Hi.... I was wondering if anyone has or had this problem with their cats. Lately, I've been finding my cats claws around the house here and there. I've never seen this. And I was wondering if all cats loose their claws and grow them back. These seem to be hollow. Maybe something in her diet or I'm not feeding her right. I feed her twice a day with dry cat food mixed with canned cat food. She's a little overweight too! Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks....Sharon

Cats claws "shed" the outer shell....that's one of the reasons they sharpen their claws on stuff. It peels off, looking like a duplicate claw.

Sharon, not to worry, this is perfectly normal. Cats shed the outer layer of their claws, to make way for new growth. I am constantly finding them around the base of the cat tree after an intensive clawing session! -Roberta

When I took my living room (shag) carpet in to be washed, I found a gizillion little shed claws that had worked their way thru the carpet to the wooden floor underneath. I'm accustomed to finding them around the house, but this was really bizarre. I can't imagine how they worked their way thru the carpet. |
