437.0. "Moving Cat!" by GUCCI::CPARKER (It's getting hard to breathe) Tue Nov 10 1992 06:45

I hope that someone could suggest any help. I have two year old
calico cat, her name is Judy. She is truly the love of my life and she
means the world to me. DEC sometimes has me traveling and I'm planning
on moving. Judy had been use to a carefree life on seven acres of
woods. Now she will be confined to an apartment. Does anyone have any
suffestions on helping her with this transition?

437.1She'll get used to itALPHA::duaneAlpha OSFTue Nov 10 1992 07:2716
I went through the same thing with Basia last year. She is used to
roaming many acres of woods behind my house, but I got transferred
to San Jose for 7 months, and took her with me. Being in a 2nd floor
apartment in a crowded section of town, she became an indoor cat.

After a week or so of whining and staring at the door, she figured it
out, and gave up. She got used to "outdoors" meaning "sitting on the
porch railing with me."

When I got back home, boy was she glad, though!

My advice is just to pay a lot of attention to her, and go out of your
way to make her welcome on your lap, your bed, or anywhere else she
wants to be.

It will probably take one to two weeks for her to adjust. That's
what happened with mine when they became indoors only, but then everything
will be fine. Have (safe) toys and comfy places around.

maybe bring in a log for her so she can continue her scratching on
something other than your furniture. Maybe grow some grass in a flat
that she can sit/sleep/nibble on. A little catnip plant never hurts
    either!
