| Holly,
How long has Mondo been doing this? I'm sure that Dr. M. knows what
she is talking about, but if it is still happening I'd give her another
call and let her know just how long it has been going on...
My prayers are with you and Mondo..

My guess is Mondo could possibly be coming down with a cold...or
it might be possible he is allergic to the food. My little Poco
throws up anytime I feed her some fish varieties!!
Or could he have ate something (plant) that didn't agree with him
and upset his little stomach???
Just some thoughts...

I have found that my little fur face sometimes eats to fast
and then goes outside, and in the driveway I find a little
present. So I just cut back on the portions.

I know that IAMS is supposed to be the top food, but
no one could convince my Tiggr of that. He used to get
sick everytime I tried it - he also couldn't tolerate
anything with liver in it.
Try small amounts of another brand .....?
Good luck!

| Well, he didn't get into a plant, that's for sure. I don't have any in
my house. I DID however find a pair of my nylons with a hole chewed in
them about a week ago. Could some of it still be in his system? He
seems to be using the litterbox ok, though.

629.6 | Symptoms sound exactly like Pudge's | CTHQ::LYNCH | | Tue Oct 05 1993 13:09 | 10 |
| I have a cat that loves to eat plastic bags, we found out after he had
chewed a produce bag left on the counter overnight. He displayed the
same symptoms you describe. A visit to the vets for an xray and an
upper GI series (sort of) revealed the piece of the bag he ingested was
blocking the newly eaten but barely digested food from getting thru.
They gave me some pills that had him looped out, I hated to give them
to him, he seemed so unsteady, I only gave it to him at night and kept
him with me. He eventually passed it I guess, but we are extremely
careful with all plastic bags. Hope you can find the problem without
too much expense!

629.7 | See what the vet thinks.... | POWDML::KAREN | | Wed Oct 06 1993 10:14 | 21 |
| Hi Holly!
I'm sorry Mondo is having a problem...
If he eats too fast it could definately cause that problem.
Other scenarios are:
parasites/protozoa
panty hose, but if passing stool okay, may not be the prob.
an allergy to something in the food.
Just as an aside. Iams has switched the type of digest used in the
food. Instead of it being incorporated it is now sprayed on the out
side. There is slight difference in the digest because of the method
used (I am told). I have switched to SD and am trying that. So far
I have not had problems with it. Another thing I would like to mention
as told to me by my tech.
In most foods they claim their precentages, but the exact measurement
of certain things ie. chicken, corn, rice, soy, can vary from
week to week in the processing. SD maintains a strict recipe that is
not changed ever. Therefore, you will get a consistent product. I
have not questioned Iams personally about this but intend to.

When you mentioned the "Iams has switched the digest..." what do you
mean by that?
thanks!

629.10 | "animal tissue" sounds like surprise pkg.!! | POWDML::KAREN | | Thu Oct 07 1993 10:52 | 17 |
| re.8
Digest is partly flavor enhancer/protein. I have never really asked
myself what it was. Not sure I want to know! I have to believe that
it is a "mixture" of stuff that is collected from various animal
parts unknown then "digested" and added to the food.
Well, I just called Iams directly. This is what I was told:
Digest is "animal tissue" in accordance iwht AAFCO. The old Iams
used a powder digest on the outside. The new Iams uses a liquid digest
on the outside now, which is stronger. It appears that I am not the
only one who has noticed a difference. The 800 number for
Iams is: 800-525-4267, Hills Science Diet is 800-445-5777 if any of
you want to speak to them directly.
I let them know that the odor has changed significantly in the litter
boxes and that I preferred the old formula. I didn't tell them yet
that I have changed brands.

However, he has NASTY STINKY POOPS!! I checked the litterbox yesterday
just after he had gone poop and it was runny. )-: Thank goodness he's
got an appointment tomorrow.

| Holly, just wanted to know how Mondo did with his check-up Friday
night with Dr. Butler? He is SO beautiful ... what a love. His
markings are so unique and definitely add to his personality.
Hope all is well with you and the REST of the clan!

| Whoops! Forgot to put a note in here!
Dr. Butler said that it sounded like it was just a type of bug. He
hasn't vomited in over a week now and is doing much better. His stools
have hardened up as well, so it seems as if he's recovered from this
bug.
Thanks everyone for their input!! And thanks for the compliment,
Marilyn. He really is a love! And has an unbelievable personality!

629.14 | SICK KITTIES | WMOIS::FLECK_S | | Tue Aug 02 1994 07:16 | 10 |

I wasn't sure where to enter this note so bear with me. My two
cats (2 yrs. old) have all of a sudden started throwing up, for what
appears to be no reason. They don't act sick, still playful but I
think it has something to do with their food. I usually feed them
canned 9lives and they used to go crazy for it, now they sniff and
walk away. They also get dry KozyKitten at night. I know they're not
kittens any more but they seemed to like it. I don't want to describe
the vomit here, but I can off line. Could the cat food be BAD? Is it
the heat? Please any advice. Sue Fleck WMOIS::FLECK_S

I'm sorry to say it's not hairballs, but whatever it is, there
is an awful lot of it, and seeing they don't seem to be eating too
much food, where is it coming from? At least if it was hairballs,
there are cures that don't require vet attention. They(both) seem
to keep doing it in exactly the same spot. Unfortunatly the porch
windowsill! Sue & Crunch &

629.17 | | USCTR1::WOOLNER | Your dinner is in the supermarket | Tue Aug 02 1994 11:25 | 6 |
| Do they go outside? It occurs to me that they could have gotten into
something toxic, whether a manmade pesticide, a natural toxin (some
plant that they shouldn't be chewing on) or some kitty food (or
garbage!) left outside long enough to spoil.

629.18 | | VLNVAX::PGLADDING | Noters do it with a 8-) | Fri Aug 05 1994 09:20 | 11 |
| Or they could have worms. If they go outside, they can get worms
from eating birds/small animals...
I'd have your vet check it out to be sure. Frequent vomiting
can cause dehydration, which is especially dangerous in this
hot and humid weather. Check their skin by pinching it between
your fingers - if it doesn't bounce back to its original condition,
then they could be getting dehydrated.
Good luck,
Pam
