21.44A show this weekend....ISLNDS::FALLONFri Jun 04 1993 09:0311
There will be a cat show this weekend June 5 & 6th at the Boxborough
Host Hotel in Boxborough Ma. The hallopens at 9:00 and will close
early (maybe 3ish) due to a regional banquet being held on Saturday
nite. You are welcome to come and see the kitties. As for entrance
fee, it may be that you can just leave a donation at the door for the
Winn Foundation. Since we haven't advertised I don't expect that there
will be many people coming. There should be plenty of cats and a good
chance to see some of the best kitties in the Region or at least meet
    their owners. :'}

Oh yeah, Roberta. It used to be that the Framingham show was the 4th
weekend in September. However, a few years ago, that weekend was
Rosh Hashanah and our show manager that year was jewish. We asked to
switch it to the weekend before and have kept it there ever since.

21.57JUPITR::KAGNOKitties with an AttitudeMon Sep 13 1993 12:2931
    Shaw,

I'll save Holly some time and post directions. If she sees I have
screwed up, she can correct me. :^)

    From the North:
    ==============

Take your favorite way to Route 495 South. Follow 495 to the Route 9
EAST exit (I do not know the exit number... 23 possibly??) Anyway, it
is clearly marked Route 9 East, and is the next set of exits after the
Route 20 exits in Marlboro. Follow Route 9 East to the 5th(?) set of
traffic lights. (You will be exiting onto Route 9 from 495 in Southboro,
and Framingham is several miles from there.) At this set of lights you
should be at the intersection of Temple Street, with Finally Michael's
Restaurant on the right. Take a right onto Temple Street. At the end
of Temple Street, turn left onto Salem End Road. At the first set of
lights, turn right onto Winter Street. Follow Winter Street until you
see Keefe Tech. Vocational School on the left.

If you wish, you could follow 495 to the Mass Pike (exit after Route
9), and take the Pike East to the Framingham Route 9 East exit. The
second set of lights will be the Temple Street intersection.

Warning: Parking is a B*tch! Best to arrive as early as possible
(gate opens at 9:00, I think.)

Hope these directions take you where they are intended to!!

Or if you'd prefer, instead of taking the right at Finally Michaels,
Winter St. does run off of route 9, just stay on route 9 for another
1/4 mile or so and you'll see Winter St. on your right. If you miss
it, take the Main St. exit (next exit up) and at the end of the ramp,
take a right back onto Salem end Road and then at the lights, take a
    left onto Winter St.

Thanks again Roberta and Lori, did anyone estimate how long a drive
this is. Roberta mentioned to try to be there by 9:00... If this is any
furthur than 1 hours ride, it would be impossible to get the kids up
on a Sunday any earlier than 8:00 . How long do these shows usualy
go on... Is there any more cat shows in the near future that might be
    any closer to Southern NH.

21.63SPARKL::BARRSo close, but yet, so far!Tue Sep 14 1993 07:086
    Shaw,

From Nashua it would take about an hour to get to Framingham, so if
you're further than Nashua, count on at least an hour if not more.

re: last, I live by beach in Seabrook. So if it is going to take us
a few hours and we need to be there by 9:00 I don't think it will work.
Sundays are very hard to round everybody up that early. ;-(

21.65JUPITR::KAGNOKitties with an AttitudeTue Sep 14 1993 08:259
Shaw, you don't have to be there by 9:00. I only mentioned that for
parking purposes, but I'm sure you will find somewhere to park at any
time you arrive. It's just a pain to find a space, that's all. People
come and go at all hours of the day.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you would never find a place to park!

21.66AYRPLN::VENTURAwas ::TAYLOR. YYYYYABBADABBADOO!!Tue Sep 14 1993 08:2713
    Shaw,

You don't really need to be there by 9:00. The parking isn't the
greatest, so if you arrive later, then you just may have to walk
further. The show runs all day long. Hours are 9:00-5:00. You can
    arrive anywhere in that timeframe.

Oh, and BTW, I'll have a cornish rex that I'm showing as well as 4
kittens for sale. If you do go, stop by the Raffle. I'll be there.
My kitties will be close by.

I've been to shows at Keefe several times, and we usually don't get
there until early afternoon, and it usually just means you have park on
the other side of the building from the entrance. No big deal.

