221.0. "Informix V5 support on Digital UNIX V4?" by OTOOA::JPOND () Tue Jun 03 1997 09:44

    Hi there,
I have a customer that is currently running V5 of Informix, and we are
trying to sell them an AlphaServer running Digital UNIX V4.

Are there any issues with this configuration? Is it supported? I note
from a previous entry that V5 works on V3.2g (i.e. on the Rawhide).

    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

I've asked for a read from Informix regarding supported or not.
I think it *has* been tested and is available for sale.

One issue you should definately be aware of is that V5 is not a
highly parallel architecture- SMP systems will not scale anywhere near
as well under V5 when you add the 2nd, 3rd, 4th CPUs to the box. We
had a *huge* customer dissatisfaction issue with one case in the past
where somebody configured a multiple-cpu AS2100 with Informix V5 and of
course didn't get the required performance.

    re -.1
Thanks, I was aware that post-V5 was when SMP support kicked in.
As you are probably aware, we are trying to upgrade a customer to a
newer box, but he does not want to touch the Informix side. Any
    pointers happily received.
