folks in Florida. Likewise for California,
>> the Gulf Coast, the Pacific Northwest, Lake Country in New York,
>> and so on ...
I would very much like to hear about locations in other countries, which
is not to say that I haven't enjoyed learning about sites in the USA.
>> How about logging into this note, and just letting us know where
>> you're from? Is anybody there?
YES!! YES!! I'm here...fairly silent most of the time, but here with you
every morning after my extractor has done it's job. I'm at EHQ in Geneva,
but I live on the other end of Lac Lman (aka Lake Geneva) in Vevey. My
experience with co beaches and other naturist areas in the US is limited;
however, I've traveled quite a bit in the Caribbean and in southeast Asia
and can probably recommend beaches and recreation areas in several countries..
so start doing some traveling!
I'm sorry to say that I've not discovered many areas in Switzerland, but
I'm still hoping and looking! Perhaps some of you can help me.
Regards,
Lillian

3.7 | California *IS* somewhat here. | WRO8A::WARDFR | Going HOME--as an Adventurer | Mon Aug 22 1988 13:16 | 18 |
| I hope I don't get chosen to represent all California nor
all Californians. But I am here, in the Santa Clara (Northern
California-San Francisco Bay Area) portion of DEC. I do not
belong to formal nudist activities and don't anticipate it.
I go nekkid whenever I feel like it and there are various places
where I can. I have already responded to a couple of notes here
and even in DEJAVU (that had to do with being naked along the
near-by coast.)
I encourage everyone to take their clothes off...at least
as long as it doesn't seem inappropriate to do so. As much as
I like nature, nothing is as beautiful to me as the sight as
a naked body (usually female, but that's my preference.) So,
from a bit of a distance, I communicate and encourage. Incidentally,
I am in private practice as a massage therapist (nine years as
a "pro".)

3.8 | I'm Canadian, eh ? | KAOFS::D_BIGELOW | Amateur Analytical Analogous | Mon Aug 22 1988 14:06 | 45 |
| HI,
I think by now everyone knows who I am, from the notes that
I've entered in the past 4 months.
I'm Darrell, male, age 25, married (recently), no children,
2 cats, career oriented, and kind of fall into the category of
a middle-class DINK (Dual-Income-No-Kids). I live in a suburb just
outside of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Sounds like an ad doesn't it ?
It's not, just giving a brief overview.
I've been a naturist for about 5 years. There really is only
one public naturist location within an hour's drive from where I
live, and it isn't legal there any more. The land is owned by the
National Capital Commission, and their Park Rangers CAN enforce
any of the laws the NCC dictates. Fortunately however, they don't
seem to bother anyone, as long as the naturists use only a specific
area of the park, (out of site from cottages around the lake. Kind
of funny really, cause you would need a pair of binoculars to see
the cottages close up, so I really don't know how they can tell
if there is any nude people across the lake soaking up sun!). And
I don't get up there as much as I'd like to, since my new wife is
not an active naturist (except perhaps in the house on occassion),
and doesn't like the long hike to get to the naturist spot. She
says she doens't mind if I go alone, but she puts me on a guilt
trip for not spending the time with her. Oh well, C'est La Vie !
On vacations, I always make sure that there will be a naturist
place to visit, close to wherever we are going to stay. I love
the freedom from clothing, and the feel of the sun and the wind
all over my body, makes my skin tingle...mmmmmmm....just thinking
about it feels good!
RE: .7 - Fredrick
We have a lot in common ! I am a massage person on week-ends,
for a Natural Healing college up here. Write me sometime.
Incidentally, anyone interested in a massage while visting this
area is more than welcome to get in touch with me to set up an appoint-
ment.
Regards,,
Darrell

| I am a native Californian working in the Western Software Lab in
Palo Alto.
I am a former member of Lupin, which is probably the least sexist
naturist organization that I ever visited. (They changed their fee
structures and it no longer made sense to pay for the few times I
visited.)
I have a hot tub and am a certified therapeutic massage prctitioner.
Social nudity does not seem exceptional too me; I don't practice
it as much as I think I would; I am no longer much of a campaigner.
I will tend to post something quite infrequently.

3.12 | Ben Wong...who? ME? | CADSE::WONG | Le Chinois Fou | Mon Aug 22 1988 23:05 | 19 |
| Oh well...when in Rome...
hi y'all...
I'm Ben Wong, a transplanted Canadian, now in Boston.
I've been a Naturist for about three years now, formerly a member
of Solair in Connecticut. While it's not necessarily cheaper, I
now go to Moonstone in Rhode Island. Solair is family-oriented
and more private, but Moonstone is more comfortable when sunbathing alone.
None of my good friends have gotten psyched enough to try it.
While I don't talk about Naturism to everyone I know, I'm quite
comfortable discussing it here. I'm sure that alot of people that
I know read this (you're all a bunch of voyeurs! :-)) so they'll
find out eventually that I'm a Naturist.
This is a pretty decent notesfile; I picked up a few *GOOD* penpals
here with whom I correspond on a regular basis. It's kinda nice
to be able to talk freely about naturism with others.

Hi, my name is Phil and I've enjoyed reading this file on a daily
bases.
Both the wife and I use to enjoy going to the Desert Beach Club
in Penrose Colo.the people were great and so were the times. It is no
longer in business.Never made it to Valley View but hope to someday.
Yes we are very new to naturism and yes it took the two of us a while
before we felt relaxed.
Keep up the good work and who knows maybe I might come out of the
closet.