We're (me and my Sandy) planning to come, I'll bring pictures of the
kittens. Looking forward to meeting a few of you there. Rendezvous

So do we have plan here? Feliners rendezvous in the morning? Where
at the show? How will we know one another?

Me, I'm short, "chubby", balding, and will probably be wearing my Snow
Leopard tee shirt from the Seattle Zoo. I'll be in the company of a
stunning blonde lady ("my" Sandy (as opposed to Sandy Merritt), owned by
Chunky, a grey Maine Coon, and Caspar Kelly, a shaded Chinchilla Persian,
and who continually threatens to steal my darling little Blueberry, so
we'll each have three cats, instead of our current four/two imbalance)
if I can get her to go the show in the morning instead of our usual
    afternoon schedule.

I'll be there with my son, Shane. I'm also short and "chubby", but not
balding. :-) Shane will be in a blue umbrella stroller, so we
shouldn't be to hard to spot. I have no clue what I'll be wearing as
we've been having some pretty crazy weather lately.

    kitten.

I'm 5'6", blonde, medium build. I'll be wearing jeans and a pink
longsleeved shirt with a black panther on it. the back says
"International Society for Endangered Cats. Cats DON'T have nine

    Hi All!

I just found out Hubby is supposed to be going fishing this Sunday
with a friend, which frees me up to go to Framingham! That ought to
cheer me up a bit huh? I hope to meet a lot of FELINERs there. I
already know Holly, so I'll know her when I see her. (Unless she
changed as much as her name!) 8-)

I usually wear my "MEOWER POWER" FELINER T-shirt and/or sweatshirt to
cat shows, so you can look for me in royal blue with white lettering.
    ;-)

Let's see, I'm not balding, but I would still call myself chubby,
although I have lost 30 pounds, so I guess that will be a matter of
opinion! ;-) I'll probably be near Holly's cage fussing over her
    furface(s)!

Len, you'd better bring pictures of those Babies and Merlin! 8-) I'll
try to remember to bring piccies of my crew, but as most FELINErs know,
I'm not real good at remembering them! ;-)

will personally be administrating for most of the day Saturday. On

I hadn't heard anything of a show at the Clarion. It would be a

kind of cat is that?? I have listed all kittens, cats and premiers by
number to the breed. So if you see a number on the judging cage or on

    it is!

Cat Convention, Purrr-fect Competition

Over 400 of the most popular pets in the United States are finding their
way to San Jose to compete for "top cat" and celebrate the new year at
the 11th Annual Tails & No Tales Cat Show. This cat convention, the largest
in the South Bay, is sure to have something for everyone. It features 33
distinctive breeds such as the exotic Ocicat, the Japanese Bobtail and the
popular Persian. The competitors will be groomed to a tee, some in black
and white and others in tails as they strut their stuff for the judges.

The cat show is open to the public Saturday and Sunday, January 7-8, 1995,
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After ten years at the Santa Clara County
Fairgrounds, these fancy felines are heading uptown to Parkside Hall.
Parkside Hall is located at the corner of Park and Market streets at the
Civic Auditorium complex and is near the Light Rail's Convention Center
stop. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children and seniors.

In addition to the judging activities and educational rings on cats
which will take place throughout the show, spectators will have the
opportunity to see the cats up close while they are waiting to compete
and ask the exhibitors any questions they may have. There will also be
kittens of different breeds and a wide variety of cat-related items, such
as grooming supplies, toys, cat trees and gift items for sale.

Humane Society of Santa Clara County will be offering cats for adoption
each day between noon and 4:00 p.m. There will also be free spay/neuter
coupons available on Saturday while supplies last.

Proceeds from last year's show were donated to the National Pet Alliance,
Animal Welfare and Assistance of Monterey; Saint Francis of Assisi Low
Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic of San Martin; and the Robert H. Winn
Foundation, a non profit organization devoted to the support of health
related studies.

Tails & No Tales Cat Club is a member of the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).
Formed in 1906, CFA is the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats with
nearly 1.2 million cats registered in the United States, Canada, Europe,
Asia and South America. CFA promotes the welfare of all cats and responsible
pet ownership.

It explains what breed of cat you are looking at by its exhibitor
number. The guide also gives a brief description of how the show works
and what group or process you are watching. These are provided
free of charge to the spectator.

