126.1 | Does a REAL GOOD job | EMASS::SKALTSIS | Deb | Mon Jan 06 1992 16:10 | 5 |
| I've been using one for a coupld of years and have had no such
problems. In fact, it is in the same room as my pellet (wood) stove,
and not only are my walls clean, my ceiling is still bright white.

Deb,
Thank you very much for the information. This was my only concern about the
unit, and you've put my mind at ease. I plan to order one as soon as possible
because my poor hubbie is allergic to our two cute little fur-faces.
Thanks again!

126.3 | Table-top? Large area coverage? | MCIS5::CORMIER | | Tue Jan 07 1992 10:38 | 6 |
| How big an area do these things cover? I have a very slight allergy to
my newly acquired cat, and was thinking about one of these. I have a
very large, open floor plan. I've read/heard good things about both
the Alpine Air and Bionaire. Are these table-top models that can be
moved from room to room? Do they run constantly? Much electrical
usage? Curious... Sarah

>> How big an area do these things cover?
I was told by the folks at Alpine Air that the Model 150 is capable of
purifying the air in approximately 1500 square feet.

The Alpine Air system does not have to be moved from room to room, but
the brochure suggests that it be placed within 12 feet of a return air
grill (part of your central air/heating system). I suspect that it
relies on a central air/heating system to circulate the air through out
the entire home.
From the pictures provided in the brochure, I would guess that the unit
is approxmately 12" high, 12" deep and 18" wide. As a result, if you
so choose, it is small enough to be easily moved from room to room
>> Do they run constantly?
Yes, I believe that they recommend that it be left on 24 hours/day.
>> Much electrical usage? Curious...
The 150 operates on 110 volts of electricity using as little power as a 30
watt light bulb.
The retail price for Model 150 is $395.

| If anyone is seriously interested in purchasing an Alpine Air or in
getting more informaiton on one please contact me. I am a dealer
for Alpine Air. I was so pleased with my unit that I decided to
sell them. I also offer a $25 finders fee to anyone who sends
me business.
Please note that the Alpine Air system is an AIR PURIFIER and
not an air filter. There is a big difference.
I don't want this to turn into a commercial so if you want any
more information please contact me.
Thanks.

p.s. other feliners who have Alpine Air purifiers are Cindy Gerry and

| I wanted to note that the Alpine air is only about 12 " square and
is easily transportable from room to room. Altho we don't allow
smoking in our house, the Alpine Air is wonderful if you're having
a party with smokers. you can put it right in the party room.

126.7 | Get the ionizer! | USWRSL::BISHOPWAL_SC | Oh!/\;;/\Belfry Bats!/\;;/\ | Thu Jan 09 1992 12:24 | 15 |

Once upon a time, I had a little ionizer (a portable one) and it kept
the air clean, but it ionized the paint on the walls so the walls
picked up all the pollutants in the air.
When I moved it away from the walls, it wasn't nearly as bad, and when
I used it in a large room, I never noticed any kind of buildup.
If you put an ionizer next to a wall, though, it will attract all the
"garbage" in the air and you will notice a darkening.
I think they're worth having, though...they keep the air so clean!

| RE: .4
I believe that the unit is more like 8x8x12, rather than 12x12x18.
I leave mine on 24 hr/day, 7days a week, and after I got it, I noiced
about $1-$2/month increase in my light bill.
RE: .7
>If you put an ionizer next to a wall, though, it will attract all the

This is NOT TRUE with the Alpine Air Purification system. I have mine
6 inches from the wall (it has been there for 2 two years) and there is
NO DARKENING. This unit is NOT JUST an ionizer, but it is also a ozone
generator and it has filters.
Of course, maybe the fact that it doesn't darken the walls is one of
the reasons that it is so expensive.
Deb (no, I'm not selling them, though I have been asked to several times)

| I notice this kind of darkening behind picture frames. I'm not
sure if it has anything to do with having an ionizer or
not (I don't). Sure would like to know how to clean the
dark stuff off -- nothing I've tried works, and I don't
want to repaint.

126.10 | It's not getting darker the walls are getting lighter...
| TNPUBS::WIX | | Wed Jan 15 1992 14:18 | 7 |
| Are these walls exposed to sunlight or other strong light?
If they are what is most likely to be happening is that the walls are being
bleached by the effect of light striking them. What you are seeing is the
origional color of the walls while everything else is slowly getting whiter.
