It is my opinion that it is just a myth that every male cat
will fight another male cat if they are not familiar with each
other. I have many males cats that are not aggresive towards
other cats...but then I have Barkley who is aggresive towards
both female and males. So...this orange kitty could be:
o just a neighborhood cat that comes to visit
o A lost kitty that does not have a home
o A whole kitty who is looking for love
In any of the above cases...if you feed it...it will return!
You could always try placing a ad in your local paper...if you
feel he is a stray or ask around your neighborhood to see if
he does have a home.
Good luck ....Sandy

| Since s/he isn't hungry, my guess is that you have a new, mellow cat
neighbor who drops by for a neighborly visit and to get a few hugs.
Congratulations, you are now a cat aunt/uncle.

| I've got two kitties who visit me regularly, just for the hugs and kisses.
One of them is a black and white "tuxedo" kitty with huge feet and he just
loves to be held and cuddled. The other is a solid black kitty, and he's
as friendly as can be. Both are well fed, beautifully cared for, and the
nicest cats you'd want to meet! They are curious about my 7 inside and
I think hang around for the hugs.
As for checking his/her privates--well, every cat has its dignity!!!

thanks for the replies, i kind of thought the kitty might
just be stopping by to say hello, but i had never really
heard of that before. fine with me, but i can't say
my 2 cats are too pleased with the idea. sylvester says
the cat waltzes into his yard like he owns the place.

| A cat will always rub it's face and/or body on various places. This
means it's leaving it's scent and is marking that particular area.
(this is similar to me leaving chocolate bar wrappers around and
leaving my own mark!) Sounds as though you have an overly friendly
neighborhood visitor and he (she?) likes you.
You know the movie "Field of Dreams" and the saying "if you build it,
he will come"? Well, something similar holds true for cats -- "if you
feed him, he'll return." :^)
I remember when we brought home our two (at the time) nameless cats and
was trying to figure out the sex of a very shy long haired black cat
that I assumed was a male. Took me about two hours to finally really
get a look and found out that he was a she. Like Mar says, cats have
their dignity!

| How do you know it isn't hungry? Did you offer it food and it
turned up it's nose at it?
I wish the cats that "visit" me were just looking for a friendly
pat or other cat company! They are to the point where they even
jump through the barn window to get to the food inside!
I'm going through dry like I have 10 outdoor/barn cats !!!!!!

well true, i haven't really offered the cat food. As i don't
know if the cat has been vacinated or has parasites i really
would prefer it not hanging around with my cats. But, it is
a free country and i just couldn't try to scare the cat away
or anything like that. And yes, I certainly respect the cats
right to privacy and don't blame it for not wanting a stranger
closely examining it.
