I'm at a customer site where they are running Informix on a RS6000. Each time a new network client attempts to access the Informix database via TCP/IP on the RS6000 we must make a new entry into the /etc/hosts file or Informix refuses to permit the client access to the database. Is there a method to turn this securty feature off . As you might guess I know very little about Informix. I'm involved in a Windows-NT migration project which is using DHCP. If I have to maintain the hosts file on the RS6000 each time a new DHCP address is assigned the client will not be able to access the database server. If Infoxmix uses some type of TCP/IP address secrity is there a way to permit access from all nodes on a given subnet ? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Ray

I'm not sure- off the top of my head I'd try wildcarding the hostname field in the SQLHOSTS file on the RS6000. Anybody else? DougO

The customer claims that they never modify the SQLHOSTS file and that the hosts file is the only modification that they make. I'll look at the SQLHOSTS file today. Thanks Ray
212.3 | So modify SQLHOST how ? | ODIXIE::RREEVES | Fri Apr 04 1997 11:41 | 11
I looked at the SQLHOST file , there are 4 columns which I have no idea what the first two are. The last colmns (3 & 4) seem to be database server hostname and tcpip servername. The first column looks like database name and the second colum is either one of two values olsoctcp or sesoctcp. So what was your suggestion for a mod to this file ? |
