Conference misery::abc_soaps

    Thought this might be helpful for the newer AMC noters...
    The names of the characters have evolved tremendously through
    the months and most of us refer to the characters by some sort
    of nickname.  A little while ago I can remember that someone was
    confused by the name "P the L" so I thought I'd compile a list of
    some our most common endearing terms.  Anyone who knows more,
    post them by all means.
    
    Travis:  Travis-the-Weenie, TtW, Tee the Wee
    
    Jackson:  Puffy the Lawyer, P the L, PtL
    
    Barbara:  Borebara, Borebra, Babs
    
    Ceara:  $eara, $$$$$$$$eara (for folks who *really* want to get the
                                 point across)

    I was watching Oklahoma Sunday and who was in it, but good ole Uncle
    Palmer. Looked pretty much the same, but he did have dark hair. Also
    EmilyAnn is doing a commerical for Bennigans (resturant).

    Did anyone watch Susan Lucci on Sat. Night Live this past
    weekend.  Was it a repeat?  They made reference to her never
    winning the emmy.  It was a funny skit.  Do you think that
    that Susan Lucci ever gets sick of playing Erica?  Erica at
    times gets on my nerves.

    Karen --> it must have been a repeat!  Did they show Erica in the 
    suitcase room saying a prayer for the return of her lost luggage?
    
    The part of that show that made me laugh so hard was when Erica/Susan
    was walking down the corridors at SNL and there were these three guys
    eating corn on the cob using two emmy statues to hold the corn to their
    mouths!!!!!!!!  It was pretty funny!   -->    (]*;"  Yes it was sort
    of "corny" (pardon the pun) but you can give me a little burlesque 
    with my corn anyday!

    Also, I saw Myra on a preview for some movie.  Don't remember which

    I went to the movie over the week-end and saw Russia House, guess who
    had a small part?.... Mark Dalton, I don't remember his real name. Has

    This came up in the regular string of AMC and I thought I'd post
    a response here since it has to do with history...
    
    Charlie's father was Philip Brent, adopted son of *Ruth* and Ted
    Brent (same Ruth who is now married to Joe Martin).  Philip's parents
    were Amy Tyler (don't know who she married to acquire the Tyler name)
    who was Ruth's sister and Nick Davis, a long-time friend of Mona Kane.
    Anyway, upon becoming pregnant, Amy left town to have her baby and Ruth
    and Ted who were childless, went away for a time too and came back
    after having adopted Amy's baby, but told everyone the baby was their
    own.  (See, Amy had an illicit affair with Nick).  Anyway, Ted Brent
    was a wicked *ssh*le (he always wore loud plaid suits) and he and Ruth
    were getting close to the edge of divorce.  Philip was in love Tara
    Martin and Erica was jealous (they were all in high school at the time)
    and one day Erica overheard (sounds like Barfanca) her mother and Nick
    discussing the fact that he was Philips's real father.  Well, Erica
    rushed right out and spilled the beans to Phil who was practically
    devistated by the news.  Ted Brent got wind of the fact that Phil
    knew and assumed that Nick told him.  He rushed out in his car to go
    "kill that Nick Davis" and due to reckless driving, got into an
    accident and died.
    
    The way Charlie found out about Phil being his real father I'm kind
    of foggy on, but I don't believe it was Erica who told him.  It may
    have actually been Tara and Phil who sat him down one day.  Cheryl A.:

    Another nickname is Beanie Man for Mr. U.
    
    Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's more to the Phil/Tara
    story.  Phil and Tara married themselves (?) in a motel the night
    before Phil went off to Vietnam, where he was presumed killed.  OF
    COURSE, Tara got pregnant with Charlie, who was called little Philip,
    and she married Chuckles, who had always been in love with her.  Phil
    miraculously (!!!) reappeared, to find Chuckles and Tara and their
    little son Philip, and he married Erica.  This didn't last long, and
    Tara divorced Chuckles and married Phil, at which time, little Philip
    insisted upon being called Charlie.  Meanwhile, Erica was having an
    affair with Nick Davis, Phil Brent's real father.  But Nick was
    SMART.  He flatly refused to marry Erica!!!!
    
    As an aside, I can't remember what they were wearing!!!!!

    and her mother?  How did these two fit into the Chuck/Tara/Phil

    Carrie Saunders is but a vague memory...  I remember her mother
    was a battered wife and her husband (Carrie's father) died somehow.
    The wife killed him in self-defense, perhaps?  I remember that
    Chuckles married Carrie, but I don't know how Phil and Tara fit
    into that situation.  She and Chuckles didn't last too long...  he
    left town, then she did, then he came back, left again, and came
    back...