3.14 | More New England | MOIRA::FAIMAN | A goblet, a goblet, yea, even a hoop | Wed Aug 24 1988 15:42 | 13 |
| Well, I don't have much geographical diversity to add, but I'll sign
in anyway.
I live in Wilton, NH and work at SpitBrook Road in Nashua. My wife,
Lynne, almost-7-year-old daughter, Elspeth, and I have been
naturists for around three years now, mostly at the Ledges in
Vermont and our nearest nudist camp, Cedar Waters.
And of course, the reason my name is so familiar by now :-) is that
I'm the one who happened to have the system and the inclination to
start this conference.

| Time for another New Englander to check in...
I've been pretty much read only, though I do put in my
.02 cents worth when I've got something to say.
My name is Marc, and I'm an analyst with the STO Organization
in Shrewsbury, Mass.
Have only been "sans garments" outside the home once, and
that was in Wells, Maine at the nude "spot." Other than
that, I'm an indoors practicing nudist. I feel much more
comfortable without clothes on, but haven't taken the opportunity
to explore outside the home.
I'm 24, live in Spencer, and I'm gay. I've heard about the quarries
in Milford (?) as a spot frequented by other gay nudists....perhaps
I'll get off my duff and check it out.
Thanks for creating and moderating this conference, Neil -- I've
gotten quite alot out of the information and the conversations
exchanged within the realms of this notesfile, and I hope to be
able to contribute more as time goes on.

3.18 | | TOKLAS::FELDMAN | PDS, our next success | Fri Sep 02 1988 19:26 | 88 |
| As the third moderator, I suppose I should add my own description
here.
I had my first close brush with naturism when I was 14, at a summer
camp. The bunks we had, complete with electricity, hot and cold
running water, showers, and flush toilets, hardly qualified as anyone's
idea of "roughing it", except perhaps for all the mothers who couldn't
understand how there precious kids could live like this. To give
us a real taste of camping, we would have one camping trip each
summer. This meant hopping in a bus, driving to a state campground,
pitching our tents, sleeping on the ground, and driving back the
next day. The "roughing it" part came when we were forced to eat
our counselor's cooking, instead of the reasonably tasty meals back
at the real camp.
Anyway, this one particular summer there was an extra camp trip, for
those of us who a) liked the idea; and b) were sufficiently well
behaved to deserve the treat. One of the counselors made the mistake
of admitting he knew of a spot where we could go skinny dipping. My
memory is flaky at this point, because I don't recall whether a group
of kids actually went to try and find the spot, with no success, or
that there just wasn't enough time to go looking. Either way, there
was no skinny dipping on that trip. I was lucky, because at that
tender age, and having grown up in the wilds of New York City, I didn't
have the foggiest idea of what the term "skinny dipping" meant. Had I
known, and actually gone to such a spot, I no doubt would have sat
bored, lonely, embarrassed, and fully clothed on shore, as I was still
too young to appreciate the finer things in life. Who knows, the
entire experience might have been so traumatic, that I could have wound
up being one of those people who wears a swimsuit to take a shower.
I'm glad nothing came of that misadventure, but I now regret not
having gone to a Quaker camp.
As I grew older, I became more open minded, but lacked opportunity.
I was finally able to see, and be seen by, the great outdoors during
my senior year in college. A group of us had arranged for a picnic
at a secluded lake and conservation area owned by the university.
It was a mild spring day, but not quite warm enough to anticipate
swimming, so few of us were prepared. It took an unusal event to
get anyone in the water.
A few of my friends successfully liberated a row boat from the dock,
and managed to row it to the other side of the lake. I was not on
board. At this point, one of the passengers in the boat decided to
show the others what four years of being on the crew team had taught
him about propelling boats in water. He proceeded to take over the
rowing of the boat by himself, and with a few mighty strokes of the
oars greatly impressed the other passengers by snapping one of the oars
in two. Now row boats are not canoes, and oars are not paddles.
You cannot effectively move a row boat with just one oar. The
occupants of the boat, being on the verge of completing an extremely
expensive Ivy League education, started out ignorant of this fact
and foolishly neglected to take a spare oar. Sexist gallantry won
out, so that the three male occupants stripped to their skin, jumped
into the water, and swam the boat ashore. The lone female, whose
hair was both long enough and blond enough to do a Lady Godiva
imitation, decided that discretion was the better part of staying
warm and rested, and so remained clothed in the boat.
It was only as they got close to shore that those of us who had
remained safely on dry land realized that people were actually
swimming, and that the lack of swimsuits was no obstacle. Not having
been in on the whole story yet, we mistakenly assumed that they
were having fun, and so a few of us, too, stripped to our skin,
and joined them. And yes, it was fun for us, especially when the
dean of the residential college passed by and tried to guess what
we were wearing below the water level.
As I recall, the muscular crew member who was the cause of this
event decided to remain in the water awhile, too. Whether he did
it because he honestly liked skinny dipping, or just to prove to
the others that the water really was perfectly comfortable, or to
protect his exposed and somewhat vulnerable skin from being bruised
in embarrassing places by the other two unwilling swimmers who stood
exhausted on shore, is an open question.
This was my introduction to skinny dipping.
Anyway, other than this one lake trip, my skinny dipping has been
limited to mountain streams. I like being out in the woods, seeing
few people, and swimming in cool, clear water. Though I've been
to the Ledges once, it was, as luck would have it, a day too cool
to expose myself. Still, I look forward to the day that I can visit
a more open, less secluded, nudist or naturist site. I really must
get to Moonstone one of these years, seeing how my brother lives
in the same town.

