848.1 | Cover them or make them taste bad! | LJSRV2::FALLON | | Fri Jan 06 1995 07:22 | 6 |
| Two things I can think of are:
Rubbing Bitter Apple on the wires/tubes
Getting those large plastic tubes witha slit so so you can place
the good wires inside of it!
Hope this helps.

| Thanx,
Already have the plastic tubes ( )-8 ). The cat bites the part between
the wall and the TV. I see you put Bitter Apple in capital letters, (like maybe
it's a product or something?) If you mean actual apple juice, that seems pretty
temporary. Please elaborate.
Thanx,
Dan

848.3 | TRY ALUMINUM FOIL | ICS::GROEZINGER | | Mon Jan 09 1995 06:25 | 12 |
| I'd try wrapping the wires in aluminum foil. I know Andie hates
even the sound of it!
My darling Cassie would chew through telephone/answering machine
cables. I kept after her with the spray bottle. Eventually, she
quit, thank God!
Good luck!

| Bitter Apple is a spray which you can buy at pet stores. The idea is
that it tastes real bad. It can be used for birds who pick their
feathers too!

| Sounds like your cat is related to my late Rebecca (fang-kitty). I can't
count how many telephone cords, tv power cords and clock cords I replaced.
I also have many paperback books that have those distinctive puncture marks
along the edge of the cover. She seemed to think that everything she could
get into her mouth was intended as dental floss!
What finally worked for me was to run the phone cords (not the coil cords,
but the wall<->phone cords) through slit plastic tubing. I purchased the
amount of tubing I needed at the local hardware store and just threaded the
phone cord through it. The trick is to get the *entire* cord within some
sort of protection, no ifs, ands or buts.

ps. If I got the tubing wide enough, I didn't have to slit it.

| I think I'll try foil first. Then go on to the other ideas if that
doesn't work. Hope Lucy hates it. She's already on special food that she hates
(unfortunately forever )-8 ).
Thanx,

848.7 | Careful. | BPSOF::EGYED | Per aspera ad astra | Tue Jan 10 1995 23:42 | 8 |
| Just my 2 cents:
1. Be careful - biting a power cord through can electric hazard shock
the cat to death in worst case. (forgive the awful grammar)
2. Ask your vet if the cat has a teeth/gum problem: mayhaps something
irritates her mouth and that is the reason for biting wires (and
everything else)

| Bitter Apple also comes in a tube as a paste. This would be a lot easier to
apply to the cord. I tried using it to make the ends of my magazines less
palatable for Malcolm who likes to lick clay-coated (shiney) paper. It worked
but I gave up because it would get all over my hands making me anathema to the
cats. Sigh.
