7.1 | need help here | FORTSC::WILDE | why am I not yet a dragon? | Thu Dec 12 1991 10:12 | 6 |
| I hate to admit my ignorance, but I have a problem I cannot solve here.
My notebook entry for cats shows unread topics in the notes directory, but
when I open this conference, my messages says no new notes....Any suggestions?

That should do the trick.

| The directory stuff is "just kidding" about unseen notes. I asked
someone about it a couple of years ago and got the answer "it's broke,
ignore it."

7.4 | Delete/add entry | MCIS5::CORMIER | | Fri Dec 13 1991 12:20 | 3 |
| I solved the same problem by deleting and re-adding the conference.
Since it's relatively short at the moment, it didn't take too long to
catch up.

7.6 | Batch job not working | LEDDEV::UGRINOW | | Wed Jan 22 1992 05:23 | 15 |
| I've got a "batch" process that extracts new notes overnight for me.
Since 'feline' switched over it hasn't been extracting any new notes
for me and I'm not getting any error msg (ie "Incomplete extraction...
node not reachable", etc).
These notefiles (about 10) are in a separate 'class=mail'...Are there
any restrictions on this note that prevents me from accessing during
'off-hours'??
Any other thoughts? I've no problem with any other of the notes in my
'mail' class.
Thanks in anticipation...

7.7 | | AUKLET::MEIER | Hey, furball, who pays the mortgage here? | Wed Jan 22 1992 07:35 | 7 |
| Nick,
My guess is that your seen-map hasn't been reset, which needs to be done when
a new version of a conference is created (which was done when it moved). See
notes 6 and 7 for help if you need it.

| 7.0 says add hints to note 6, but note 6 is set nowrite.
6.2 says hit kp7 to get the conference for conference listings,
but this is an unhappiness; I think perhaps because the real name
is easyNET_conferences, not easyNOTES_conferences....

Fixed.
>6.2 says hit kp7 to get the conference for conference listings,

yep, this is a typo. KP7 is now bound to the correctlu spelled
conference. I'll fix the text of the note this weekend.

| I know I've read this somewhere (not sure if it was in FELINE), but I
can't remember where, so ....
How do I set my personal name in notes? I looked in help but didn't
see anything that looked related. I know it can be done.
Thanks,

7.11 | try this | MUTTON::BROWN | set home/cat_max=5 girls 2 boys 2 hhps | Fri May 01 1992 11:40 | 7 |
| Michelle,
To do this in notes, type:
set profile/personalname="whatever"
Jo
|
7.12 | | SPEZKO::RAWDEN | Cheryl Graeme Rawden | Fri May 01 1992 13:38 | 2 |
| Almost. It's set profile/personal_name="whatever"

7.13 | Tried it first to be certain | MUTTON::BROWN | set home/cat_max=5 girls 2 boys 2 hhps | Fri May 01 1992 15:13 | 4 |
| Try it my way Cheryl, it works. I wouldn't have entered it if it
didn't work that way.

| VMS requires the qualifier to be unique within four characters. Once you've
entered /PERS, it doesn't matter whatever else you enter, VMS doesn't check
it anyway, as evidenced by the fact that SET PROFILE/PERSECUTE="personal name"
works just as well.

| Marlene,
I am not sure which keys would be the "next unseen" key on your
keyboard, but "n u" will work. Is this for your laptop?

7.18 | Karen Fallon Needs Help | MAYES::MERRITT | Kitty City | Thu Feb 11 1993 07:30 | 16 |

Karen Fallon has called me because she cannot get into the
new feline file...and she is starting to have withdrawals!!!
I don't claim to be real technical....but I had her follow
the same directions I used when the file moved...but this
does not work for her. I even had her delete the old entry
and add the new entry under the new node but she receives
a message stating "remote node unknown".
Could somebody with a bit more technical knowledge contact
Karen at 223-8833 and try to help her. She will be
very grateful!!

Has she tried 31560::feline? That may work if her node database is
local only.

7.20 | Make Sure your not Hidden... | ALLVAX::ONEILL | | Thu Feb 11 1993 08:20 | 11 |
|
The other thing to check is if Karen has a workstation, sometimes
the work station will have a network address that is "Hidden"
So the work station can only see the nodes in that cluster.
To get around this set host to the main node in the cluster and
login.
Good luck

The note you are looking for is topic 4 - Cats looking for Homes
use the following syntax
dir 4.800-4.1
The notes file will provide a directory listing from the most
current to the oldest listing for topic 4
Also there are no kill shelters that the note file here can
put you in touch with that have kitties looking for a loving home.
Let us know how we can help......

7.28 | A message from a moderator | JULIET::CORDES_JA | Eight Tigers on my Couch | Fri Nov 11 1994 13:59 | 31 |
| There seems to be some concern by some of our FELINErs about entering
notes in an old topic. The fear is that the note will not be seen.
Most folks are using "next unseen" to go through and view the notes.
Any note entered that hasn't yet been seen by the noter will come up
on screen as they browse the notesfile using their next unseen key.
It doesn't matter which topic it is in.
We have established topics for adoptions and other things. Please use
these topics with the knowledge that your note will not get passed over
just because it is in an old topic.
Please use the keywords set up for this file to find the topics you're
looking for.
SHOW KEY/FULL *ADOPT*
will bring up the Adoption topic
If you're uncertain if a keyword exists then putting in only a few
letters of the word with asterisks on either side will give you the
widest possible search for the topic.
Or, you can just type
SHOW KEY/FULL
and get a complete, alphabetical list of all the keywords with all
associated topic numbers next to them.
