| Thanks for the list GALLANT.
I found it interesting that General Hospital had just one nomination
and it was for a character who left town when Lynn Herring departed for
Days Of Our Lives.
So much for the much heralded return of Gloria Monty to "bring GH back
to Number 1".
Every year I chuckle at the list for Younger Actor and Actress. Most
of the nominees are adults, some with kids of their own. It is really
time for them to find a better heading for this award or limit
nominees' ages to 18 years in real life.

38.92 | Emmy's | POBOX::SHALKS | Is it Friday Yet? | Tue May 19 1992 08:32 | 26 |
| Thanks all for the list of nominees for the Emmy's. I am really
looking forward to June 23rd. I am glad to see that Susan Lucci
will be hosting with Phil Donahue.
I sure hope she gets it this year, I am sure by now she isn't
even counting on winning. I really hope she does. *^) After
all these years being nominated she should get it.
That was surprising they had the category for dual roles and
NASTY NAT wasn't nominated. Even though it is for last years
roles she sure started her dual role back in the summer of 91'.
I guess maybe she may be up next year, but you never know.
DUMB DUMB DIXIE I can't believe is up for "younger" actress.
You would think that category would be reserved for people like
Timmy, and a bit older, but DUMB DUMB DIXIE. Wouldn't she
be considered an ADULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PPPLLEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
AMC doesn't really seem to have to many actors or actresses
nominated. I was kindof surprised there wasn't a few more.
people. Oh well it still should be interesting with Erica/
Susan Lucci hosting, can't wait!!!!!!!! *^)

38.93 | Tonya = Tony Award | FSOA::CACQUAFRESCA | I want to go back!!!!! | Mon Jun 01 1992 06:36 | 10 |
| Tonya Pinkins (Livia, AMC) won a Tony Award last night as Best Featured
Actress in a Musical. She won for her role in Jelly's Last Jam with
Gregory Hines. She was so happy that she let out a scream during her
acceptance speech.
She was on GMA this morning and said that she didn't expect to win and
seemed embarrassed when they showed the clip of her screaming. I was
so happy for her!!!

| How old is Dixie? She's been nominated a few times for best actress
in the younger category, right? This woman has been married three
times, had an affair with a much older married man (Adam), had his
baby, then married him. For pete's sake, she more an adult than poor
Amy Vining is on GH, she's never been married let alone had someone's
baby.
Does anyone out there know how old Dixie is suppose to be on the show
and how old she is in real life?

The award show last night featured Susan Lucci at her awesome best!!!!!
She was totally dynamite and every inch a "Lucci!" (^% The standing
ovation from her peers, at the end of the show, caused her to sniffle
and we could spot a tear or two! (^% Susan/Erica is totally and

AMC won the best show category!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't understand how these shows work --> there were only two or
three presenters from ABC..... I guess this goes back to what James
Kiberd said when he was in Californ i A --> "ABC has a very small PR
Department and that's why they seem to be under-represented on these
shows!" Like he's totally right! (^%

| Susan Lucci was the best!!! I thought it was wonderful at the end when
she got a standing O. Everyone knows even though she didn't win an
emmy again, she's the best!!! I couldn't believe Kate Collins wasn't
nominated. I didn't agree with MANY of the choices. Who exactly picks
the nominee's and who decides winners?
Marie
|
38.99 | The Emmys | IAMOK::CUDAK | Thel | Wed Jun 24 1992 07:23 | 38 |
| Susan Lucci showed herself to be just what she is last night.......a
CLASS ACT!!!!!!! She looked lovely in her simple off-one shoulder
black gown and her hair rather straight simply falling to her
shoulders. The standing ovation as DC said was lead by Brian, but
within seconds eveyone in the audience was standing with him, not just
the AMC cast.
Erika Slezek beat her out for the Emmy this time. I thought she was
very arrogant in her acceptance speech, it was like she was saying "was
there any other choice? I'm the only perfect person there is." She
alluded to her 21 years with OLTL saying she believed she is the only
person to attain that number of years with a show. I think she forgot
about Frances Reid (DOOL), Mrs. Hughes and Ellen (ATWT) and a few
others.
One neat thing in my opinion was the win by Thom ? (oh dear I'm drawing
a blank, must be my old age) as best supporting actor. He is such a
gentleman.
As far as one 1 team of presenters from AMC, it was the same will all
the Soaps, one Team only. GH's team was Mac and Felicia, he looked
great and she looked scared to death but very pretty. Lynn Herring
lost out to someone from CBS (I think). There was only one very quick
shot of her when the nominations were announced.
Peter Bergman won best actor for the second year in a row....AMC proved
it is at least a good training ground.....maybe Susan should switch to
another show? :-)
Bill Bell got a special Emmy, must be his year, he also got the
editor's award on the SOD awards show. A special tribute was made to
Phil Donahue as this is the 25th anniversary year of his talk show.
The show finished at 11:00 on schedule, but to do that they had to cut
out what promised to be a fun segment. Dom Deluise talking about the
various famous performers who have appeared on the various shows
throughout the years a guest characters (i.e. him as the policeman on
AMC).

