| Janet,
A friend of ours from Baltimore is flying up this afternoon. I'll ask
her for suggestions cause she's a real cat person! Our Chubs just
thinks she's the best thing since Fancy Feast. Oh, I'll also suggest
that she take another cat in. I mean, it's my duty to, isn't it? :^)
Have you tried calling local shelters listed in the yellow pages to
find out their policy? How about local vets? They may also know of
people looking to adopt cats. That is how we found ours, through our
vet's assistant. Cheryl

YES!! YES!!! YES!!!!
"Animal Rescue"....they're located in Maryland Line, MD on the MD/PA
line, and I can DEFINITELY verify that they are "no-kill". My wife's
sister lives in Ball-a-more, and she just got a dog named "Princess"
from the shelter after her 16 year old "Rocky" died. Princess is a
grade-1 "Sweetie".
I don't have the phone number, but you could probably call
information and get it... The person we talk to is "Grace"....
Address is: P.O. Box 35,
Maryland Line, MD 21105.
This shelter is great.. My wife has visited there, and my Sis-in-Law
has done volunteer work there with both the dogs 'n cats. They even
resued a couple of sheep, a pig and some ducks.. They've recently done
a LOT of building and renovating to add space for their charges, some
of which have handicaps that prevent them from EVER probably being
adopted.... One of the new facilities is the new "Cat House".
We donate what we can to this shelter... (We currently have 11 dogs
and 2.75 cats{"Smokey" only has 3 legs...he's.75, but does NOT realize
he's 'handicapped'...thinks all cats should 'hop' instead of run on 4
legs}, and ALL of our kids are throw-aways and get along with each
other just fine, thank you...biggest dog and smallest cat are "best
friends")

| Unfortunately, our friend's business trip was cancelled (talk about
last minute!) so I wasn't able to get any info out of her. It sounds
like you have a lead in the previous reply though!

| If the inn is full....offer extra money...that might work if the
shelter is in desparate need of funds!

338.6 | thanks for the help! | GRANMA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Wed Jul 29 1992 18:48 | 20 |
| I want to thank everyone for their responses. I am working with the
co-worker on other possible causes... as in - are all the cats having
a problem or just one, can he isolate that one and get a urine sample,
is the problem only in one spot and if so, do something to that
spot....I've been through this routine so know most of questions to
ask.
However, I am forwarding note .3 to the person and will volunteer to
drive the cats to the shelter if it comes to that.
The co-worker sits near me, so he doesn't stand a chance of doing
anything but what's best for the cats!
So, thanks again. Once again, noters to the rescue! If there's any
update, I'll post it.

338.7 | have they tried to change the litter? | DEMING::MILES | | Wed Aug 12 1992 12:13 | 13 |
| I just had to change the litter I was using last week because one of my cats
wasn't using the litter box sometimes. I have bee using a certain type of
litter since I got the cat, and over the past 4 months it has peed on the bed 4
times (3 different beds). Took her to the vet to find out if there was
something wrong. Apparently, there isn't...they told me to try to change
the type of litter I was using.
So far so good....of course, it's only been a week. He also told me to
completely change (not just clean out) the litter box everyday. Aye-ay-aye.
I'm compromising and doing every other day.....I can even leave the doors
open to the bedrooms....(while I cross my fingers each day of course).