    I don't remember how Charlie found out about his true parentage.  I do
    seem to remember though, that he did the usual running away to Grandma
    Ruth's house.  Wasn't that about the time little Tad was caught smoking
    pot out his bedroom window?  I remember the two sharing a bedroom and
    at the time, Charlie was a little goodie-two-shoes and didn't want to
    smoke any.  Tad made him promise not to tell on him, but he got caught
    anyway.
    
    I'm also not sure about the Carrie Saunders storyline.  I don't
    remember it very well, except that the battered wife Lenore was in love
    with Joe Martin.  Didn't he have a brief affair with her???  Boy, that
    was a long time ago!!!

    You're right!  And now that you mention it, I do seem to remember
    Joe having an affair with her.  I know that he used to treat her when
    her husband knocked her around and then they took the plunge.  Ruth
    accepted him back because of her little illicit fling with David
    Thornton even though her affair took place way before, although for
    a while there, it looked like they were going to have big problems.

    I have just a few questions about some of the characters and what
    happened to them.  
    
    What happened to Hillary?
    
    What happened to Nina? (I know she came back, I think her and old wart
    face adopted a kid but thats all I remember)
    
    Also can someone list all the husbands Erica has had?  
    
    I stopped watching AMC about the time Tad/Hillary were and item.

    kw --> I'll take a stab at it -->  Hillary, after divorcing Tad for
    perpetual philandering, left her job at Tempo around the time that
    Barbara took over.  They didn't get along.  I think Donna Sago's
    brother Mitch and her were an item for a while --> didn't they
    live in a trailer???????  Hillary was Langley's daughter, so she had
    a pretty close relationship with Brooke!  I think  Hillary went to 
    Boston???????
    
    Nina and Cliff got back together and moved to Denver.  I think this
    was their third marriage.  She divorced the burly Matt.  Cliff made
    an abrupt about-face and totally dropped Angie for Nina.  
    
    Laura was the natural child of Brooke and Tom.
    
    This brings up more questions --> does anyone remember Giles St. Clair!

    Also, Erica has been married 9 or 10 times...I don't have the running
    total, but the figure seems about right, then when I go to name them 
    off it seems like she was only engaged to them, Jerm, Mike Roy, &Nick
    Davis for starters.... But she DID marry Tom (Twice maybe), Adam,
    Travis (Twice)....ummmm who else???

    Erica's husbands were:
    
    Jeff Martin, Adam Chandler, Tom Cuddahy, and Travis Montgomery (twice). 
    I think that was it.  She was engaged to Mike Roy (they did have and
    do-it-yourself wedding, no priest or JP), Brandon Kingsley, Jerm, and
    Nick Davis.  So, it seems like she's been married 9 times, but it's
    actually only 5.  Looks like she's trying for number 6!!!

    Don't forget that Erica was also married to Phil Brent for a short
    time.  I seem to remember she went nuts after either losing a baby
    (miscarriage) or having an abortion.  The house she and Phil lived
    in was purchased from Erica by Myrtle.  Phil divorced Erica and
    married Tara and then died in a helicopter crash in South America
    where he was working for the DEA.  His title was "Special Agent".

    Bon --> Erica and Brooke both competed for the attentions of Giles 
    St. Clair --> He finally chose Brooke (he used to call her BWOOK!)
    He got killed in a wicked motorcycle accident!
    
    Now here is a real brain teaser!  Who was that international
    model-type, drop-dead gorgeous French girl, who became Brooke's 
    rival for Giles?

    A couple of weeks ago --> Phoebe and Enid Nelson told Nasty Natalie 
    that she "should be expecting an invitation to join the Daughters of 
    Fine Lineage, soon!"  So far, the invitation hasn't arrived. (^%
    
    Question --> remember when Erica tried out for the "Daughters" clan
    and was soundly rejected by the silk-covered and white-gloved ladies!  
    Anyone remember why she was rejected?  Was she ever inducted into the 
    "Daughters" at a later date?  Was it because she was living in sin with
    Mike Roy?

    The FP wasn't watching regularly during the Giles StClair period,
    but remembers Brandon Kingsley!!!!  The guy who played him, besides
    being very well dressed (!) played Steve, Whoever-Jo's husband on
    Petticoat Junction.  
    
    Also, Steve Jacobi (Dack Rambo), that hunkohunko burnin' love that Nina 
    had a passionate affair with, played Walter Brennan's grandson on
    the Guns of Will Sonnett.  Our beloved (gag!) SAdam was Candy on
    Bonanza.
    
