932.1 | Three cats is not too many | USCTR1::ESULLIVAN | | Thu Sep 07 1995 13:54 | 23 |

Rob,
Please continue your effort to place your two kittens and thank-you
for taking the responsible approach in trying to place the kittens
in a good home, or no-kill shelter. As you have found out, it is
difficult to find homes for all litter siblings. There are just
too many cats born and not enough good homes.
As a 'responsible parent', please spay the mother cat, and if you
do not find takers for the two kittens, you need to spay or neuter
the two kittens before they mature and bring more kittens into a
world where there are not enough responsbile people to care for
them.
You will be able to place the two cats, but this may take time and
you need to be patient. In the meantime, three cats is
not too many to care for and love.
Good luck,
Eleanor

932.2 | five is | SEND::MURTHA | Rob Murtha | Thu Sep 07 1995 14:44 | 19 |
| Thank you for your reply, the mother and other
female cat is spayed, the total that we have
is five. Unfortunately I can't afford the nearly
$300 dollars it will cost me to spay the two
kittens and neuter the male that we are keeping.
This number is based on previous spayings, drugs
extra days at the vet etc. I've also spoken to
several vet assistants who say the average price
is $120 dollars although most vets will quote $60-$90.
Not to mention the shots that the vet's always seem
to give before asking.
I'm still hoping that someone will want the kittens
who are growing fast, calico and tiger.
Thanks,
Rob

| Almost every place has a low cost spay and neuter (and
shots) program available; your local shelter may be able
to point you at one near you.

932.4 | Try advertising.... | RDVAX::TOIVONEN | | Thu Sep 07 1995 15:05 | 8 |
| Try advertising. Most Digital facilities have employee interest
bulletin boards. The local grocery store sometimes has a bulletin
board and the pet supply store. It also helps if you have a
really cute photo to accompany the ad. Some ads have tabs with
contact numbers on them so it's convenient for anyone interested.
Good luck...all kitties deserve a good home!

932.5 | Who would have guessed? | AKOCOA::MORGAN | | Tue Oct 24 1995 09:13 | 12 |
| I just recently adopted a cat (from all places) from the Dog Officer in
Hudson. I never realized that they dealt in cats! There were numerous
litters and they even set up special deals with the local vets for
future spay costs. The officer probably just found them, and not sure
that people "donated" the cats to them, but it's worth a shot?
Unfortunately where this isn't advertised, not many folks know to seek
out their local dog officer to get new animals. I know they don't put
them to sleep, but they do put the word out to shelters and vets so
folks advertise word of mouth. Hope you've had good luck!

932.6 | What about a non-kill shelter in Salem | MEMIT::ADAMEK | | Mon Nov 20 1995 11:11 | 7 |
| Have you tried Northeastern Animal Shelter in Salem, MA?
It's the non-kill shelter and people there are wonderful.
They helped me to find homes for 8 strays (6 kittens, 1 mother cat,
and 1 male) since the end of last year to February '95.
