878.0. "No-kill shelters?" by NCMAIL::RIVARDB () Mon Apr 24 1995 09:09

      Could someone tell me if there's a no-kill shelter near Gardner,
    Ma.? If there is could I have the name and address? One of our van
    drivers lives there and he's been watching a kitten that hangs around
    his neighborhood. He says he thinks somebody dumped it off and it tries
    to follow everybody that walks by. The poor little thing's been there
    for about a week and he's been feeding it, but he can't take it home.
      If only I could have just one more........

            Thanks,
               Bunni

     Hi,

    The attached is from a very old (over 3 years old) list of the no-kill
    shelters in this area. Since the list is so old, I can't say if
    the shelters still exists or if they are still No-Kill shelters.
    But just ASK alot of questions if you do call them. The sad news is
    most good no-kill shelters are always full and have a very long list
    of cats waiting to be rescued. good Luck....

878.2I bet on NE shelter in SalemMEMIT::ADAMEKWed Apr 26 1995 14:4718
    I would highly recommend NE Shelter in Salem, MA. They have helped
    me to find good homes for 6 kittens, an young mother-cat, and
    a 3-year tomcat. Any of those kittens or even adults haven't spent
    more than 1 week at the shelter. This shelter is clean and
    people there realy care about animals. I have been there many time
    during last few months. I could tell that a lot of people come every
    day to adopt cats or dogs. But the shelter is very selective and
    cheks on all perspective owners.

    There is the only problem. The kittens have to be vaccinated and adults
    spayed/neutered, as well as test for FELV and have a rabbies
    vaccination. The kittens didn't cost me too much but for 1 female and
    1 male I spent a lot of money for vets bills. But it was worthy. I have
    always had a great feeling when they told me that the kitty had been
    adopted and who took it home.

    Good luck to you and the kitty as well.