Perhaps some day we'll move to some other area of the country where
opportunities for nuding are more plentiful/closer.

3.22 | From Waltham comes . . .\ | TRUPUT::JWILLIAMS | Zeitgeist Zoology | Tue Sep 13 1988 13:42 | 12 |
| John Williams from Waltham, here. I've been to the ledges and to
Martha's Vineyard, many times. The hardest part about Nudism is
the tendency for people who have never tried it to call it sexual,
as if all of life were not. I wish people would loosen up a little
and enjoy themselves and others. I am saddened at the lack of naturist
spots in the area. I would like to see moonstone next summer.
A bathing suit is just a pain. It doesn't hide much of anything
and interferes with everything. I hope people gain the sense to
take back what's rightfully theirs, and realize there's something
wrong if you DON'T have feelings.
John.

I've been lurking about on the side lines here for awhile, so
might as well throw in my 32 bits worth. Just to prove there is
life west of the Berkshires.
I'm in field sevice in south Los angeles. I've been to a few
of the beaches in California, but would hardly consider myself
an active nudist. Single males don't seem to be overly welcome
at most beaches, and the subject doesn't often come up with any
of my lady friends.
I did have one intresting experience this past summer. I was
up in the San Louis Obispo area, duing my two weeks with the U.S.
Army, some of the younger troops wanted to go down to the local
nude beach to gawk and drink beer. Being the only one with my own
car (good old DEC-wagon) I got elected to drive.
Well, the old sarge wasn't going all that way on a hot day and
not go swimming, so I moved on down the beach a ways, got into
proper uniform for the ocasion, and dove in.
The youngsters still haven't figured out why I was the only
one invited to the party going on 50 feet down the beach.

in. I live in Lyndeboro, NH, and work in Nashua at Spit Brook. I've
been frequenting naturist areas for the last 2 summers, but I've always
preferred being nude. (I thought you could only do it when no one's
looking! :-) I've never been to a nudist resort (except for a quick tour
of Cedar Waters once), spending my time instead at the Ledges in Vermont
or at local swimming holes.
I got started when some friends dropped by and suggested a trip to the
Ledges. We went, had a great time, and this past summer I was there
pert near every weekend!
I'd also like to thank Neil for a fine conference, and I hope it keeps
up for a long time!

3.28 | Naturists + Clothes = Unnatural | CALDEC::MATTESON | | Mon Dec 12 1988 22:42 | 26 |
| Hi all you skinny-dippers, nudists and naturalists,
Well I just found this note conference and felt obligated to
add my name to the roster. It's been interesting reading. I've
wondered, on my various visits back to Mother DEC (when i've
had time to wonder anything..i'm usually pressed for time it seems)
where one would go to enjoy a nice nude hottub or swim. I've been
a nakedist/whatever for at least 15yrs. I started on this decatent
path at a place called Getting In Touch where we had bazaar parties
of body painting on Holloween, massage orgies (multiple
hands pouring lovingly over well oiled bodies..strictly non-sexual
but very sensual and tripy for the recipient) and classes which
dealt with all matters of human hangups and just plain fun. It was a
singularly unique place where psychologists, engineers, carpenters,
nurses, kids of all walks, you name it, all were welcome and
participated in a very caring environment. I have been a member
of Lupin, a resort in the Santa Cruz Mountains (Calif), for approx.
5 yrs. and it is equally a very delightful place to relax with
clothing optional all year round. For anyone coming to this area
feel free to get in touch with me and i'll try to set up a time
to show you around and if that is not possible i can at least send
you their newsletter which will have enough info. for you to get
in contact with them. Since i have not completly read this conference
this info may already be available? Anyway, I will certainly visit
this conference from time to time and add what I can.

| Hi all,
Well, I'm a frequent reader but infrequent contributer. Unfortunately,
I haven't been able to experience any *real* naturism, although I do
enjoy being nude when possible. I also was took photography as a
minor in college (recent grad) and did a lot of work with nudes, both
self-portraits and with male and female models. I loved it!
I live in Waltham, and these Boston swims sound interesting, but they
have always been past tense by the time I opened this file. Maybe I'll
be able to make the January 21st one. I'll try to keep my eye open,
but I have to admit that being a SMWOFA (Single Male w/o Female
Accompanyment) has got me a little nervous about going without knowing
anyone (aside from all of you that is ;->).

absence. Still can't figure out why I quit - musta been religion or something.
My wife Judy and I plan to take our two preschool boys down to VV at least 4
times a year. They have already been twice since last summer. I find the
place to be the most relaxing I can think of. It's very easy to forget that
one has a real life while in one of the pools there. Glad to see some other
CXO'ers here.

