615.0. "RIP BunBun" by ELWOOD::FEASE (Andrea Midtmoen Fease) Thu Sep 23 1993 05:42

BunBun was a rabbit, not a cat, but she loved, and lived with, our
    cats ...

At 2:30 this morning, our BunBun passed away. She urinated what
we thought was blood one day last week, then cleared up, but started
urinating blood yesterday afternoon (we didn't find out it was all
blood until the urinalysis at 5:30 last night), and then stopped
urinating completely, even though she was drinking. I guess her
kidneys just shut down, as well as the rest of her body.

We only had her for 9 months; got her in January from a grain
store with a massive fur blockage that our vet didn't think she would
survive, but with love and medication, we pulled her through.

She was the only bunny to hop on chairs, and on Tuesday night she
hopped into the recliner onto my husband's lap, something she loved to
    do 8-) .

We don't know how old she was, and we're going to ask her vet (who
wasn't in yesterday) if she has an idea what went wrong, so perhaps we
can prevent it in our other bunnies. But she did go peacefully, with
no pain, and I think she knew she was loved.

We'll be burying her under our pines this afternoon ...

P.S. Yonee, could you please add BunBun, under Rabbits, to the SLM?

    Andrea,

I'm so sorry to hear about BunBun. :-( I'm sure she knew she was
loved. She's up in Critter Heaven now with my guy Buns to watch out for
her, and show her where the sweetest clover is.

She has been added to the SLM list.

    Love,

    Yonee

         Thank you, everybody.

We buried BunBun closer to the house, so that she can oversee us
as we go each day to feed the chickens. We do miss her; her big
presence and her love of hopping on the recliner with one of our cats,
Loki, was so entertaining. She had no fear.

We didn't have a necropsy done, as we didn't want her body
violated. However, the vet feels that she probably had either an
ovarian or cervical tumor, and that the tumor ruptured, causing the
bleeding. We found later that the shavings, where we thought she had
urinated, were full of blood :-( . I feel a little guilty about that,
but the vet doesn't feel that we could have saved BunBun at that point
anyway. At least this way, she died at home, with her people and kitty
buddies, and it was very, very peaceful.

         Thank you again.
