590.32 | Long Lasting???? - NOT | CNTROL::AMOS | | Wed Apr 23 1997 10:21 | 8 |
| How long should a gas grill last? I bought mine 3 years ago and I am
down to one burner. There is rust everywhere. The paint has
burnt/peeled off. I can't get the screw out so I can replace the
burner. Any ideas??

| It depends on how much you expose the grill to the weather. The burners will
rust - replacements are widely available. You may need to work a bit more
at the screw or even drill it out.
I haven't seen flaking of paint on the standard black grills, those painted
with a gloss enamel might flake after a while.

590.34 | Let's see how long this one lasts... | ALFSS2::MITCHAM_A | Andy in Alpharetta (near Atlanta) | Wed Apr 30 1997 09:56 | 11 |
| My grill lasted about 3-4 years without a cover. Not unlike you, I had
alot of rust (the bottom of the cart which held the propane tank was
rusted clean through), the starter was long dead (lit from undeath with a
fireplace match or lighter), etc.
I recently bought a Sunbeam Grillmaster through Service Merchandise for
about $180. It has much more grill space, seems much better built -- I
throughly enjoy it (we grill out every week throughout the year). Oh,
and I did buy a full-size cover as well.

| I've had my cheap sunbeam grill for 9 years now...but I put it in my shed
after it cools down and it's never exposed to the weather.

| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a full size cover for my grill, which I placed on it during the
winter. Unfortunately, the inside was an exposed "stuffing-like" material.
Seems it was the perfect bedding for a mouse. Boy were we surprised when we
uncovered the the grill and started hosing it down for the new season! It
was completely full of food and bits of stuffing from the cover.
I don't bother with a cover now. I consider it my role in the grand plan
of planned obsolescence.