3.31 | goosepimples - not me | VOGON::MURRAY | | Fri Mar 03 1989 15:37 | 36 |
| Jim Murray - Reading UK - trying to redress the balance between
Old and New England but its an uphill struggle. - Contracting for
Dec on and off for the last 10 yrs. They call me a s/w engineer
- I think that means programmer.
Anyway I've been nuding for about 4 yrs - just 'cos I like it and
unfortunately I adopt an almost evangelical attitude to it and extol
its virtues to anyone rash enough to mention anything even remotely
connected. My wife doesnt think too much of it but she does swim nude
on holiday - but then again she's consistent - she'd rather wear
regular clothes than beach wear.
I've got 3 kids (boys). The oldest one's just going through puberty
and thinks naturism is the daftest thing since boiled cabbage. The
other two ( 11 & 8 ) were also highly sceptical until I took them
along to a club. Previously they would always change beheind towels
even on foreign nudist beaches but this particular club was great
- an old mansion house with sprawling grounds and little dells and
glades and now they are converted "Dad when are we going to join
Diogenes" ( Diogenes is the club).
I know no other naturists and since XYL is not interested I can't
actually join any clubs. But I rarely if ever wear clothes once I'm
home - winter or summer. The neighbours I think are fairly laid back
about it which is fortunate since the gardens are not at all private.
Nuding at home did pose a problem at first since our house is fairly
open - I.e. multitude of visitors - in-laws etc. I used to cover
up at first but it got too much of a hassle so my rule now is:-
If I invite someone then I cover up. Certain other people - old
ladies , young kids etc, the same. But for anyone who feels happy
just to drop in then WYSIWYG. - haven't noticed any mass exodus
of friends/relatives etc. - wonder if this could be the subject
of another note?

3.32 | Howdy | CLOVE::MACDONALD_K | | Thu Mar 23 1989 10:57 | 22 |
| Well, I guess it's about time for me to sign in - since I've been
reading this file regularly (sort of) since last summer.
My name is Kathryn, I work in Nashua at TTB and I'm a Graphic Designer.
At home, I'm married (since last fall), have a 7-year-old step-son,
two cats, and my first child is expected to arrive this coming fall.
I've enjoyed going to nude beaches and other outdoor nude activities
for about the last ten years or so, and recently (last summer) got
my husband used to the idea. He loved his first experience at
Moonstone - although we don't bring his son along. I don't think
he'd ever be ready for naturism since he feels it necessary to close
and lock his bedroom door just to change his shirt! Maybe it's
just because he's only seven and hasn't been brought up in the type
of environment I intend to raise my own child in. Also, I think
his mother would probably have us killed if we brought him to Moonstone
with us. You know how some people think...
At any rate, I'm sure glad to have found this conference. I thoroughly
enjoy all of the conversation. Thanks Neil!

3.34 | Ian Philpott | HAMPS::PHILPOTT_I | Col. Philpott is back in action... | Wed Apr 12 1989 08:24 | 59 |
|
Hi, I'm Ian Philpott, universally known as "The Colonel", though
I have signed into so many conferences over the years, I won't bore
you all with an explanation.
Until recently I was in New England, and have now re-re-located
back to England. To complete the family picture I have been married
two years (nearly) to a delightful Thai woman, who prefers to be
known by her baptismal name of Ann. We don't have any children yet.
I had a first experience of naturism that should perhaps go in the
first experiences note but I'll put it here... I'm perverse, in
at least that sense you see. When I was sixteen I was beginning
to get serious with a girl of my own age that I had known for several
years. Being quite formal I asked her parents for permission to
court her. Then they dropped the bombshell: they, like me, were
of Gaelic extraction. They had apparently maintained a very old
gaelic tradition that is still occasionally encountered on the Atlantic
fringes of Ireland and in the Hebredes off Scotland: they believed
that before a couple became engaged, or "went steady" they should
see each other nude. They would only agree to my going steady with
their daughter if I agreed to this. Now my reactions were to say
the least mixed: to this point I had gone no further than holding
hands and stealing a kiss on the cheek - and now her parents were
demanding that I inspect her naked body! and let her inspect mine!
with them present acting as chaperones! It took a lot of soul searching
I tell you but I agreed. (Incidentally this has many purposes -
it is meant as a test of nerve for the couple - it also avoids problems
later if when you see each other nude for the first time you find
the fires of love[/lust] dying rapidly). The day came and the ceremony
was duly performed. (for the read-only gawkers - the rest is in
your imaginations I'm afraid - it was really rather chaste). After
that I was invited to holiday with the family at their cottage,
and that was my first real period of naturism, for none of us wore
clothes from the time we arrived, till we left three weeks later.
After that I joined a naturist club with the young lady, and went
regularly. Incidentally that relationship didn't last a great deal
longer, but then I was only young and so was she.
After that I joined a club with my then female companion. As I have
said elsewhere when that relationship broke up I was summarily ejected
from membership because I was now that most heinous of beasts, a
single man! I haven't had more than a casual contact with the world
of naturism since, though recently have found myself becoming
interested in renewing the contacts.
For those who know me from Deja Vu it is worth saying that I came
into an interest in the Old Religion through that early relationship
- it has little place in this file, though I have one observation
based on it that I will start a topic with - but it is worth saying
that for thousands of years the adherents of the Old Religion -
call it Wic'ca if you like - have communed with their Gods and with
nature whilst in the nude. I often wonder if a lot of the modern
puritanical objection to naturism is in fact based not on real morality
issues, the interpretation of the Bible or anything else, but is
in reality a memory of the days when society tried to suppress Wic'ca
and all it stood for at any costs.

| Participants (and readers) are invited to introduce themselves
here. It's always nice knowing something about your fellow noters
in a conference as you read their notes.
If you're a naturist already, you might want to say a little about
how you came to naturism. If you aren't, you might want to say
something about what brought you to this conference.
By the way, these notes have been moved from the middle of the
conference, where the original topic was dedicated to discovering
the geographical distribution of our participants, so for the
sake of tradition, you might like to mention what part of the
world you're in.

I transferred to an internal field service group supporting
manufacturing in Colorado Springs in 1977. I am now a project
specialist in the IN-DEC WEST F/S group in Colorado Springs. I
celebrate my 21st wedding anniversary on 24-AUG-89. The oldest
of my three children, my only son, graduates from high school this
June. I just started reading the NATURISM notes file a couple weeks
ago and find it enlightening. My major contribution so far is note
#162. Neither me or my family have really experienced nudism yet.

