292.0. "A happy ending" by BMS1::SULLIVAN_VC () Thu May 21 1992 05:29

A large tabby cat has been near our backyard for the past week.
I could see that he was wearing a collar and tag, but he wouldn't
come close to me until Tuesday night of this week, when I was able
to lure him with some dry cat food. I caught him and read the
name and telephone number on his tag. Thinking he may be lost, my
wife called his owner and found out he had been lost FOURTEEN MONTHS
    ago!

"Bud's" owners came to pick him up right away.

My wife and I were happy to see Bud reunited with his family
    after such a long time.

Thanks for sharing that because it will give some hope to anyone
who has lost a cat! Cam has been lost two years ago this summer...
and I still keep my eyes on the newspapers lost/found ads and always
look at the new kitties coming to the shelter.

What a great ending....the owner must have been in shock and must
    have been so THANKFUL!!

    Ken,

Thanks so much for sharing that story! Also thanks for working hard
enought o earn his trust so you could catch him to read the tag! I'll
bet his owners are still in shock! ;-)

You made my day a whole lot brighter! Thanks again!

292.5Another happy story!STUDIO::COLAIANNIThu May 21 1992 07:5122
    Hi again,

This story reminded me of another one.

It's not really cat related, but it's on the same lines.

I used to live in Marlboro, MA. My littrle house was among several
businesses. Only a couple of houses near us. Anyway, one day this
beautiful German Shepard dog came over to the house. He looked healthy,
and had on a collar and tags, and a red bandana! He was hanging around
all day, and we figured someone must be missing him by now, so we got
his tag number, called the dog officer to get the phone number of the
people who registered the dog. We called the number, and asked the lady
if she had a German Shepard dog. She said yes, but that he was with her
husband at his place of business that day.

Where did he work? Right! Right next door, and in the same driveway as
us! ;-) She thanked us heartily for being concerned enough about him to
make the phone call, in case he really had wandered off. We spent many
more enjoyable days with this rascal after that! ;-)

Wow, is right! Gee I lost an orange calico kitty in Amherst NH the
summer before last...Her name was Lucy. I always assumed she must
have died somewhere. Maybe she just found another home! I hope so.

Bud's home is about three miles from where he was found.
