| | I would go to the vet. This is the kind of wound that tends
to abscess, which the vet can prevent with an antibiotic shot,
which is much easier on the kitty than having to have it incised
and drained, etc. once it does abscess.

| | To clean it, in stead of the human first aid creame, clean it off with
warm water and hydrogen peroxide. It will foam a bit, and sting a bit,
but it will also prevent infection.

| | Well when I got home and got him it, it had gotten worse. So this
morning the vet came by, dropped off antibiotics, and I have to
keep the wound open and clean for now. Warm water and HP. Since
I caught it early he thinks it will heal quickly. The only concern
is that it is around a boney area (the head) and may heal longer.

| | Warm water and HP are always good cleaning and disinfecting materials.
If your cat is constipated, about an inch of vaseline forced into its
mouth will get things going in most cases.

Vets are naturally uneasy about telling people about simple solutions
to minor pet problems. Trust yourself, an expert only means the person
has a degree of some sort and we all know how difficult it is to attain
a degree. A little common sense and a little bucking of the status quo
    goes a similar distance.