Also, we will be hosting the Oriental Short Hair Breed Booth. This
professional display is hosted by and put on by the Oriental SH Breed
    Council.

Informative literature and beautiful photos portray the evolution and
creation of the Oriental in all it's rainbow colors. This is the
first time it has appeared this far north in conjunction with the

I hope any of you who have ever been interested in the Siamese or its
cousins of another color can stop by to see this. It really is done
quite nicely. The Oriental Breed Council Secretary will also be on
hand to answer any questions as well as many OSH breeders.

Fancy Felines Forego Football

Over 300 of the most popular pets in the United States know that there is
more to New Years competition than football. Whether purebred or household
pets, they are combed, fluffed, and groomed to perfection and ready to
strut their stuff as they compete for "top cat" at the Twelfth Annual Tails &
No Tales Cat Show. As these fancy felines "tackle" their toughest
competition their strategy is, don't ever let them see you sweat or "running
back" to your grooming space, if you want to be a "wide receiver" of points.

The cat show is open to the public Saturday and Sunday, January 6 - 7, 1996,
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Parkside Hall. Parkside Hall is located in
the Civic Auditorium Complex at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street,
San Jose. If taking the Light Rail exit at the Convention Center stop.
Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Children under
age five are free.

The show will feature 33 distinctive breeds such as the exotic Ocicat, the
Japanese Bobtail, and the mysterious Birman as well as the more popular,
well-known Persian and Siamese. In addition to the judging activities, which
will take place throughout the show, spectators will have the opportunity to
see the cats up close while they are waiting to compete and ask the
exhibitors any questions they may have. There will also be kittens of
different breeds and a wide variety of cat-related items, such as grooming
supplies, toys, cat trees and gift items for sale.

An-Jan Feed and Pet Supply, a sponsor of this show, will be present at the
show. The Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley and the West Valley Pet
Shelter will be present with cats available for adoption.

Proceeds from previous shows have been donated to non-profit organizations
such as the National Pet Alliance, Animal Welfare and Assistance of Monterey,

ARE YOU FEEDING A STRAY CAT?
FREE SPAY/NEUTER VOUCHERS AVAILABLE TO ALTER STRAY CATS

January not only marks the start of a new year, but also the beginning of
kitten season. Daylight lengthens beginning in January triggering cats to go
into season. The kittens will be born in April or May and many will be
euthanized. (68% of all shelter euthanizations are feral cats, unweaned
kittens, and feral cats that are sick or in poor condition.)

According to statistics provided by the National Pet Alliance, 10% of Santa
Clara County households feed stray cats at an average of 3.4 cats per
household. Most of these cats are not spayed or neutered and are capable of
having 2.1 litters per year with an average of 4.25 kittens per litter. At
present, there is an estimated stray cat population of 168,463 in the Santa
Clara County.

Tails & No Tales Cat Club, South Bay Animal Licensing, and the Humane Society
of Santa Clara Valley would like to reduce the number of unwanted kittens and
stray cats. Therefore, South Bay Animal licensing is offering San Jose
residents free spay/neuter vouchers redeemable at participating veterinary
clinics. Although 86% of owned cats are altered, these vouchers will also be
available for owned cats since according to statistical projections 17,000
owned kittens need to be altered every year in this county. These vouchers
will be available Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7, 1996 at the Tails & No
Tales Cat Club's twelfth annual cat show. The Humane Society of Santa Clara
Valley & West Valley Pet Shelter will also have cats for adoption at the
show.

The cat show is open to the public Saturday and Sunday, January 6 & 7, 1996,
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Parkside Hall. Parkside Hall is located in

This weekend, June 7&8, there will be a cat show at the Wallace Civic
Center in Fitchburg, MA. There will be ~150-200 cats shown, and almost
every breed you can think of will be represented. The show runs from
9:00-5:00 both days, although I'd suggest arriving by 3:00 in order to
    see most of the cats.

The cost is $4.00 per adult and $2.00 for children. Children under 3
    are free.

I have some coupons for 50 cents off of admission. If you would like
to go, I can send you a .ppt file with a flyer and a sheet of coupons.
But please contact me by the end of the day tomorrow, as I will not be
    here after that.

You can contact me for further information if you'd like. I'm on
exchange mail (Holly Ventura) or send mail to POWDML::VENTURA.
