742.1 | Poor kitty! | JUPITR::KAGNO | | Tue Apr 12 1994 11:54 | 21 |
| Louisa,
Somebody must have dumped the cat there, and it is scared, and most
likely very hungry. Best bet would be to rent a Hav-a-Hart trap and
set it in the location where the cat is. The only drawback is that
someone would have to be on hand to watch the trap because if the cat
went inside and no one was around it will injure itself trying to get
out.
Posse's usually scare the kitty even more. Imagine a whole bunch of
people a lot bigger than you are running after you and what you would
do in such a situation (run twice as fast to get away!!). Plus, if the
cat got scared and tried to run across the highway it could easily get
killed.
It's a tough situation I know, and I admire your tenacity in wanting to
help. Try the trap, because if the cat is hungry enough, it will go
right inside.

Louisa,
I totally agree with Roberta, rent or borrow a havahart trap, because that
cat is not going to let anyone near it. Poor thing, it must be starving.
I would imagine it will be easy to trap if there's no food where it is!
Best of luck, and keep us posted!

| Louisa,
Taylor Rental rents them if you can't find anyone to borrow from. The
only drawback is if the cat trips the lever before it is fully in the
trap, it can get out. Be sure to put the food all the way in the back
of the trap to ensure the cat makes it all the way inside.
I think the rental cost is like $6/day - very affordable.
Good luck! I know the feeling of wanting to catch a kitty very badly
(Read JJ's story; I hope yours has a happy ending too!)

Louisa,
Good luck in catching the kitty. There have been many
stories in here about cats being left/dumped/stranded
on that median. Poor things.... =(
BTW - what happened on your BONJVI nodename? Can I
have it? =)

| Louisa....please be very very careful...and the less people you
have with you the better chance you'll have to capture the cat.
My biggest fear is if you start to chase him...he'll run right
out in the road and get hit by a car.
I have heard stories about colonies of kitties living in the
meridian strip of 495...so he might not be alone. Good luck...
and bless your heart for trying!

| May I suggest early on a Sunday morning, it should be quiet then.
Also, remember to wear gloves, at least the thin rubber disposable
sort--especially if the cat looks as if it's been fighting. We
are in the middle of a rabies epidemic.
You might try just setting the trap with something smelly like Tuna
and sitting back and waiting for the cat to come. It may seem like
a slow way of doing it, but from one who has tried to catch cats the
other way (rounding them up), it turns out to be faster in the end.
The very best of luch.

If you cannot catch the cat, put out food for it on any case! And
water! Poor thing...

| I have a trap that would be appropriate if you would like to borrow it.
I may even have a can of tuna to donate. Hope I can help.

I have not seen the cat in a few days. I'm not sure if he's
still there. The good news is that is no dead cats on the side
of the hwy. Mark, thankyou for the offer, I will contact you
when I spot him again.
