| Sharon, in the US, if you ask for a sample of specific cat food at a
supply shop, they will oblige by giving you a small sample-size bag.
Do they not do this in the UK? My husband might be going to Reading
this weekend. Shall I send him over with some of our Iams? :^) Our
cats really don't like the stuff (and I made the mistake of buying a
very large bag!!)

| I think that some/many manufacturers/stores will let you return the
food if your moggies don't like it. You should ask the store where you
usually buy your cat food.

| Don't the bags usually have some kind of satisfaction guarantee?
Obviously, if the cats don't like it, you are not satisfied and should
be able to return it to the manufacturer.

449.4 | IAMS sent me a new bag | CSC32::K_KINNEY | | Wed Dec 02 1992 15:30 | 12 |

I called the IAMS company once to let them know my
cats had suddenly rejected the ADULT IAMS after getting
a taste of the KITTEN food (I had started a new kitten
on it and of course, the gang had to have some too).
To replace the large bag of ADULT IAMS I had just
purchased, they sent to my house a large bag of
Kitten IAMS to replace it. Pretty nice, I thought.

| And Hills has a money back guarrentee if you want to return it for any
reason, INCLUDING cat has just decided that s/he doesn't care for it
any more.
While we are on the subject, Hills just "improved" the taste of their Feline
Maintanence, and Alex hates it (and only Billy is "wild" over it). Has
anyone else had a similar experience?

| Deb...How can you tell if you have the "improved" bag?? Does it
say something on it!! I only wonder because all of a sudden it
seems like my crew is really chowing down on the dry...which is
unusual for them!! Everytime I look the bowl is empty!!

I have a huge bag of the Feline Maintenance Light formula, and
I need to refill the dish every day, so maybe we have the new and
improved version. The funniest thing is that even though there's
a bowl of puppy chow out (IAMS), all the cats and the puppy go
for the Hills first. (Hmmm, ad slogan there....) :^}

449.8 | Only Feline Maintanence has "improved" flavor | EMASS::SKALTSIS | Deb | Thu Dec 03 1992 16:32 | 19 |
| I discovered this quite by accident. The Wednesday before the Boxboro
show, I opened a new bag of Maintenance. Alex, now on Iams, refused to
eat it (she would sniff it, make a face, bury it and give me a *very*
dirty look), and none of the others (except Billy) were real excited
over it although they are eating it. I was at the show that Sunday and
noticed the Hill's booth that had a sign announcing the new improved
flavor, so I asked. I was told that nearly every cat they had tested it
on preferred it. (It stands to reason that THE FIRM has a differing
opinion). She said that Light had not changed, but Maintenance had. She
also said that they had been distributing it for about 2 weeks at that
point.
Since I have to FIRM-proof the bad of food, I dump it into a locking
roughneck bucket and throw out the bag; I can't remember if the bag
mentioned it was improved or not, but if you call the 800 number, and
give them the lot number off the bag, they can tell you.

Wow...all those replies, and so quick.
I only know of one pet shop around the Basingstoke area which sells
IAMS and when I asked them if I could have a small sample to try they
said no (very friendly!) so this is why I just want a handful to try
them on.
Thanks anyway

| It is possible to get smaller packets of Iams than the huge bags. They
sell a container that looks like a large milk carton. Phone Iams in the
UK (the Basingstoke shop can give you their number) and maybe they will
send you a sample. I used to buy Iams for my three, but I've had to cut
it out as Rolf "shows an obvious liking for food" ;-)

| Sharon,
If you are still looking for a sample of Iams give me a call
DTN 7823 3117 (I am in Ayr).
I only use Iams so I could get some off to you tomorrow if you still
want it.

Sandy,
I just opened another bag and noticed in the right hand corner of the
front f the bag there is a small, red square that says "new flavor".

Thanks Deb... I always empty the bag of food into my Iams
Containers...so I don't even have the bag at home to check. But
next time I buy it (which is very often!!) I will look at the fine
print!!
