350.0. "Animal Photography" by VSSCAD::KENRICK (JILL) Fri Aug 07 1992 13:22
On Monday, August 3rd, I was notified that I was chosen
for the (TFSO) lay-off after six years with DEC. I was a
Quality Engineer II.
Prior to joining DEC, I was a freelance photographer and
magazine writer, specializing in articles on pets, veterinary
advances & treatments, and wildlife issues. I was a regular
contributor to "ANIMALS" magazine (published by the MASS SPCA)
and several other pet-related magazines. My animal photographs
have appeared in calendars, magazines, (cover photos also),
humane society brochures, slide shows and 4 books.
Because of the present uncertain high tech & manufacturing job
markets, (and because I'm now married and can afford the uncertainty
of when the next check for a photograph or article will arrive),
I've decided to go back into photographing and writing articles
on pets.
Since I only have access to the Feline and Canine Notesfiles
until the end of this week (August 7, 1992) I wanted to leave
my home address and phone number to Massachusetts pet owners
who are interested in possibly seeing their "babies" in print.
My photographic style is known for its natural settings and
lighting, with close-ups that capture all the expressions, antics
and personalities that animal lovers recognize in their pets. I
don't do "studio-type" or posed shots per se, instead I patiently
photograph the pet in their home and yard, generally spending
about 2 hours to shoot a roll of color slides. Creativity and
sensitivity are what I strive to express in my photographs.
My first goal is to begin to build up a stock of new photo
slides and a list of pet owners (with different cats and dogs -
a variety of breeds, coloring, young & old in the Massachuestts
area.) In the past I have illustrated my own articles as well
as others' articles. I can show my past work to pet owners
so they can assess my style. I need owners who are willing to
let me come to their home and photograph their pets. I will ask
the owners to sign a photo release form that guarantees me the
right to distribute and sell the pictures taken of their pets.
If in the future there is a high demand from pet owners
themselves, wanting photographs of their pets, I'll develop
a photo session fee and price list. But for the time being,
if after photographing your pet, and you want me to come back
to show you the slides, I can return with a projector so you
can view your pets' pictures. If you're interested in buying
prints, then we can discuss a reasonable price.
So, first I need appealing pet subjects to once again
re-establish my work with editors, publishers and calendar
companies. (It's been more than six years). If you think
you'd like to give me a try, write or call me.

| Everyone,
Since today is Jill's last day, I'm write-locking this note. This note
may be a slight stretch on our Feline policy, but since Jill is being
TFSO'd, I figured what the heck!
Jill, best of everything!!

350.2 | A clarification of .0 | DSSDEV::DSSDEV::TAMIR | DECforms Roadie | Fri Aug 07 1992 15:38 | 28 |
| Hi folks,
After discussing this with Jan, the moderators-on-duty are in
agreement. I'd like to clarify this note.....
Jill was TFSOd today. She's interested in renewing her former career
in freelance photography of critters. What Jill is looking for are
some Feliners who would be willing to have there pet photographed, at
no charge to either the owner or Jill so that she can build her
portfolio. I know from personal experience (when Honey was a model
kitten) that most freelancers PAY for this service. You would sign
a release giving ownership of the photographs to Jill and allowing
her to sell the photographs to magazines or other publishers. She
is NOT looking to get into the pet portrait business and is not
soliciting to take your pet's photo for a fee. If you have an interest
in seeing her finished work, which will be on slides not prints, then
you and Jill can discuss that. But it's NOT a service she's looking to
offer.
So, if you think you might be interested in having your cat photgraphed
so that Jill can build her portfolio, then feel free to call her. If
you are not interested, then hit NEXT UNSEEN!!
If the readership has a problem with this note, please let your
friendly moderators know. We're here to serve!
