821.0. "Real life Scaredy Cat" by PSYCHE::AIKEY () Mon Oct 31 1994 09:55

    Hi All!

The town where I live (leominster) had Halloween last night. The kids
had nice weather for it.... The reason that I am writing is that I was
wondering if anyone else has ever run into this.. Last night when the
kids would knock on the door Shilo would go balistic.. (sp) He had
such a scared look on his face.. We tryed to show him that it was only
kids dressed up but he wanted no part of it.. He decided that he was
better off upstairs where he knew that could go...

    Curious minds like to know!!

    Happy Halloween Everyone!!!! ^ ^

My two are like that all the time, because they are so used to
a quiet house and not many visitors.

You should see them when the phone rings!!

    of my 4.........
one kept wandering toward the door to see what was up so I had
to put her in my son's room (all our cats are indoor only) - but then
again, she's 99.9% deaf, so the doorbell and kids' loud voices didn't
    really bother her........

one laid down low behind my recliner where he could still see what
we were doing at the door but where noone could really see him......

the last two basically just *disappeared* until it was all over - they
DON'T like the doorbell so after it went off twice, they were in hiding !

I had the same problem with my two. Miss Sarah Vaughan, who is a
scaredy cat by nature, hid behind the sofa in the basement in the
family room, and didn't come out until about 10pm, after about 1 1/2
    hours of no bell/knocking.

Count Basie, who is as bold as brass, ran upstairs and hid, I guess.
Last year, when he was only about 4 months old at this time, he showed
off a lot for the kids. I don't have a regular doorbell, either a
brass knocker or one of those electronic jobs that plays "westminster
chimes"; I didn't have this last year, so maybe the tune drove him
    nuts.

I had a small problem a couple of months ago; for some reason my
electric garage door opener decided to work on its own, and the
electronic chimes decided to play ALL the various selections (12 in
all, from ding-dong, to the "12 Days of Christmas") in the middle of the
night. The cats and their mom ALL freaked on that one. Happened a
couple of nights in a row, at maybe 2 or 3 am, until I ripped the
    chimes out of
the socket and reset the code. Maybe my kids were scared then and
    still haven't gotten over it.
