I looked in the "Products for Kitties" note and nothing.
I am looking for a good cat harness. Andie is a robust 12
pounds and declawed. She loves to go outside with Mom and
I love to take her outside for walks with me, but I'm so
afraid of her getting out of the harness I have for her (she
did once and scared the daylights outta me!).
Any suggestions in the Leominster area, where I can buy a
sturdy, leather, (comfortable) cat harness or does anyone
have a good one they'd like to sell?
Thank you!
Judie

Judie,
I was recently in the Farmers Exchange (rt.13) in Townsend and
they had a nylon figure 8 cat harness with leash for only $3.99. I'm
not sure how it works but it looked real neat. In case you can't
find it, it was hanging on the wall next to the cat food and next
to the side door. Good luck Sue

I second the figure eight harness. I have only had one cat escape one.
The late Pumpkin Persnickity Painter would jump up in the air
(turning several figure eights herself) and land neatly next to
the jumbled harness. Simple physics and material science says
it is not possible, but cats usually study the advanced courses in
those areas and perhaps know more than simple M'an does.
(admittedly an obscure reference to a Tad Williams book, Tailchasers
Song, good reading for cats though)
The figure eight harness works by looping around the neck and under the
front legs and back to the neck in a figure eight. if the cat trys to
enlarge the neck opening, it tightens in back of the legs, and vice
versa. Works fine on almost all cats :-) Works better than a collar
all the time though.
Lastly, I have been an infrequent contributer, long time lurker,
but my contract is up Friday (15-Jul), so I'll say so long for now!
I am still looking for a So. NH area calico ddoouubblleeppaawweedd
kitten :-))
Have fun,
John

Figure-eight good, collar bad. Figure-eight safe, collar may drown kitty
if it is in trouble. (bottleneck)
Nylon might work good, leather too, must be strong, solid, very fine
and cuddly and wide enough not to cut cat.
Mine is so.
Smokey goes on it.

I have never been able to get one to work for my kitties.
Perhaps because they are so svelt and adept at working themselves
into pretzles if they wish. They always get out of one. I just
don't take them out at all except in a carrier.

I do not recommend the figure-eight collar. I've had two
cats that easily escaped this collar. The collar I use
for my cats I bought in the pet center where I purchase their
food. It is near the other cat collars. This one has a
buckle for their neck and stomach and they are usually made
out of nylon although I have one made out of leather too.
They are about $6.00, but are much better. My cats go out
on the deck (under supervision) in the summer and don't even
try to escape the collar/harness. They love it!
You may need to check a couple pet centers. Some only carry
the figure-eight collars. Good luck!