3.36 | ---A voice from Switzerland--- | SKYWAY::PRAXMARER | Yugoslavia, for the 8th time! | Thu Jun 01 1989 11:50 | 31 |
| Hi there!
I stumbled over this conference, and liked it. For the past 12 years
I have been a naturist, vacationing in Yugoslavia and Lake Constanze.
Reading through the conference I noticed that hardly ever a contribu-
tion comes from Europe. I don't know a single person within DIGITAL
with whom to share this common interest.
When in the U.S. next time and weather permitting, I might get in
touch with you.
I am a double citizen (US and Swiss) living in the Zurich area.
Married, 3 sons, 1 daughter. Age 54.
This summer I will be at the Dalmatian coast in July for 3 weeks.
Seemless suntan guaranteed! NO INSECTS!!! Food and wine heavenly.
Male/Female ratio about 50:50, if not slightly more females. Water
temperature 74-79. Cost of living: You wouldn't believe it, think
little and it's less. A Dollar tip and within an hour every hotel
employee knows and bends over backwards.
Anybody else heading that way?

| Jim Henderson here. Been a read only noter for about 8 or 9 months. Have
always enjoyed being nude but circumstances prevented any public nuding until
recently. Changes in my marital status provided an opportunity.
This past weekend I went "public" for the first time at the Ledges. Enjoyed
it immensely and look forward to the next opportunity.
The information and discussions shared in this conference and advice from
some of the folks in here were encouraging and I found my first time went
off with out a hitch as a result. I look forward to participating in future
group gatherings.
I presently work in the DAS facility in Andover.

My name is Kevin Herbert. I've followed this conference for about 2
years. I live in Southern NH, and work in Littleton, MA. I'm a
principal software engineer with the Distributed Systems Architecture
and Advanced Development group (those people that bring you the DECnet
architecture). I am a member of the Wide Area Networking Advanced
Development group.
I've visited a variety of places, including an old mine shaft in
Colorado and the resort Hedinism II in Jamaica, and like to get to the
Ledges when I can during the summer. I haven't been to Moonstone yet;
schedule conflicts kept me from the last one, but I'm going to try to
make one of the trips.

In any case, I've enjoyed CO on a limited basis for the past

sunning excusively so at Gay Head.
Since I'm new to this conference, I have a question ... where can
I go for sunning in this area. I'm specifically interested in going

3.43 | Another Among You | POLAR::PENNY | There's one for you, nineteen for me | Wed Sep 13 1989 10:07 | 26 |
| Time to enter an introduction. My name is Dan Penny, and I work in Syst. Mfg.
Eng'ng. in Kanata, Canada. (KAO).
My wife and I are naturists at home only so far. We own 43 acres out in the
country south west of Ottawa, Ontario. Kanata is directly west of Ottawa.
We have been searching for some good spots to go swimming and enjoying the sun
outside of our property, but with little luck so far. I have contacted Darrell
Bigelow (you've "seen" him in this conference, he works in the next building)
for some spots, however for first timers, they seem not quite right. We would
like to "initiate" ourselves (for social naturism) in an area/spot where there
are only maybe 20 : 30 others, and we could have our own "private" space on
the beach, while still being in a group atmosphere. (If you know what I mean).
We have two children, Michael - age 7, and Nebraska - age 4. Michael is
starting to follow our "lead" around the house, and is looking forward to nude
swimming/beaching. (It's a daring/fun thing to him at this stage). Nebraska
however, is not too keen on being nude. She's comfortable with us being that
way, but she isn't with herself yet.
That's about it for now. I have only one reply in here so far (Judy News)
other than this, but you'll see more now.
(Well Darrell, I finally entered the conference "officially". ;-)

Hi,
Paul here, .. another New Englander, (metro west to be more
specific)
So far, I haven't found any place I like more than "the cliffs"
(or Long Beach) on Martha's Vineyard.
My girlfriend and I spent a week there last year, and loved every
minute if it! We plan to go back every year.
I strongly suggest Long Beach to anyone who hasn't tried it yet,
its not only a gorgeous beach, and interesting (people who play
in the clay are very interesting) but also a beautiful island
to enjoy for a vacation.
Well, hope to see some of you there next year, .. I'd like to
hear from you if you'll be there!!

| I've been following this conference for about a year and a a half, and
am finally getting around to putting in my official introduction note.
I live in Hollis, NH and work in Database Systems in Nashua (TTB).
My husband and I have been involved with CO activities for about 4 years.
(He was initially interested, and spent quite some time talking me into
it, which has worked out just great!). Our first formal activity was
the Saturday night NENA swim parties down on the south shore. We go
to Moonstone as often as we can get ourselves psyched for the long drive
(which unfortunately, isn't all that often recently) and have been
to Club Orient twice (planning another trip in February!).
During an extended leave of absense in 1987, we travelled extensively
in western U.S. and Canada, and made it a point to visit as many ASA
clubs, beaches and hot springs as we could, as well as seeking out
secluded places in the national parks where we created our own sites!
(references supplied on request :-)) We noticed that the general
attitude toward naturism, etc. is much looser and more accepting on
the west coast than it is around here.
We're expecting our first baby in 2 weeks, and as you can tell from my
note in "Children and Naturism" have some apprehensions about what, if
anything, the "new addition" will have on our lifestyle!

