658.0. "SCRUFFY...I'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU." by FRAGLE::WESTON () Fri Nov 19 1993 07:01

    			~~~~~~~~ MY DEAR SCRUFFY ~~~~~~~
    Hello Feliners -- many of you who read this note will not know me, but
    maybe some will remember me.
    (*  I am adding this note for my wife:  Carol Weston)
    I am Carol Weston, a previous "old feliner".  I was a DECy from '76 -
    87' and have temp from '88 - '91.  I am back temping at MRO1 and my
    husband works in NRO and the MILL.
    My notes use to be of my cat Scruffy and the Dudley Road gang.  In the
    last 7 years I have gone through about 53 cats.
    *** Scruffy came to us this coming Jan., two days after we put out dog
    to sleep, and since then we had to deal with many strays.  Our
    neighborhood, such as many, was inendated with strays which I was not
    aware of, till our dog was gone.  We have placed many with the Pat
    Broady Shelter - the Lancaster Humane Society - and personal placement.
    Some of the 53 -- never came back again and we have buried in our
    little Pet Cemetary 8 strays with our dog - one of our cats and my
    mom's cat.
    I have a list at home of all the names of these fur balls, that have
    touched our life.  But most of all Scruffy...
    We just had to put her down two days ago, Wed.  I write this with alot
    of heart ache and we all know of this.  She was our baby for 7 years,
    she was approximately 8 years old.  The Lancaster Hospital could not
    define exactly what she had.  She had alot blood tests.  She was and
    has been Feline Lukemia Positive for about 5 years.  Her antibody test
    (?) name I can't remember was elevated and could of affected her brain
    in this way with the Lukemia.  The first time happen a month ago.  She
    started walking around in circles.  Kept her at the vets for tests for
    a few days and she straighted out.  She was an indoor/outdoor kitty.
    Loved being outside.  We are surrounded by woods.  Monday nite it came
    back again.  The cirlces were so tight this time, her head was
    practically on her shoulders.  She pivited on her hine legs, got very
    tired and was certainly very angry and frustrated.  She started not to
    eat Tuesday and seem very spacey.  She was about the same Wed. and
    brought her back to the vets.  We had to decided on her quality of life
    and the Dr. couldn't see her getting any better.  She of course
    straighened out at the vets, but then in a few minutes was going around
    in circles.  He said it could be little strokes and/or her heart
    throwing blood clots to her brain.
    I fixed her up and we'll burry her Sat.  I feel very lost without her.
    I have no children and she was the one there from the start.  She
    followed me everywhere, but also had her independent side too.
    I wanted to enter this, for over the years I mentioned many other
    kitties she had to live with off and on.  In the past Sandy Merritte,
    Jan Brown, Nancy D.C., and many more (unfortunately I can't
    remember)-help me with $$$ suppport - food and comfort.  I want to
    recognize Scruffy and honor her and thank her so much for improving my
    life and saving alot of others.
    I will continue to support shelters when I can (work is slow).
    I also want to honor the Memory of Zeebee, whom we cared for, for about
    1 year.  We had to put her down about 2 months ago.  She was a special
    bundle of joy who was abandon -- a house cat that her owners past away
    over the years on and no one wanted.  She was about 10 years old and
    developed a liver problem.
    Any relpys can be sent to my husband's NODED or he'll print from  here.
    I might be able to read them myself.
    I thank you for listening to me, I've needed to do this once again.  I
    am planning on adding to the FELINERS News Paper sometime soon.  A
    dedication to "Scruffy"
    I have Dot at home or Male cat of 3 years -- black with one white Dot
    on his chest.  And I'm taking care of a 7/8 month old male name Smucky.
    He need's his shots and to be netured but money has run low again.
    Hopefully soon.
    				Take care and God Bless all of our Past
    					Present and Furture Bundles of
    With so many wonderful cats moving to kitty-heaven lately it must be a
    wonderful place to be, except for all of us left back here with big holes
    in our hearts...
    Has anyone else seen "The Three Lives of Thomasina"?  It has a marvelous
    depiction of cat-heaven, though Thomasina only visits briefly.
    Those of us with our own recent losses grieve with you.
    My God - 53 cats in 7 years you must be a Saint!  I am impressed by
    your loyalty and commmitment to the love and caring of animals.
    Please accept my condolences on the loss of your two ... I am
    always at a loss of words when I read the stories of all the
    relationships between man/beast and especially when one dies.
    I am so very sorry ...
    :( ......  We burried Scruffy Saturday morning.  We have a large back
    yard and it is edged by woods.  In this woods in a small cemetary I can
    see from my Kitchen window.  I have a small white wire fence around it.
    In there is our Dog, my mom's cat, our Zeebee and nine strays.  Now
    Scruffy sleeps with them.  We have alot of ledge and rock, it's usually
    very hard to dig.  This grave was very easy, alot of rocks but much
    easier.
    We burried her right below Smokey, our dog -- whom she followed into
    our life.
    It was so hard to say good-bye...........I am still trying to tell
    myself she is happy and I truely know this is so.  She was, in my mind,
    meant to live alot longer and be our main cat.  Everywhere I go at
    home, I look for her.  She had a special meow.  She cooed, like rolling
    her "r"s, sort of.  I hear it.  It would be so comforting for her to
    let me know, things are O.K.  I think she did, as I planted a few bulbs
    for Springtime in the cemetary.
    Thank you all for your dear words.
    Steve & Carol,
    So sorry to hear about Scruffy.  I met you a few years ago when I
    adopted one of your strays -- at the time I was amazed by the
    compassion you two showed all the furry creatures that found their
    way to your door.  They obviously know you have nothing but good
    in your hearts; kitties are the most excellent judges of personality
    I've ever found.
    Adrianne,
    So nice to hear from you.  Which stray did you adopt?  I'm trying to
    remember.  Was it Little Scruffs?  I hope this kitty has been good to
    you.
    Thank you for your thoughts
    Carol
