| Cheryl,
Kyra does the same thing with my robe. I've got one of those big
fluffy type robes that looks like fake sheepskin (except it's pink and
white). Kyra LOVES my robe and every time it's in a place where she
can do "Happy Feet" (your kitty muffins), she comes running. I've
never seen her groom it before, though. It'd be pretty funny if she
all of the sudden came up with pink hairballs! (-:

| That sheepskin rug has been chemically treated.....I'd be careful
letting the cats chew it.....

| Interesting about the sheepskin....
I knit, and if I'm not carefull, Bumble Bea will find my latest
project and 'suck sweater'. It seems to me that she prefers some
yarns over others. Definitely wool over cotton, and LOPI seems
to engender the most enthusiasm.

I have an alpaca rug that they went nuts over. One of them
used to groom it but since it doesn't reciprocate :) she seems
to have given up. They still like to play with it, and I often
find Katie or Punkin under it.
They also have an artificial sheepskin piece that they fight
over sleeping on.

476.5 | "Shaggy" bedspreads, too .... | JUPITR::JYOUNG | | Tue Jan 12 1993 18:15 | 6 |
| Harry likes to "nurse" on one of my bedspreads which has like a "slub"
yarn (with knots in it, on purpose) -- he finds just the right one,
stretches out full length, and "makes biscuits" while sucking away on
the bedspread.
Then he gets up and walks away from the soggy lump.......

My two tried to "kill" the sheepskin rug the first few times they saw
it, after a while they just played, getting underneath, and wrapping
themselves in it.
After the novelty wore off, they just sleep on it.
Maybe my two are just lazy!!!!!!!!!

| We've been watching Lea rather closely lately. Seems she's learning to
not lick the sheepskin to death. Must be what Sherry said in reply 4,
once the rug doesn't reciprocate she loses interest. One can only
hope! She is on it morning, noon and night (we have two thrown over a
chair). When she's not on the chair Zelda takes control. Chubs isn't
very interested because he's obsessed with watching his new girlfriend
(a humidifier) blow bubbles. :^)
We just happen to have 3 sheepskins. Same as the cat count so they
each can have one. :^) Not sure if the skins are treated with
anything or not -- they came from Ireland many years ago. They are the
real thing, not imitation. How can I tell if they are treated?

476.8 | I have the answer!!! ;-) | STUDIO::COLAIANNI | | Wed Jan 13 1993 07:26 | 12 |
| Cheryl,
Maybe your sheepskins are made from "whole male" sheep, and that's why
the girls are so crazy about them, and chubs is not interested? ;-)
Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously though, I think sheeps wool has
natural lanolin in it, and I know lots of cats that love to lick
lanolin. If the skins were not chemically treated, the lanolin cooiuld
still be in the wool.

476.9 | one of mine likes wool too (little pest!) | CADSYS::HECTOR::RICHARDSON | | Wed Jan 13 1993 09:17 | 7 |
| Nebula likes to lick one of my wool sweaters - she can be a real
nuisance if I am trying to do something while sitting down at home and
I am wearing her favorite sweater. And it's a good thing I don't leave
it where she can get at it when I'm not wearing it... It doesn't seem
to hurt her any.
