601.0. "Black Beauty is at Peace now" by AIMHI::OFFEN () Fri Sep 10 1993 17:58

Well, we had to finally make the decision to put Black Beauty down.
He had so many problems and colder weather is coming and I really knew
it would bother his arthritus and nerve damage. It was a hard decision
to make but both my daughter and I agreed it was time.

The hardest part was when I was actually in the vet's office in a room
alone with Beauty to say our good-byes and he was sitting there just
looking at me and purring. When I finally brought him into the
*special* room, he just kept purring and looking at me. I just cried
and kept telling him how much I loved him and that he would have no
more pain..... He went to sleep in my arms and I held for a few more
    minutes and then left.

I have to admit, it isn't any easier going through it the second time.

Beauty is at peace now and probably having a ball giving Keisha a hard
time. I miss my protector but I know it was the right thing to do....

Patches, his close playmate, also went through a time of grieving. She
kept going out and coming in, hoping she could find him. She's ok now
but there were a few days I was really worried about her. She wouldn't
even come in at night. I had to go outside and get her.

Bye, Beauty. Lynda and Patches and I miss you. Take care of Grey and
    Keisha for us.

    Sandi,

I'm so sorry about Black Beauty. You're wonderful for being strong
enough to let him go when it was time. Take care of yourself.

Black Beauty is being added to the Silver Lining Memorial, if that is
    all right with you.

    Love,

     Yonee

Please accept my condolences. His love for you was evident, as was yours
for him at the end. Loving someone enough to let them go ... is the
most unconditional love of all - how I admire your strength and
    courage.

    Regards,

    Marilyn

My deepest condolences to you as well. Black Beauty is now
playing with our other "kids", free from pain.

It never gets easy and I keep praying I have the courage and
strength to deal with this whenever the time comes!! Black Beauty
is no longer suffering and can watch over you from above.

RE: SILVER LINING Yes, I would love to have Black Beauty added to this
    wonderful memorial.

Re all the others:: Thank you for all the support. Sitting in the
Vet's office I almost changed my mind but then I kept remembering
watching Beauty in pain every time we petted him in certain areas and
when we tried to pick him up. He also had no teeth and couldn't eat
    his food properly.

Being the reigning king of the neighborhood for many years, Beauty
couldn't understand why the local male cats started asserting
themselves around him. That did a job on him mentally. I would hear
them *discussing* things and would go out to see what was happening and
to make sure Patches was al-right. Beauty was always so glad to see me
and I would help entice the other cat/cats away... A few times I didn't
get there in time and Beauty wasn't winning the battle... That was so
    hard for him.

I know I did the right thing, but boy I really do miss my protector who
greeted me each day when I drove into the driveway.

    Thanks again,

    Sandi

    Sandi,
This is one of the first notes I have read for my first time logging in
in a while. I am very sorry... Black Beauty was a name well known to
me and I am sorry to hear that he has gone.

Are you kidding.... Beauty already has Beauty under his wings (paw)
and telling him all sorts of wonderful stories. I still have the
picture of Duke at my desk and think of him often. Thunder is still
with me and so far no recurring tumors... I'm just sorry that Duke
    isn't here with her.

    Sandi

Ps. Give me your outside DEC address and I'll send you a copy of the
story I wrote about Thunder and *The Silent Purr*...
