Can't find the note where we were discussing cats scratching speakers but I was able to locate a source of the speaker fabric yesterday. The shop did not have any currently in stock but I know the price is $25.00 a yard. It seems on the expensive side but I doubt you'd need an entire yard to cover two speakers and when you think of the cost of replacing the speakers, some $25 fabric doesn't seem so bad. The store was The Fabric Place in Woburn, MA. I may check the one out in Framingham soon to see if they have the fabric, which comes in beige and black. (I'll also post the addresses - there's four stores in New England, two in Mass, one in RI and one in CT) For those of you in California or other distant areas, I'm sure we can work something out where one of us offers to buy several yards and ship it across the country. Are there that many bad cats out there that take a liking to scratching speakers? :^)

My cat, Linus, used to love to scratch the speakers and he actually ripped through to the speaker and scratched that. I used to buy fabric to replace the scratched stuff. Recently I bought new speakers because mine were ruined, and along with them I bought speaker stands, which easily could have been made. Because they are off the ground a bit (about maybe 9 inches or so) and are slanted just a bit, neither of my cats ever goes to scratch them anymore which is great!! Here's what they look like: (Speaker rests | against the | back here) |_____ (This is where the speaker sits, but it should be | slanted down just a bit at the back instead of | sitting flat) | | _________ (Base) Di & Li & Lu (who now use the kitchen chairs 8>( instead)

WHen Bumble Bea wants a good scratch she uses her custom built post. But when she wants our attention she uses the speakers (using the sofa gets the wrong kind of attention). At this point the speakers are pretty old so if we can ever get a new pair we pland to leave the old ones where they are as decoys and install the new ones off the floor. Susan

It is doubtful that they will do a quantity discount since this store (supposedly) has discounted prices. The only way to luck out buying this fabric is if there's less than 10 yards on the bolt, it may end up in the 50% off remnant section. If anyone comes across other supplies of this fabric, please post the information. Here's the addresses of The Fabric Place stores that should have the speaker fabric.: 300 Quaker Lane/Route 2, Warwick, RI 401.823.5400 Woburn Mall, Woburn, MA 617.938.8787 Cromwell Commons, Cromwell, CT 203.632.5744 136 Howard St. Framingham, MA 508.872.4888 or 617.237.9675 (they'll need two phone lines since some of the workers do nothing but gab on the phones there and ignore customers. we tried to find out about speaker fabric but i lost patience with this particular store and left) |
