What I would do at this point would be to call the breeder you got
Lady Di from, and let her/him know what's going on with you rlittle
girl. Maybe the breeder can shed some light on what's happening. It
could be that something broke out right after you took Lady Di home,
and the breeder might think you got her out in time. You never know.
I think it's worth a try. It could help the vet out too if the breder
knows what's happening.
Since it doesn't sound like having the breeder take her back is an
option, I'll just send kitty prayers and paw pats to Lady Di, and to
you. Please let us know what the vet says.

It is not unusual for a new kitten to break with a virus upon entering
a new home. Usually what happens is that they are harboring the
illness from their previous environment (breeder, shelter, etc.) and
the stress of moving brings it out. Your best bet is to contact the
breeder to see if any of her current cats or kittens have been ill
recently. If she is reputable, she should be up front.
The coughing worries me. It is very unusual for cats to cough when
they are sick (at least in my experience). If you can afford it, and
if the vet feels it is necessary, I would also have them do a chest
xray just to be safe.
It is important to keep the breeder informed of everything you are
experiencing in case she should have to defray some of the cost. Most
contracts state at least a 48 hour health guarantee. I do hope you
signed a contract upon purchase to cover yourself.
Here's hoping everything is back to normal soon!

| Oh, I forgot to say that the vet did call Lady Di's breeder last Friday
to see if any of the other kittens had exhibited any symptoms and the
breeder said no. Update since 3:00pm today: vet said Diana's temp. is
back to normal again; the swelling under her nose and on upper lip is
better - said it looked like fever sores - but yesterday she broke out
with small ulcers on her tongue, also indicative of high fever. Her
CBC showed no signs of virus. She is eating and drinking again, in
spite of the ulcers on the tongue, so the vet feels that she is
improving. She said now when she puts her back in her cage, she cries
(instead of sleeping all the time) so that's a good sign that she's
better and wants some loving.....she'll keep her one more day to be
sure nothing else develops. Rick is calling the breeder tonight to see
if she will foot the bill for the vet, since it appears that Lady Di
was ill when he brought her home. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

| I'm glad to see Lady Di appears to be on the road to recovery. My
personal feeling is if you are dealing with a "good" breeder she
should offer to defray some of the costs. I know most shelters
would offer if the cat/kitten got sick immediately...so I would
expect the same thing (if not more) from a breeder.
It must hurt to eat...with ulcers on your tongue!! Keep us posted
and I bet you can't wait to take her back home!!

| Hi,
Welcome Lady Di and I hope that you feel much better. I was just
reading your note and you had mentioned that you took Lady Di to the
Londonderry Animal Hospital. I live in Londonderry (since May of this
year) and didn't see it in the phone book. I take Harley to Crossroads
Animal Hospital on 102 (Crossroads Mall) Harley's docotr (Dr. Appleyard)
is so sweet and she's very gentle with Harley and he really likes her.

Sounds like Lady Di got the same thing my Blackie has (see note 665.).
I hope she is feeling better and gets to come home soon. I will be
finding out more about Blackie this afternoon. It seems that
kittens/cats get virus' upon entering a new environment or even from
someone who has a cold or is just getting over one. And who knows she
may have been coming down with it at the Breeders so if your breeder is
a good person they should ofer to either pay the whole bill or at least
half.
Lady Di is in my prayers.

| Lady Di came home last evening. She seems to be much better, purring
like a motorboat and chasing her tail. She still has coughing spells,
but they aren't lasting as long any more - the vet did send her home
with an antibiotic to give her twice a day for 7 days. She went
immediately to her litter box after 5 minutes of play, and has done so
regularly since. She's eating and drinking. Still has some runny
stuff coming out of her nose, but in all appearances is a normal
kitten. I'll be watching her closely for the next few days, but I am
feeling much happier now!
Thank you all for your thoughts, wishes, advice! Oh, by the way, the
breeder very graciously offered to pay the entire vet's bill and called
me last night to see how Lady Di is doing. So, a happy ending for us!

Thanks for your note. I read about Blackie, and it sounds similar.
Lady Di had lots of green stuff coming out of her nose and then it
scabbed up. Her cough is what has me worried. Did Blackie cough at
all? I believe he really couldn't smell the cat food, because neither
could Di -- then, when she tried to eat it, you could just hear her
poor little stuffy nose. She sounded like she was gasping while she
was eating. I treated her to fancy feast turkey last night (she ate
every bite), but this morning gave her some 9 Lives tuna and egg and
she went right for it, too! Hang in there with Blackie, and keep us
posted!

| I'm going to reply here, because I have a feeling the "she's home!"
note will be moved, so don't be TOO confused when they look out of
order! ;-)
I'm so glad Lady Di is home and seems to be well on the road to good
health! I'm also glad the breeder came through!
I know you'll keep a close eye on her, but please give her hugs and paw
pats from the Colaianni Clan!

I just opened the notes file to take a qick peek. What wonderful
news...
When you mentioned that Lady Di was chasing her tail I could just
picture it... I'm so glad for the both of you that she is feeling so
much better.