Susan Lucci was WONDERFUL! She sure is a class act! Not like that

38.101 | Susan Lucci is the BEST | POBOX::SHALKS | Suntanning time is here | Wed Jun 24 1992 07:31 | 35 |
| Well even if Susan Lucci didn't get an Emmy she did in my book.
The standing ovation that she got was like totally deserved and
she handled herself as usual with poise and dignity. She really
showed her feelings and we all felt the disappointment even if
she said Vicki from OLTL deserved to win.....NOT!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that whoever does these picks does give her one next
year because she is truely the best in the business and more
than deserved to win. I don't think there will ever be a
better actress than her and she too has been in the business
for 22 years. Erika whatever her name is isn't the only one.
Like someone was saying on our radio station this morning
they can't believe she won again, she is soooooooooooooooo
"boring" and is nothing like Erica Kane who makes AMC and
really has kept it going for along time and will for along
time to come.
Susan Lucci is and always will be the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She got my standing ovation and I was glad that her co-workers
and the rest of the crowd recognized her talents. Susan is
really a very classy women and showed all of that last night.
Now as for the rest I was a bit disappointed that they did
not have more ABC people (mainly AMC) I was happy to see that
DORCA and Hay were there and DORCA had his usual great tie
on. *^)
AMC of course won best Drama and rightly deserved that. *^)
Hopefully next year Susan, you deserve it.

| Thanks Marie, Thom Christopher it is.......I knew that!!!! :-)
Although there was only one presenting team from each show, AMC fans
did get to see most of the cast when it was annouced the show won best
in daytime. Ruth Warwick looked her usual smashng self, the others
were all dressed to the nines and were jumping up and down in there
excitement.
Funny thing is most of the soap mags predicted Guiding Light would walk
away with the majority of the awards, they had the most nominations,
however the ABC soaps beat them out of the major ones......hooray!
As far as the selection of nominees, I believe performers submit a tape
of what they believe is their award winning performance and select what
category they want to be nominated in. A "blue ribbon" panel of people
the board of governors feel belong in that category reviews the tapes
and selects the nominees. The vote for "best" in made by either all
people in that category alone or peer group (I'm not sure which).
Anyway, the selection process and the voting process has been deemed
very unfair by most of the soap mags. SOW said the whole process has
become a click.....I'll vote for you this year, you vote for me next
year type thing. They among others have called for a new process to be
developed. They stated the only reason Susan Lucci hasn't won is
because she isn't on the "blue ribbon" panel and won't play their silly
games.

and sophistication it took for her to stand in front of her peers, the

didn't win, but what amazed me was what a true lady Susan Lucci really

I saw the show last nite and was bummed when Erica didn't win again. I
cried when she got her standing O. You could tell how touched she was-
she couldn't even speak. You could tell she just wanted to let it all
out.
I was glad Peter Bergman got his Emmy. I occassionally watch Y & R and
he is really good. Far from his goody-goody roles he had on AMC. I
like Erika Slezak (Viki, OLTL) but I must admit, she gets rather boring
at times. It would have been nice if Jessica Tuck (Megan, OLTL) could
of walked away w/ something, too. But then again, nothing could have
been better if Erica got her just deserts. Next year, Susan, next
year.

chances of winning by insisting they be placed in a category they
really don't belong in.

