552.0. "moving day" by REFDV1::LUST (Hugs - food for the soul) Mon Jun 14 1993 10:05

    Hi,

Well, it looks like it's now official - in about two weeks I will
own my own home in Fitchburg, Mass. I know a number of other
feliners live there also, so I'm hoping for some pointers.

Good vet (cat population currently at six), not *too* expensive?

Good place to get supplies, food, etc, for my babies?

    Things to watch out for?

    Anything else?0

I'm really looking forward to moving, but I *hate* the actual work
involved. I'm going to enjoy watching the cats all explore the new
house - it's big enough for kitties to get thoroughly hidden in.
My only sorrow is that Midnight didn't make it to the house, but she
will be buried in the yard - the vet is keeping her for me, until I'm
    ready.

I will be having a feliner's party there after I'm settled - anybody up
for a barbeque/pot luck evening? Date to be determined later, based
on how fast I get unpacked, and people's availability, but probably
    in early August.

    Linda

ps. For those in the area, it is near Notre Dame high school.

    Linda,

Welcome to the neighboring area - I live (with 12 other "beings" - one
adult, one child, 5 cats and 5 dogs) in Leominster ! If you do have a
get-together, once you're settled, be sure to let me know !!

As far as vets, supplies - for all 10 of our animals, we use Fallon
Animal Clinic on Route 2A in Lunenburg, which would probably be about
10-15 minutes (depending on traffice) from the ND area......Fallon's
gives us a "kennel" rate based on 3 or more dogs/cats to the owner....
four vets in the practice and I've had all of them at one time or another..
not cheap, but not as expensive as I've heard of other areas.....I can
look up specific costs for things if you'd like - just let me know and
    I'll send off-line......

For supplies like food, litter, it depends on what you want and how far
you'll drive....when we're stocking up on Iams Canned and Dry for
everyone, we usually drive into Pet Supply Depot at the intersection of
Route 9/140 - it's a little longer drive, but best deal we've found so
    far....another alternative we're just investigating is a Farmers Co-op
type place (can't remember the exact name right now) on Route 2A/12
heading out of downtown Fitchburg....let me know if you want more details
    when we get them.....

Another good source of info, considering the "brood" she has, would be
    Sandy Merritt !!!!!!

    Good luck with the move,
    Debbi J

I did send a note to Linda off-line welcoming her to Fitchburg!!
I also suggested the Co-op (old UCF but has been renamed to Pet
Supply), they are a little bit higher then the Pet Supply Depot
on Rt 9...but not that much higher!!! They also hold Doggie Dips
once a month during the summer and the volunteers from our shelter
    work it...and get the proceeds!!!

The Pet Supply in Fitchburg now carries Arubacat Trees...which is
dangerous when I bring my husband in there because he always wants
to buy the kids another one!!! They already have a huge 6 tier one..
and Van Gogh has one of his own...but Ernie doesn't feel this is
enough!! They do carry cat beds, cages, brand name food, toys, and
    all types of cat stuff!!!

I'd love to have a get-together in Fitchburg sometime in August!!

    Hi Linda,

Welcome to Fitchburg! I live on Rollstone St., right around the
    corner from you!

I use Central Animal Hospital in Leominster, and especially
like Dr. Eileen Mulcahy. She's a real sweetheart and you can
tell she really loves animals. After all the problems I had
with my Mocha last year, she never gave up and was very
encouraging - and after the first visit, only charged for meds
for all the follow-up visits. Although it is a 15-20 minute
ride, I feel it's worth it. Their prices are not too bad,
compared to some other vets (I think Twin City Animal Hospital
    is a lot more expensive).

Sandy says that you've offered to help out with crafts for the
PB Shelter - that's terrific! I look forward to meeting you!!

Second for Central Animal Hospital, though I prefer Dr. Moss. I live 26
miles from there, but I won't take my babies anyplace else. It has the
seal of approval from the Hon. Colonel Sebastian Moran, DROFFC (and his
    canine sister and brothers).

I also go with Fallon Anamial Clinic, Although this is very new to me,
Tigger was 8 weeks last sunday, my in-laws have used fallon for years
and never had any complaints. I live in gardner and i think it is worth
the ride, and prices are competitive.

ps....I have been getting the IAMS food at gardner agway, but haven't
really had the chance to shop around for better prices.