| Hello all you DEC Naturists! My name is John Reid an I too am a Naturist!
I am also a member of the New England Naturist Association N.E.N.A.
With in N.E.N.A. I am the SIG leader for the Bare Back Packing sig
which I started in Feburary 1987. I do three bare back packing trips
a season June July and August. I have tents to accomodate a crew
of 14 people and set up each trip to accomodate the experience level
of the people joining me. I publish my own news letter and place
articles in the NENA news letter. I can be reached on
USWAV1::REID or John Reid @OFO if any one is intrested in joining
me on a trip. Now that I have had a notes course from my wife I
hope I can reach out to other DEC naturists and get more people
using the White mountains of New Hampshire in naturist activities.
A word on NENA it is a family organization also dedicated to the
enhancment of the naturist life style and is made up of members
in all the New England states.
See you on the Trail!
P.S. I also have placed articles in CWS and the EVENT about my back
packing in the White Mountains. Watch for them in the near future.

| I realized that I have never put an introduction in here for us, so
here goes.
My wife Pat and I are both Naturists, leaning more towards finding
places to enjoy the sun sans clothes. We recently moved from New
England where we visted Cedar Waters (in New Hampshire, highly
recommended) to Colorado Springs. We both work in CXO3 in customer
support positions.
We currently belong to The Naturists Society. We will be looking into
areas here in Colorado and the vicinity for places to enjoy the sun.
Indeed, we are looking into designing a privacy structure on our deck
at home to be able to enjoy the sunshine here in the Springs in the
summer.

| Hi Y'all,
I'm John Donnelly (alias: JD), a transplanted Southern Californian,
via Boston, now in Dallas. I've been a naturist for the past 6 years.
I have frequented Moonstone Beach just about every weekend during the
summer, a friend of mine, rents a place at Roy Carpenter's for the
whole summer. I've gotten both he and his wife involved. I will
miss Moonstone.
I'm planning a trip to Hippy Hollow with some friend here in Dallas
over the Memorial Day weekend. I've been sunbathing on my deck for
the past 2 weekends.
If anyone is ever in the Dallas area. Please stop by and look me
up.

| I have re-entered this note since my node has changed and the new
VTX ELF refuses to list folks on disability.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess it's about time I signed in.
My family and I have been nudist (social) since 1980 when we
first joined Dyer Woods. Prior to that we were household nudists
but never with others.
We arrived at Dyer Woods in a strange way, we were avid campers
(ok tent trailer at the time) and were looking for a seasonal
site in a rustic campground. One afternoon, while campground
hunting, I stopped at a rest area on I295 in RI and picked up a
a campground listing published by the state.
Later I read the description to my wife and, much to my surprise,
she said that she would try anything ONCE. Well, we went down
one day early in April and found a rustic campground and the
nicest bunch of folks we had ever met camping. I took my clothes
off right away and my kids (two boys) asked if they could too!
It took my wife about 15 min to join in.
We were invited to stay for dinner and ended up taking a site
that day!
Today my boys are 15 and 12 and enjoy going with us. My 15 year
old found a girlfriend there so it isn't hard to get him to go,
even though 15 year olds often don't want to go camping with mom
and dad (any kind of campground)
We are still active members (my wife is on the board) and we
have worked up to a 32 foot trailer which is really a summer
home.
we are woodland nudists, not often going to beaches. I am
permanently disabled but DEC has been nice to me, I still have by
badge and computer account which helps keep my sanity.
Great notes file!

3.51 | New to Colorado | CSC32::K_JOHNSON | | Mon Jul 23 1990 23:30 | 21 |
|
I'm newly relocated from Santa Clara CA to Colorado Springs.
Must say that I love the 'Springs, but do miss the beaches.
I've been a naturist for as long I can remember- but have not
yet joined a formal organization. It was my experience in Calif.
that most formal groups whom I contacted were reluctant to welcome
single males- and my S/O was not interested at the time in
participating. Perhaps I'll find that this is not the case in
my newly adopted state.
The people I met at the beaches and other informal naturist gatherings
were some of the nicest I've known, and I fully expect to find that
true of here as well. It's long been my belief that people often shed
their differences along with their clothes- it's one great social
equilizer!
I look forward to reading this notesfile, making new friends, and
finding new places to enjoy the naturist lifestyle.

3.52 | New York, anyone? | SUBWAY::LANKA | | Fri Aug 03 1990 10:06 | 13 |
| Hi. My name is Jeff Lanka, and I haven't seen anyone from the NY metropolitan
area, yet. I joined DEC a month ago, and have been a naturist for 12 years. I
grew up and still live on Long Island (NY). Fire Island has some great
naturist beaches, among them Robert Moses, The National seashore east of Point-
O-Woods, Davis Park (my first), and my now favorite, Smiths Point. At Smiths
Point, Tri-State-Metro Naturists usually come down on National Nude weekend.
Recently (back in March) I visited my first Nudist resort, in Florida called
Sunsport Gardens. It was really great! It was one of the few I contacted,
that accepted singles. And to think - some people live there all year round.
I hope to hear from any NY Met. area naturists, and to someday attend a
gathering. For now, happy sunning!

3.53 | Nudism in Europe: More entries please! | UTROP1::TODD | | Sun Aug 12 1990 13:08 | 12 |
| I am Philip from Holland, 43 , married, with 2 kids. Nudism is quite popular over here, and there
are several camps and beaches alongside the Northsea where nudism is
permitted. Yes, Holland is a tolerant country with regards to other
people's behavior.
In summertime we (wife + two kids) go usually to France, where there
are many possibilities for naturism.
For instance, the Isle of Corsica is a paradise for our kind... Very
much recommended!
Anyone else from nearby to share experiences?