Jagger was at the awards with Virginia Madsen, now there is a HOT looking couple
I will only include what GH'ers were up for.
Jagger was nominated for best male newcomer but lost out.
Robin won best child actress. She looked good.
Tracey was up for outstanding actress, but lost out.
Jagger, Brenda and Karen were announcers
Funny couple Scott and Lucy announcers as well
Cryin Brian got something and looked real upset as he announced he was
leaving for other things.
Jagger was up for Hottest star and boy did he look bummed when he didn't get it
like he was shocked it was not him, he looked real conceited all night to me
actually.
Holly was up for hottest female, but lost out.
Susan Lucci won finally!

I stayed up Friday and watched the awards...
You are right about Jaggar....everytime he was nominated for something,
he seemed real upset that he did not win. He was acting conceided
(IMHO)...I was glad for Robin winning her award, and she looked great.
I thought Tracy should won the Female actor, however I am biased
becasue I like ABC soaps :-)

38.128 | ..more comments | DNEAST::RANDOLPH_BET | | Mon Mar 01 1993 12:59 | 24 |
| Just a clarification...the award show that was on Friday night was the
Soap Opera Digest awards, not the Daytime Emmies. All of the hoopla
with Susan revolves around her being nominated for the Emmy for Best
Actress....so, even though she won in last Friday's award, she still
hasn't won the Emmy for Best Daytime Actress. These 2 shows can be
very confusing. When I first started getting into the soaps, I often
wondered why there was 2 awards shows each year. The show Friday was
voted on by Soap Opera Digest readers, not by a panel of Emmy judges.
Unfortunately, the Soap Opera Digest Awards carry much less prestige
than the Daytime Emmies. But the Soap Opera Digest Award show often
shows the soaps who the audience really likes, as opposed to the
winners of the Emmies that are voted on based on a few submitted clips
for the shows.
Lastly, 'Days of our Lives' won best show. 'As the World Turns' got a
special award from the Soap Opera Digest editors for their outstanding
dedication to social issues.
I was really disappointed the GH didn't receive more awards. One thing
that really touched me was when Robin thanked the audience for sticking
with the show through the bad times. It struck me very odd that she
would acknowledge that at an awards show.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The good news is, Susan Lucci won't lose out
for
a 15th time when the Daytime Emmys are awarded in May.
The bad news is, this year she wasn't even nominated.
Nominations for the 21st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, announced
Thursday, failed to mention the popular ``All My Children'' star.
She has played the tempestuous Erica Kane on the ABC soap for 23
years and has established a show business tradition by losing the
best daytime actress Emmy 14 times.
But even without her name on the list, ``All My Children''
landed eight nominations in all, including Lucci co-star Julia
Barr, who plays Brooke English.
Getting the most nominations was CBS' ``Guiding Light,'' with
16.
CBS' ``The Young and the Restless,'' was next, with 12. PBS'
``Sesame Street'' got 11, and CBS' ``As the World Turns'' got nine.
While Lucci is already out of the running, she will again be
host of the awards broadcast, set for May 25 on ABC.
The awards are voted by members of the National Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences.

| Well about Fridays show.
I think Brad Maul got ripped off. He deserved the award.
I love Justin Deas but he hasn't done a whole heck of a lot to
win the award this year.
I loved it when Rena Sofa (SP) won. She told Bobbie (mental block
on her real name.) that she deserved it. And then thanked the usual
people and Wally then said no I'm not pregnant.
I'm Glad GH won the best show it has improved so much since Gloria
MOntys second incarnation. But I still miss Sean and Tiffiny.
Of course Susan Lucci didn't win but Erica Slezack beat her out again.
Lots of deserving woman on that roster.
Well that's about all I remember.

