| I will attempt to answer what I can, then let Jo finish up. :^)
No, kittens do not receive champion or grand status. Cats cannot
compete for titles until they enter the championship or premiership
class, which, I believe, is at 9 months old. (4-8 months is kitten
class competition).
Kittens, do however, obtain points for regional and national awards.
CFA tracks those points in regards to placement in the finals. I
believe the kitten has to final in order to collect these points.
I *think* the system works in a way that the best kitten would take the
count of the whole kitten class in an allbreed ring, minus a point for
themselves, the second best would get 95% of that, the third 90%, and
so on. In a specialty ring, the best kitten would take all the points
of either the shorthair or longhair kittens (in your case with Korats,
shorthair) minus one for themselves, and proceed as above.
Yes, they do compete against kittens of their own breed for color class
ribbons. Last I showed a kitten in CFA, there were no best of breed
ribbons awarded. Jo mentioned some new show rules in the old version
of Feline; perhaps this has changed.
Now, if this reply is 100% incorrect, I hereby allow Jo to delete it
and enter the proper information!! :^)

slew of typos (typical Monday!), did a reply/extract, edited it, then
deleted the old version.

171.4 | showing and typos, etc. :') | MUTTON::BROWN | | Tue Feb 04 1992 13:29 | 35 |
| Roberta is right on all counts. The point of showing a kitten is to
get them used to the things that go on in a showhall, and to try for
regional and national awards. Kittens only get points if they make the
finals. No Best or 2nd Best of breed is awarded, but in your case,
with only one color class, if you get the best of color win, that is as
good as getting best of breed. :')
The resolution to add Best and 2nd Best of breed awards for kittens and
premiers is still pending. The Judges Association is against the plan,
saying that it will take more time to make these decisions, and cost
the clubs more money, and cost CFA more bookkeeping. They are making a
counter proposal that if the resolution is adopted, then CFA should
limit the counts allowed at the shows (225 count show would drop to
200, and 450 count shows would drop to 400 max), and add mandatory
start times of 8:00 a.m. for full count shows. I will fill you in when
I heard more. Right now they are requesting clubs to write the board
with their thoughts.
Oh, one more thing, kittens are shown from the age of 4 months to the
age of 8 months. The day that a kitten turns 8 months it becomes an
adult and shows in the adult class. The age is determined by the
opening date of the show. If you had a kitten entered in a two day
show and the kitten was to turn adult on the second day, it would
compete as a kitten for that entire show and then as an adult the next
weekend.

PS - almost forgot...Roe, when you wish to edit an existing reply, the
easy way to do it is to delete it first, then immediately type
reply/last. A buffer will come up with the entire text of your last
message (the one you deleted), you can then edit the reply and re-enter
it. This won't mess up the count either. :')

| Thanks for the info, Jo. P.A. will be 4 months old on 2/8, the day of
her first show! Her and Crystal (the other kitten my niece bought) will
be competing against each other, and of course, Gracie will be her
typical PMS self, I'm sure.
Also, when does CFA's show year begin and end???
Thanks,
Cheryl

| The show season runs from May 1st to April 30th each year. Any
points earned this season will not carry over to the next season. Your
kittens will be in the same situation as my new ones, half their kitten
career in one season and half in the next. That means they probably
won't be making any regional or national wins for us. :')