    As for Erica's husbands: Jeff Martin, Phil Brent, Tom, SAdam, Mike
    Roy (there seems to be a lot of confusion here, and I only have
    vague memories...), and Travis the odd nostriled Weenie twice.
    That makes either 7 or 6 marriages and either 5 or 6 husbands.
    
    Here's a question:  What man in PV has been married the most????

    Actually DC, I counted five times too, but I don't remember a
    Julia.  I DO remember Cynthia.  I've blocked out those hateful
    Ross Chandler years...she had a son named Andrew.  Are we talking
    about the same woman, or is there a SIXTH wife??????  Also, I
    believe that Palmer was married to Daisy twice.
    
    Your bosom [clutching] buddy SAdam has also been married to five
    women: Skye's mother, Erica, Brooke, Dingalingaling, and Natalie.
    
    Mr. Righteous Holiness Tom Cudahy has been married FOUR times
    to Erica, Brooke, Skye, and Borebra.  Looks like he might be
    available again in the near future to challenge the silver set!

    I was just thinking about Erica and a couple of situations she was in. 
    Does anyone remember the time she and Nastely had the powder fight. 
    Also, I remember that both Erica and Brook were in the the jungle
    together and Brook did alot better than Erica.  Anyone remember the

    Marcum --> Didn't Erica and Brooke get rescued by Jeremy and Mat
    when they were kidnapped to the islands?  I can't remember why

    the evil eye when Giles died.  Was Adam's estranged wife, the one

    I think who ever said Olympia was wrong (confusing your soaps that was ONE of
    Asa Buchanan's wives on OLTL.  If I remember correctly Adam's first
    wife and Skye's mother was Althea.  I don't think she was ever in an
    institution, but Asa has Olympia in one!!!
    
    

    /red:  Yes, *definately* Olympia is from OLTL and Althea is Skye's
    mother.  Skye's real name is Antoinette.  She took the name Skye
    when she had a singing career (the Australian actress who was the
    original Skye used to sing in PV).  SHe had a creepy manager, I
    forget what his name was.

    Does anyone remember an actress named Gwyn Gillis? I know someone who
    is in an acting workshop which is taught by Gwyn.  She claims to have
    had a part in AMC but my friend never asked what the part was or in
    what time period. 
    
    Does anyone remember this woman? Was she attractive? What was the
    storyline and the approximate year it aired?

    Here's another trivia question for all you AMC watchers. This goes a
    way back...Does anyone remember the Frank and Nancy Grant storyline? I
    think Nancy was pregnant, Frank died, I'm not quite sure about that,
    but Nancy re-marry to give the baby whose name was Carl a father. Does
    anyone remember this, and can you elaborate?

    Joanna was not Skye's mother, she was Stuart's wife, who was really in
    love with Adam, although he never gave her the time of day.  
    
    Carl's father was Frank and he and Nancy were still married when he was
    born.  She married later and moved to Chicago.  Nancy was Jesse's aunt.

    haven't had a cjance to get caught up w/ all the history
    replies yet, but SOD just had, "all you need to know to watch AMC"
    & it sez in there who all of Ericas & PS's hubbies were!

                in Llanview (the town from OLTL) - at least I *think*
                it was Llanview, but she was disguised as a nun?  It's
                all a haze to me...  Why was she pretending to be a nun
                and who/what was she hiding from?  Was this when that
                dark-haired guy (oh, what was his name?) was killed by
                the first Silver who was really a Silver imposter?   Why
                does the name Kent Bogart keep going through my head?

    can remember!  All I can remember was when Erica had to climb through
    a window in her Nun's habit because someone was chasing her!

    Carl's father was a man named Carl (forgot his last name).  He
    died in a plane crash on his way to marry Nancy Grant.  Nancy
    eventually married Frank Grant, M.D. 
    
    Frank Grant was Jessie's uncle.

    Hi DC.  Sorry, I wasn't watching much during the Nun story line.
    
    However, I do have some corrections to this file.
    
    15.16 - Phil and Tara were married at a roadship chapel, not in a
            motel.
            
            When Phil returned, Chuck and Tara stayed married for quite a
            while, but eventually, they did get remarried.  I don't
            remember exactly, but I don't think the marriage turned
            out that great.  There was still a very strong bond between
            Chuck and Tara. 
    
    15.42 - As I remember it, Jesse was Frank's nephew, not Nancy's.  In
            fact, at first Nancy didn't like Jesse very much, but Frank
            kept telling her to give him a chance.  She finally grew to 
            love him.  (Remember, when Jesse first arrived on the scene
            he was really bad news).
    
    

    Just think... If Erica divorces Travis and marries Jack, she'll
    be  Erica ... Montgomery Montgomery Montgomery!
                                   

