| Hi all,
Since I have yet to hear back from IFAW about them helping the flood
victims, and since John McD took the time and effort to research an
association directly related to the flood, if no one objects, I will
send the SLMF this quarter directly to them.
Let me know what you think, either by mail (STUDIO::COLAIANNI) or in
here. If you plan on sending a donation for this quarter, please let me
know, so I can wait a day or two for it. The more money we can send at
one time the better, right? ;-)

When I saw the film of all those pigs trying to stay alive while
crowded on to the roof of one of the farm buildings, I wanted
to get down there to help very badly.....

| I also heard this on the radio this morning, and it sure made it
difficult to drive in the pouring rain with my eyes filled with tears
too! 8-} 8-)
I'm so glad poeple are doing this for the flood victims! Kinda restores
a bit of my faith in human nature. :-)

On the way to work this morning, during the news segment on
WBZ radio, there was a news spot dealing with the pets and
animals that have been displaced because of the flood. What
the Missouri Humane Socity is doing is placing this pets and
animals in foster home. The foster families love it because of
their love for pets and animals they are glad to do their part
in helping during this most difficult time.
The Missouri Humane Socity is providing free food and kitty
litter to the foster families.
I am glad that someone out there cares......

During natural disasters, it's not only the humans who suffer.
Actually, man-made disasters, too, such as war....

| the TODAY show did a spot this morning on still another humane
society who is helping out with the stranded animals. It is good
to see that there are lots of people willing to help. But money and
space is a premium.

576.8 | Hopefully, tomorrow...... | STUDIO::COLAIANNI | I have PMS and a handgun ;-) | Mon Aug 02 1993 09:08 | 9 |
| I'm hoping to get the checks in the mail tomorrow to help out the
critters in the Midwest. I hear the river is supposed to crest in St.
Louis today or tomorrow (with more rain in the forecast) and my gut
feeling is that at least some of the levees will be breached, and they
will need the money ASAP.
Again, FELINERs are the BEST!!!!!!

| I guess I just have to add my feelings to this.
It's all well and good that everytime you put on the news you hear the
blurbs about they "need food, water and cleaning supplies" Well c'mon
guys how about food for people AND PETS, then add water, which really
isn't needed since it's being trucked in by tankers, then the cleaning
supplies and while we're at it, how'bout some litter too!
Would it be worth asking WBZ channel 4 (boston) to add these things to
their list?
OK so I'm a softy too!

576.10 | Me too..... | STUDIO::COLAIANNI | I have PMS and a handgun ;-) | Mon Aug 02 1993 13:39 | 19 |
| Lyn,
I agree, and I must say that at least once on the news I saw pet food
being sent from Massachusetts to the flood area. One clip even showed a
little note on the can, saying something like "Kitties get hungry too".
I loved it! :-)
I'm hoping that part of our donation will be used toward food, as well
as lodging for the pets affected by the flooding. It's so hard being so
far away. I wish I could help them out myself, but his isn't possible
right now.
If I can ever find a truck in my area being filled to go out there,
pet food will be right on the top of my shopping list, along with
litter, and maybe even a cookie or two! ;-) I'm such a softy too.
Love,
Yonee

| I've been 'absent' from reading 'notes' for a week or so, so I'm
catching up...
Re. last few.. When I talked to the people at the St. Louis SPCA,
they told me that the most important thing that they need right now is
CASH!. It seems that almost ALL of the major pet food companies are
getting into the act by donating TONS of food for the animals that are
being rescued, which is why the SPCA's are able to provide free food
with the animals that are being fostered. The need for cash is for
drugs to administer immunizations, antibiotics, purchase bandages,
splints, and other veterinarian medical supplies, rent temporary areas
where emergency shelters can be set up, etc. etc....
While I too thought that the food issue would be important, it give
me a lot of satisfaction in knowing that the people who make and sell
the stuff that we all feed our kids are interested in more than
'profit' when it comes to animal welfare...
But i'm sure that ANY donations will be very gratefully
received...whatever the are...

| Just read in the paper yesterday that one of the shelters helping
the animal flood victims says they have lots of food but they're
going through cat litter like there's no tomorrow and they're
developing a critical need for more litter. I'll try to remember
to check the paper tonight and see where that was if anyone is
interested in knowing.
