589.0. "Kitty has a sore" by FSOA::DHALL (Just another day in the jungle) Fri Aug 20 1993 08:56

    Hello,

I am a mostly read only noter, but I have a question
that I could not find answered in this file. If
I missed it, please let me know.

My two-year old cat, Tallin, seems in fine health. She
recently had a virus, but has recovered. Last night
my husband and I noticed a small sore underneath one
of her ears. It was not bleeding, but the skin was
broken. It did not seem to hurt her because she did
not flinch when I touched that part of her head.

I called the vet last night and his assistant told
me to watch it a couple of days and if it is not improved
to bring her in. I am probably overreacting, but I
am concerned because she was sick recently.

    	Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Donna

    Donna.

Is it possible that Tallin could have gotten into a small fight
    with another cat?

If not...I would suspect ear problems such as wax or mites. My poor
Van Gogh had a sore on the back of his ears which we were treating
with Panalog. The sore never went away and he continued to scratch
it. Welllll....come to find out his ears were so filthy that he
constantly was scratching the back of his ear because it must have
been itchy. Once we took care of his ear dirt...he stopped
scratching and the sore cleared up in no time!!

    Hi,

There are a few other cats in the neighborhood and we do
have a big bully cat. Unfortunately, Tallin is only
    	7 pounds.

I did check her ears for mites the other day and they
were clean. But I did not think about wax.

We thought about Tallin getting into a fight. But she
did not seem to have any other scratches or bruises.
They are as bad as kids, and we don't have any yet.

    Thanks,
    Donna
