We have tried Diazanon along the foundation. It is certainly a
toxic substance, but it has not caused any problems with our cats.
You can also try enclosed ant baits, but one of my cats had tried to
bite open one of those packages, apparently the baits smell like
yummy food. We've found that the safest way to deter ants is to get
professional help. The professionals have new products available
to them that's not available to homeowners and they also have
applicators that are more precise = gets the chemicals in the right
places so less chemicals is needed. I have heard that this product
called REVENGE is very effective, but it is supposedly a sweet tasting
bait, which may be a problem when used outdoors = bees and other
animals may mistakes that for food.

| Pour a few pots of boiling water into the nests. You may need to
repeat this for a few days.

natural repellants - tansy leaves, cloves, eucalyptus leaves, just
crush them and cover their area. Wash away trails with some soapy
water.

| actually, for around the foundation CEDAR MULCH (not the cheap pine
mulch) will work as well. There is something about cedar that is toxic
to ants. Unfortunatly, it attracts the cat across the street who thinks
it is a public litterbox (his humans use cedar litter in his box, and
he feels the need to mark my mulch as his territory).

| The Terminix guy who lives next door to me just provided four ant
bait thingies that stick on the wall. They're the professional
version of the Combat-type ant bait. When he first put them up
there was a bunch of ant activity. They swarmed the thing. Now
there's very little activity. Supposedly they've taken all that
bait back to the hive and killed the rest of the ants. I still
see a few ants here and there but not as many as I did before.
According to the Terminix guy, these are pharoah ants. If you
spray their hive they split the hive so instead of having 1 hive
you now have 3 hives. He's supposed to replace the ant bait things
in a few days.
These ants are all over the inside of my apartment building. Every
tenant has them. Apparently, I'm luckier than I thought. It seems
everyone else has a worse infestation than I do. Whew!
BTW, my mom swears by these ant bait things. She says she puts them
outside her mobile home and it really makes a difference.

Yes Elaine is still in Barre. She's opening a big kennel in - I think
Winchendon. When I go home we go up and visit the cats. Many
beautiful kittys....