3.54 | fond memories of Blacks Beach | CSC32::G_WILLIAMSON | | Wed Aug 22 1990 15:58 | 21 |
| I discovered the Naturism notesfile while it was broken. Now that
it has been repaired, I can now throw in the big intro for myself and
the wife. We are both Naturists, even though we do not belong to any
formal Naturism group. We always enjoyed frequenting places like Blacks
Beach in La Jolla, Ca and Hippie Hollow in Austin, Tx. Thanks to
Jerry (the Maker of Gort), we discovered Desert Reef Beach Club south
of Colorado Springs (where we presently reside). Plan to try to get
down to Valley View before summer is over.
Both of us are very UNinhibited, but Cindy was usually nervous
about going in the BUFF for the first time at a new place, which was
the case for our first visit to the DRBC. This, of course, did not last
long. In fact, the following week, she was asking when we were going to
return, which was the following week-end.
Well, I'm not much into very long notes. We're looking forward to
meeting and knowing more Naturism type people.

3.55 | I'll bet you're sorry you asked... | EVETPU::MACK | Embrace No Contradictions | Thu Aug 23 1990 09:51 | 57 |
| I just happened upon this conference and am glad to see that there
are some resources in Digital for getting information.
Depending upon how you look at it, I either am not yet a naturist,
having never experienced social nudity, or have been one since I was
very small.
I've always had dreams and a longing to walk in the sun without clothing,
but, except for one summer night during my high school years in the woods
behind my house, I've never nuded outside my home. (The mosquitos were
vicious and it was a trifle cool - brr) During high school I used to take
my clothes off as soon as I got home sometimes, as my parents both worked.
Since then, I hadn't nuded much. Becoming a Christian and facing
groupthink in the churches had a lot to do with that. The influence
of the church (but not of God) has less of a hold on me now, leaving
me freer to do pleasant, harmless things that I really like to do.
A few months ago, I read a novel by John Ball which was set in an ASA
resort in California (see, John Ball is still having an effect) and was
excited to find that there were people who felt constricted by the
necessity of clothes and the close association of nudity with sex, and
that these people were (a) organized and (b) open, but not "recruiting".
Since then, I have been dressing less around the house, and have been
privately wondering about where people go and whether I would have the
nerve to join them.
This notes conference and the newsgroup are a godsend to me. Practical
discussions about things like sunblock and insect repellent as well as
reasonably up-to-date site information make it so much easier to get
started.
I live in Nashua, NH with my wife and 3-going-on-4 year old son, and
work at Spit Brook Road. Lorraine doesn't share my interest (yet :-))
but is willing to go with me if she can stay clothed. Eddy, of course,
is altogether comfortable in the altogether.
I am about 100 lb. over my ideal weight, all of it gained after my
Christian experience became dominated by groupthink, about 3 years
into college. (Too bad - I'd had 4 years of healthy, balanced faith
with a charismatic prayer group before that.) I'm finding that the
good feelings about myself engendered by nuding around the house at
night are starting to affect my eating habits. I'm even starting to
take an interest in exercise. I may get back below 200 yet.
See, even budding naturists can be boring :-). (If I talk too much,
just tell me to shut up. I can take a hint... :-) )
Ralph
P.S. Nashua Public Library has a decent collection of John Ball novels.
They don't have any non-fiction on the subject of naturism (as far
as I can tell) except for a reference work giving the location of
a handful of libraries (mostly private) with special collections on
nudism or the beaches movement. If there isn't a topic about
naturist information in libraries, I may start one.

3.56 | about time I do | SNOFS1::KAPTEYN | Before Vax... I am... | Fri Aug 31 1990 05:22 | 13 |
| Been reading this file for a while but forgot to introduce myself.
I was born many years ago in Holland but since 1962 I am an Australian
living in what is called the Golden West. (Perth W.A.)
I was born nude and since then have been going around nude as often
as was possible. My strong believe is that the body was not created
for clothing and the modern clothing is not designed with the natural
biological functioning of the body in mind. I am also a believing
Christian and find that this does not have to be a objection to
nudety. When I was a Young lad I found there was a lot more sexual
activety in the Church Youth groups then at the Nudist Clubs (C/O
beaches werent much around then).

3.57 | Glad You're All Here! | JUNG::FARBER | The Brewmaster | Sat Sep 01 1990 11:42 | 30 |
| I am new to both DEC and the Naturism conference. I am not new to
naturism, however. Finding this conference has been very exciting for
me since my opportunities for social nudism have been extremely limited
over the years.
Club Med, Guadaloupe was my first, and really only experience of social
nudism, back in 1979. Since then, while I go about in the buff at home
to the extent possible, social nudism has been unavailable to me. My
wife, who doesn't care to participate, doesn't mind my interest,
however. That isn't to say that my interest in nudism is merely
tolerated, only that she doesn't care to join in. Our two little
girls, aged 7 and 3, seem to be natural nudists (as I suppose all
children are).
Anyway, my basic point of view on all this is that most people don't
seem to be able to differentiate nudism from sexual contexts, and that
is a real shame. Perhaps that is just a symptom of American sexual
repression. Americans seem to be very preoccupied with sex because
they are repressed. If we all went around in the nude together, I
think the sexual 'edge' of things would be smoothed down. I suppose
what I am trying to say is that in these times, a fascination with sex
because the naked human body should allegedly stay hidden can be very
dangerous. Maybe I should open a topic on the subject?
Needless to say, I am very glad the conference is here (thank you
Neil!), and look forward to discussions, and outings when possible with
those of you in the Northeast.