| Jonathan Jackson won best younger actor. The presenters were his
screen parents, Tony Geary and Genier Francis. Lilja was thrilled, she
thinks he is cute.
He was so cute, he couldn't talk and finally started crying from the
emotion of winning. I'm sure he is very embarrassed now but I think he
endeared himself to everyone at the show and to the viewers.
I agree that Brad Maule got ripped off, if Peter Bergman has won, I
could have understood Brad's not winning because Peter did such a great
job in discovering his former love and the son he never knew. I felt
badly for Brad he looked so upset at the end of the show, I thought
Wendy Riche having him escort her to the stage was a nice touch.
Did you see Kimberly? She looked smashing in her Red gown! Jackie
Zeman's gown was a little much, she looked like a prom queen from the
50s. Rena Sofer was adorable and looked loverly in her rather sexy
blue gown. Actually, the most attractive woman of the GH contingent
was Wendy Riche, she is really a pretty woman. Claire Labine looks
like a comfortable old shoe. She reminded me of someone who would host
a gardening show on PBS. I don't mean that to be insulting, she
appears to be someone you would like very much and want to be around
constantly.

| Oops, I forgot to mention that ABC soaps walked away with almost all
the soap awards given out Friday night. I think there were only 2 that
didn't go to that network.

An Evening of Surprises
[Image] Get an inside look at this year's Emmys.
In a year where the main categories were dominated
by two soaps, the underdogs seemed to rule the
night. CBS's The Young & The Restless earned 20
nominations and ABC's General Hospital also
claimed double-digit nominations. Surprising
everyone, the shows with the fewest nominations
came up golden.
Guiding Light's Kevin Mambo took home his second
consecutive Emmy award for Outstanding Younger
Leading Actor. In the Supporting Actor, Bold & the
Beautiful's Ian Buchanan managed to win his first
award in four nominations. Mambo's compatriot
Justin Deas won the award for Outstanding Leading
Actor.
But don't feel sorry for the favorites as [Image]
Y&R was not without its awards. Michelle
Stafford, who played Phyllis Romalotti
and departed the show for the night-time soap
Pacific Palisades, was stunned to hear her name
announced as the Outstanding Supporting Actress.
When she took to the stage to claim her award, she
hinted that she didn't expect to win against the
likes of All My Children's Eva La Rue Callahan,
and GH's Jackie Zeman and Vanessa Marcil. Jess
Walton of Y&R won the Outstanding Leading Actress
award ending the two hour mystery of whether or
not Susan Lucci would win.
General Hospital claimed the prize as Outstanding
Drama Series. The show has now completed a
threepeat as it has won the same award the two
previous years.
In a rare tie, AMC and Y&R tied for the
Outstanding Writing award. Y&R's head honcho
William Bell said that he "was prepared for
anything except a tie." Bell's show also took home
the award for top directing.
For over 30 years, Fred Rogers has been providing
quality entertainment to youngsters through his
PBS show Mister Roger's Neighborhood. Who among us
cannot sing the theme to the show or name at least
three characters in The Land of Make-Believe?
Rogers asked the audience to devote ten seconds of
silence to people that have made a difference in
their lives. As a hush fell over the audience and
thoughts were cast back to people who made a
difference, more than just AMC's Marcy Walker and
Another World's Linda Dano were moved to tears.
But the tears continued to flow. Rosie O'Donnell
was honored as the Outstanding Talk Show host. Her
show, The Rosie O'Donnell show lost out to Oprah
Winfrey's The Oprah Winfrey Show. Upon the mention
of O'Donnell's name, Oprah ran to O'Donnell and
embraced her. A few days prior, Rosie visited
Oprah's talk show and Winfrey told O'Donnell that
she wanted her to win the award. O'Donnell was
moved to tears as she recalled visiting Radio City
Music Hall with her mother. O'Donnell's mother
passed away several years back, but O'Donnell said
that she feels her mother is "guiding me in life."
Also in a special presentation, Guiding Light was
honored for marking its 60th anniversary. The show
began in the hayday of radio and at one point
actually aired live episodes on radio and
television on the same day.
This year marked the first time that the Daytime
Emmy awards were broadcast from New York City's
Radio City Music Hall. Following is a list of the
soap opera winners with winners denoted by
bold-face font.
