I'm getting down to the wire here, and I need some assistance from people who frequent cat shows. As those of you who have read my note regarding Korats, you know I am a 'new' Korat breeder. Since I am new to this, I'm still learning LOTS of things. The most common thing that most breeders know (which I believe) is the ability to determine which kittens are show quality, or have show potential. This is my problem. The breeder with who's cat was bred to mine is also a CFA judge. I've been communicating (when I can catch her) with her about seeing my kittens and showing me what to look for. Well, there is a show this weekend that she is judging at -- I talked with her last week and she said that I could meet here before the show starts on Saturday, and that she could look at the kittens then. She didn't know what hotel she was at, but said she would call me. Today is Thursday, the show is this Saturday in Canton, OH. I live in Gaithersburg, MD, and I really don't want to travel 6 hours on the 'chance' that I find her! I left another message last night with her husband, and it 'sounded' like he'd give her the message, but I don't know. She's a very busy woman, which I understand. Anyhow, to make a long story short, if this doesn't come through this weekend, I'm going to need to find a reputable Korat breeder to take a look at my kittens. There's a lot of 'names' that I recognize, but it seems that the best breeders are on the west coast, and of course, I'm on the east! If in your travels you know of a Korat breeder on the east coast (anywhere from Texas and east) that could determine what kitten is show quality/potential, please let me know. My babies are 3 months old this coming Tuesday, and I've got 3 of them sold. I need to know who is who (one kitten is for showing, the other 2 as pets). HELP! I'm still going to wait till the last minute for the breeder to call me. Since it's such a long trip, and I just came back from Ohio last weekend (my mom lives there) I'd hate to put the kittens through that drive again if I don't have to! Cheryl

Cheryl, I have an idea...why not wait until they are four months old, then enter all of them in a couple of shows and see if the judges consistently pick one over another? This is a learning process for you so you could use lots of different opinions. After the show, you can ask each judge what they liked about the kitten they chose as best. The only Korat breeder I know if out here in California. Jo

Thanks, Jo. I FINALLY got a hold of the breeder, and I'm meeting her tomorrow A.M. before the show. Now, I have to go home, pack bags, pack kittens (Just kidding!), pack the momma, and roll on down the highway before rush hour! Geez, I'm starting to feel like Willie Nelson ("On the road again!") Who knows, maybe they'll ALL be show quality!! (Keep my fingers crossed!) Cheryl

Half and half. The boy, who has got the BEST personality, and I LOVE him to death, has got the worst coat. There's hardly any silver tipping, but he's got a great face. However, he's not show quality. He's DEFINITELY got to go to a great home, or he ain't leaving! (My husband will KILL me!) The next largest girl (the one I call P.A.) is the best. She has the potential for granding. Her coat feels like silk, and for a kitten has a LOT of silver tipping! (BTW: in case you don't know, these are Korats, that's why I keep mentioning silver-tipping! ;^) ) The next girl, Legs, has show potential. Jackie (the breeder in Ohio) said that she would more than likely 'fill out', but really no telling yet. My niece is buying Legs, whose new name will be Crystal. The next girl, Baby, is very tiny, and her head is shaped a little odd. She's very shy, too, so as a result, she will make a great pet! So, 50/50. Since this is my first litter, it's turning out to be very hard for me to even consider getting rid of them! I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to keep Murphy (the boy), because he is SUCH a sweetheart! But my husband cringes everytime I mention going from a 3 to 5 cat household (means HE has to start fixing more rooms in the house!) Anyhow, P.A. will start hitting the show circuit the first weekend in February with Crystal and her mom, Gracie. I know this is far for most of the FELINERS, but I'll be in Marion, OH. I'm going to try and get to the show in Massachusetts the 3rd weekend (or 4th) in February. But unluckily, my job makes me travel more than I like, so I might not be able to do that. Thanks for asking! Cheryl (and crew...)
