One of my co-workers has come to me asking about her sick cat. It seems that it was diagnosed with a malfunction of the thyroid and put on medication. The cat became very ill and hid. She will eat if spoon fed and has come out from behind the couch. She is very wobbly and the owner is concerned for neurological damage. This I believe occurred over the weekend. The meds have been stopped and her blood work came back with everything appearing ok on liver and kidney function. She has asked for a referral and I guess her vet is going to try and speak with someone at Tufts. The cat is 13 by the way. Any response with related info would be appreciated. I tried to tell her if the cat eats it might not be all that bad. She is worried though! Thanks Karen

thanks Jan, I looked up the notes you recommended. They really didn't offer much help. This cat was not doing the things that these other cats did. She also doesn't have a tumor. An update from last nite tho: the vet at Tufts said that the possibility of the at having had a stroke is great due to the fact that the thyroid imbalance can go hand in hand with hypertension(high blood pressure). The owner has an appointment at Angell Memorial this afternoon at four. I really hope all goes well. I did tell the woman that if it doesn't look good, that the best advice I could give her is to take the cat home. If there is no immediate need to put the cat to sleep, she may be able to have a few more prescious days with her before it's time. That is if she isn't suffering. Thanks! karen |