|
Well, I've been reading around in here off and on for the last
few months, so I thought I might as well quit being a voyeur
and introduce myself.
I'm Kathy Gallup, 25, single, and hate clothes. Well, if I have
to wear clothes, I'll wear 'em, but I'm MUCH more comfortable
if I never have to have them on. I wear clothes around others
for their comfort, but when I'm alone my clothes are usually
stripped off. There's nothing better than sleeping in the
nude (unless of course you're cuddling someone else!) and I
usually wear loose clothing because I hate bras and undies--My
body was not made to be bound and gagged! 8-)
I've never participated much in social nudity. In fact, this
summer at the Ledges was perhaps my first real nude setting
(where people actually go somewhere to be nude). I'm sure
next summer will include many jaunts up that way as well as
down to Gay Head on the Vineyard. I don't have a lot of spare
time to participate in this conference, but I will be reading.

| Hi, I am Vickie and have been reading this file for quite some time
and decided I should finally sign in. My husband and I have been
into naturism for about 2 years now. We live in central North Carolina.
We enjoy going to the a nudist resort here in North Carolina, and
really enjoy the Outer Banks, but do not enjoy being hassled by
the rangers. We do hope to be able to go to other places in the
future, but we do stay busy with three kids 7,9, and 11. I am mostly a
read-only, but will reply if I have anything worth saying I will do so.
Neil, and other moderators, thanks for this notes file.

Hi,
I haven't been to a 'legal' nude or CO beach yet. Most of my nude
activity occurs around the house/yard. I have done some nude
tanning/swimming at the local river near my house at secluded spots.
My wife isn't too into social nuding, but I don't think she'd have any
problem with CO areas.
Been trying to promote more exposure on the beaches this past year and
am certainly looking forward to the coming summer.

3.66 | All bodies are bueatiful | BOSOX::BRIDGES | light up or leave me alone. | Fri Mar 01 1991 11:14 | 34 |
| Hi,
I have never been to a nude beach/club/camp but I have always felt
strange in clothes. I've been sleeping in the nude since the age of ten.
I don't like the restrictive feel of clothes and am always uncomfortable
when wearing them. In fact the first thing I do when I get home from work
is to strip down, hence my interest in naturism.
As a child growing up, coming from a Baptist family public nudity was
frowned upon, but at home amongst the family it was no big deal, a slightly
hypocrisy IMO. Nudity on T.V. and in movies offended my mother, my father
could care less. My mother always felt the female body was ugly. One thing
I was always taught was that spiritually you had free will, so as I got older
I had my own interpitations from the bible. I also felt free to discuss opinions
with my mother, one issue was nudity. I would say that if God is perfect how or
why would the human body be imperfect, and adam and eve did not hide their
bodies because God told them to, but because in their eyes it was wrong.
So hangups have been around for a long time 8-). I would also say that it's
not the nudity that is "sinful" but your thoughts brought on by nudity, ergo,
nudity is not sexual, your THOUGHTS are.
I won't dwell on religous ideas, because not everyone has the same ideas, so
I won't. My wife is not as "free" as I am about nudity because when she was
at home nudity, even amongst the family it was frowned upon. As my son gets
older (he's 17 months) I've tended to be more careful around the house. But
I will not allow him t grow up beleive that nudity is wrong. I feel that
alot of the sexual criminals become so through repression of sexuality and
a ideology that nudity is shameful and wrong. Mystery is what drives lust IMO.
Enough rambling,
Shawn

Hi! I'm Dave Dawson.....so where's the applause? For most of my life
I have *HATED* wearing clothes but finding a place (outside your
bedroom) has been kinda tough. I like nude bodies...it leaves nothing
to the imagination so its easier to get on to the really important
things like "Who are you....really?". I am a moderator of Christian
Perspective and believe that God made us and we *ARE* beautiful...just
as he/she/it made us. <---did that cover everybody? :-) I have been
read only for some time now but I think I might just start noting here
so here I am.

Thought I would finally introduce myself. My name is Bob Adams
and have been a Naturist all of my life also. As a young child
and thru my teens, the most fun was had at the 'old swimmin' hole
down at the river or pond. I didn't know what I was, nudist,
skinny-dipper, exhibitionist, untill I found a copy of the World
Guide and joined the Naturist Society.
I am usually not too vocal around most people regarding this life
style, but as I get older I start to have less regard for what
people think of me.
I also belong to NENA and was the original author of the site
guide. Did this for about 3 years before they decided to do it
more professionally.
My only claim to fame is a mention in the new World Guide on the
third page under listings, I'm the first name.
I am taking the early retirement (SERP) and 5/29 is my last day.
Any more SERPers out there in Naturist land?
Enjoyed this notes file very much, and good luck to everyone.
....and get nekkid........Bob

| Hi! I am Serenity Starbright and I have been a non-card carrying
naturist for about 28 years. (First experience 1964 or 65 - a very
enlightened flower child) (smile)
I moved to the New England area about a year ago and have been to the
Ledges in Vermont about a dozen or so times while the weather was warm
last year ... looking forward to when I can run into all those
wonderful folks again ... have not been able to attend any of the
hottub parties yet ... I work nights and also weekends, which tends to
leave me out of alot of gatherings. I do get every third weekend off
though! Hurrah!
I have the phone number for NENA now and will contact them this week to
become a member.
It's wonderful to be here!
