| Northeast Shelter is what they say they are - a no-kill animal
shelter. I went there when I was looking for a kitty, but ended
up getting Bumble Bea through this file. If my husband wasn't
with me I surely would have emptied out the shelter.
My understanding is that they are the largest no-kill shelter
around. A worthy cause.

| We got our Frieda from them back 5 years ago. Their card was given to
me by someone who was very high on them. my friend told me they were
very good to the animals and very selective of the new owners. When
our oldest cat died at 18 we went there to look for the biggest,
fluffyest maine coon cat look-alike we could find. They had several
that fit the bill but there was this skinny black and white cat of
about a year old who grabbed us through the cage every time we passed.
Needless to say we left not with a big fat Yankee cat but the thin
practical German. We think of her as the practical, no nonsense German
no frills cat. The people at the shelter were very careful in their
questions and I think they let us have her more because she approved of
us than they did. I have passed on their card to other people since so
I would say they are very deserving of any contributions you want to
make.
Only one thing. If you look in the "Strays Needing Homes" note in this
conference you will see that there are feliners out there who are
taking care of cats in their neighborhoods. A donation to them,
especially at Christmas time, might be even more appropriate.

| I got my Ebony from the Northeast Animal Shelter. They are no-kill.
They even give you a certificate for free spading/neutering when you
get a new kitten (usually to a vet that is close to you).

That's *spaying*, unless they're offering to bludgeon the kitties with
garden implements =8-O :-)

I agree with the previous recommendations. Northeast is a
place where the minute you walk in you know these folks really
care. They are very selective with the new owners and it
shows in the level of care given to the placements.
