Informix V5 is pre-Dynamic Scalable Architecture. It is the last variant of the first database architecture Informix used. DSA is a complete redesign- with multiple CPU VPs implemented on a user-mode threads package to take advantage of SMP machines. DSA is capable of substantial performance improvements over pre-DSA implementations. But if the application was developed pre-DSA, and doesn't use all of that parallel capability- is single-threaded- then it may show better on V5. DougO |
