    Hello everyone!!
    
    I need your help and advice!  My sister saw a sign for "free kittens"
    and just had to stop.  Well, there were two kittens left, and neither
    one looked very healthy at all!  The owners explained that there were
    originally four kittens, but two had died for some reason.  She took 
    the both of them, gave the owners a BIG lecture on spaying/neutering
    and neglecting their animals, and drove strait to Tufts!
    (she was in Worcester at the time).  When she got there, one of the
    kittens looked even worse than it had when she picked it up.  They
    rushed the first kitten in to examin it .. it died shortly afterward. 
    
    The other is still holding on, but just barely.  The vet gave it a
    50/50 chance to live.  The reason??  Flea bites and mal-nutrition!!
    This kitten was INFESTED with fleas!!  It's been given a flea bath, and
    it currently in my sister's bathroom in a box with a blanket and a
    heating pad.  
    
    
    We figure that the kitten is about 4-5 weeks old.  
    
    What I'm asking is what else can my sister do??  She's got some KMR,
    but can't get the kitten to drink it on her own.  Not even with a
    kitten bottle.  She's been force-feeding it the KMR and baby food
    watered down with the kmr.  She has him in a warm place.
    
    What else can she do??  I need to find out soon, or the baby won't
    live!

	Holly...is it possible to give the kitty fluids via an IV until he can do it on his own? Not sure if this works with kittens....

	I'll call the vet and find out. I can give fluids via iv (give them to Honey all the time due to a kidney disease). Thanks for the suggestion, Sandy! Holly

	Has your sister tried to give it some Nutrical? It seems to help a little when they are sick. Did you report these people? They should be infested with fleas themselves!! Karen

	Well, I just got a call from my sister. She brought the kitten to Dr. Mulcahey. They gave him a fluid shot. He'll be going in tomorrow to get another one as well. They gave her some nutrical and told her to give it to him every 3 hours. If he doesn't eat it on his own, she's to force feed him. The fleas are gone, the fleabath worked. And yes, these people ARE being reported! You're right, Karen. These people ought to be flea infested!! (from what my sister says, they looked like they were!) Holly

	the unfortunate thing is that this type of person is everywhere. :^( I wish we could do a better job of educating people to neuter their animals. Michele

	Michele, Not only about neutering their animals, but if their cat DOES get pregnant, they should actually take care of the kittens!! Unfortunately, this little baby didn't make it. We were force feeding him 5 cc's of nutrical every 3 hours, feeding him KMR, and I was giving him shots of fluids three times a day. Unfortunately, he developed diahrea (sp?) and I think it was too much for him. He died monday morning. This topped with the next note I write, it's not been a good week. )-: Holly
