| Stud books where kept in CFA in the beginning, say circa 1906 or so.
They were just what they sound like I guess, records of stud cats and
who they had sired, etc. They are not kept anymore. I am sure that
there are stud books at the CFA office in New Jersey. They have a sort
of museum of CFA history there. Also, a woman out here that has been
in the cat fancy forever has some stud books. This woman makes cat
beds and sells them at shows, and she always brings along a few old
yearbooks and stud books that she has available for sale. If you were
interested in buying one, I could get her name and number for you. I
think the stud book that I looked at at her booth from from the early
1920's.

| Are these stud books per breed? I would only be interested in Siamese
or Oriental. It would be (I presume) for an interest only type thing
to go to the way, way back of a pedigree, correct? I have heard that
the CFA museum has gotten some new additions lately. I would love to
see some of the original stuff. They used to use crowns for the cats
I think. (or at least one anyway) I am curious, how or why does this
woman have stud books?

| I was talking to a friend who has been breeding for many years and she
said that the stud books were the first form of registration that CFA
had. This was before the time of computers and such. They would write
everything down in the stud books, so they are for all the breeds.
Next time I see Maureen, I will check the stud books that she has for
sale and see what they are all about.
