Jimmy was ill last night. He'd eaten something to disagree with him (he has a weak stomach) and was sick. For a couple of hours after that he was the picture of suffering. I was very concerned and put him by the radiator. I fussed over him and petted him, whilst he lapped up the attention. He lay there, limp and heavy-eyed, with a pained look on his little furry face. In fact he looked as green as it is possible for a ginger cat to look. That is, until Huw opened the fridge door in the kitchen. I have never seen such a recovery in my life. Jimmy's eyes flew open wide, his head lifted, then he raced into the kitchen and jumped straight into the fridge, obviously after the ham that I keep in there for special treats. I'll never learn!

I have been caught like that before as well. I am glad that your green cat turned back to his rightful color, even if he was making the most of the situation, at your expense. That reminds me of my sister's cat Peter. It was Christmas morning. I went into the sitting room to check the Christmas tree and Pete was lying on the floor, his eyes fixed and glazed. He wasn't a young cat and I thought that this was it not only had we lost a beloved cat, but he had died on Christmas. I kneeled beside him and gently touched him, his flesh felt hard, stiff and unresponsive. I shed a few tears and went to get a towel to cover him with. As I lovingly tucked the towel around him, the material jerked in a spasm and Pete hiccoughed. It was then that I saw behind the tree, three packages of catnip mice torn up and scattered. He was dead all right, dead drunk! (I told my sister it wasn't a good idea to put them catnip mice under the tree.)

I just read the previous 2 notes to Bob and he roared with laughter. I didn't know that cats could get that smashed on catnip. Steffi

They do! I've seen Jim staggering around in circles, unco-ordinated, unable to focus, before he fell into a glazy-eyed heap in the floor. My mother had a plastic bag of catnip to make toys with, you see, and he stuck his head into the bag like a little glue-sniffer, A few deep breaths and he was floating. I've been careful with it ever since. |
