896.0. "Found a lump" by NRSTAR::BACHELDER () Thu Jun 15 1995 06:18

I just had my Ebony into the vet a couple of weeks ago for her yearly
checkup and shots. About a week and a half ago I noticed a lump on
her left side. When I touched the lump she appeared to have no pain or
sudden sensation from my touching it. It doesn't feel hard, it's more
soft and it moves around a bit. It's definitely under the skin.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm bringing her to the vet
tonight for a look-see. I've got my fingers crossed that is just some
fatty tissue or something, although she's pretty petite weighing only
    9 pounds.

Lauri,,,it is best to let the vet check it out to be sure, but
I do know sometimes cats will get little lumps where they
    had their shots.

    Let us know....

    Lauri,

Where on her left side? It could be vaccine site sarcoma which
    can be easily removed.

Holly had a lump like that show up at the vaccination injection
site (between her shoulder blades). It was a temp. reaction to
the vaccine and went away after awhile, but I would definitely
have any lump checked out, just to be safe.

Hmm, the lump is located on her left side more toward her hind end,
just past the half way point of her body.

    Oh, I'm hoping, hoping, hoping it's just a vaccine bump-thingy. I'll
let you know what the vet says.

Keep your fingers and paws crossed!

.6 is a deadloop/broken link ghost note. I'll try to delete it, if not,
mods pse do it. The text in .6 goes in an offline mail to Lauri. I
could rescue the text, but I could not put it back from the EVE buffer
    NOTES$EDIT into the confrence... sorry.

    Well...

We saw the vet yesterday and she said that she didn't feel a discrete
mass. She felt "something", but it didn't feel like a tumor and it
obviously was not causing Ebony any discomfort.

Now I'm not a worrywort, but I now that bump was never, ever there
before....and it *is* a lump. The vet said that maybe it was just
something I never felt before. Well, I've had Ebony almost 5 years.
She's a lap cat who loves pats and I brush her twice a day. I don't
see how I could have not felt it before.

I felt kinda stupid...I know my cat. She said to watch it for a month
and if there were any changes in its size or texture to bring her back
in....and that will be $29.00 thank you.

I gotta find a new vet!

Re needing to find a new vet: Agreed! Even if your vet was correct, she should
have made sure that you understood -why- she said what she said, and she should
have listened to you.

Re new vet: yes. And show the cat to the new vet - without breaking all contacts to the old one, for 1. the more
vets you have the better, 2. might be she was very tired and as for the problem seemed to be harmless to her she
did not explain too exactly. People tend to be few-worded in things they understand too well, they seem to think
you have the same experience and one word is enough. Do not blame her too much, perhaps.

Re lump: It may be a small sack in the texture of the skin which filled with some fluid. So you did not notice it
before, for it was not there. For instance an insect's stich or the like. The one-month trial shall clear the
problem probably. If it really does not change for the worse, the more, it goes away, and cattie is not disturbed,
forget it.

Paws crossed on.

    Lauri,

Where are you located? I'm sure that the people in here could
recommend a very good vet for you.

I'm glad that it's nothing serious.