    
    Although I don't know all the actual names, Erica was married 8 times. 
    This was detailed in the old notes file as well as confirmed when
    Susan Lucci had her little stunt on Saturday Night Live.

    Yes, the "..." was supposed to mean that I omitted the other 
    names intentionally. I just thought it was funny that not only had she 
    married the same guy twice, but would add the name again, when she 
    married her brother-in-law! Only Erica!

    
    Does anyone remember anything about when Mark Dalton was a drug
    addict?  Was Brooke involved?  Who captured him and why did they
    get him started on drugs?  Was Brooke writing a story or was she
    still working for the TV station?  Thanks!

    Mark Dalton started using drugs when he became involved in
    writing songs in NYC.  He started running around with a
    lot of high-powered-fast-paced people.  I don't think
    Brooke was involved.

    Mark got started on drugs when he was a song writer in New York.
    It was introduced to him by someone in the business.  At the time
    he was also singing at Chateau when it was managed by Ellen. He
    got hooked and eventually couldn't function.  I can't remember

    th Brooke or married to Ellen during this time.  At one time when he 
    was high he gave Ellen a shove which landed her on her rump which 
    resulted in a miscarriage, and then I think eventually a divorce.    
    It's been so long that all the storylines seem to blend in together.
    

    
    I remember Mark was framed for some drug sale and he was in this 
    big old house, being forced to take IV drugs.  I thought Brooke
    was able to escape and eventually get him rescued.  I sort of
    remember gun fire....  By the time he was freed, he was a hopeless
    addict.  Maybe Brooke wasn't involved at all --> I can't remember!

    I thought Brooke, Erica and Ellen were the people who tried to help him
    with his drug problem, I know Erica and Ellen did, I can't remember if
    Brooke was the third person or not.

    	When Mark was in the house Brooke was also held captive. Mike Roy
    resuced them. They were running from the house and that's when Mike got
    shot only to die shortly thereafter.
    	Remember when Mark thought he might have had aids this was when
    Cindy was in town.

    I sort of remember this big house and Mike Roy and Brooke are
    escaping with guns being shot everywhere.  Mark was held captive
    and shot up with the drugs.  BRYDON --> I think you are right,
    there was some Judge mixed up in all of this!  Eventually, he
    was brought to justice.
    
    Didn't Mark finally escape and Erica hid him in her attic?  Was
    she still married to Adam at the time?  Or did she already have
    the house she is in right now?
    
    Mike died in the hospital and Erica sobbed over his body!  She
    blamed and still hasn't forgiven Brooke for getting Mike involved 
    in this adventure!  BTW, if anyone wants to borrow it, I still 
    have the tape where Erica attempted to win another lost Emmy,
    as she cried over Mike.
    
    Wait a minute --> Erica and Mike lived in this little cottage!
    How was she seeing Mike while still married to Adam?  Now I am
    more confused!  Help!

	I'm alittle soft in the brain when it comes to remembering, but
	wasn't Mike a writer who was writting Erica's biography or 
	helping with her autobiography?   If so, I think that was before
	Adam came into the picture, but I really don't remember.  It's 
	all kind of fuzzy in my mind.

    It was at the same time Adam came into the picture.  Erica and Mike
    were working on Erica's book.  Erica and Mike were falling in love. 
    Adam was the one producing the movie of Erica's book and decided he
    wanted Erica for himself.  He proposed and Erica after going back and
    forth (yes, like with Travis and Jackson) she decided Adam could give
    her a better life (HA).  But after she and Adam got married (after she
    and Tom slept together the night before her wedding, ruining Tom and
    Brooke chance of reconciliation), she decided she wanted Mike.  Adam on
    the other hand didn't want to divorce her. (here's where I get fuzzy) 
    Didn't Adam hold her prisoner on an island and Mike (and I think this
    is when Jeremy got introduced) save her.  Then she and Mike were going
    to finally get married, and Brooke and Mark were involved with this
    drug thing with JUDGE MARTEL and Mike went to save them (i think Jeremy
    was in on this too) and Mike got shot and of course Erica blamed Brooke
    for involving Mike and Mark in her schemes.  Jeremy and Mike had met on
    Mike's trip to Tibet (I think this was part of Erica's decision to
    marry Adam, to punish Mike for going on this trip) and now Jeremy was
    here and felt he was sent here as Erica's protector.
    
    Whew, I think I've done enough for one day, I'm ready to go home;^)

    finally got reunited and shortly after that, she left the show!
    Her name was Jane!  Phoebe hated her!  (^%
    
    I never understood this --> I thought Brooke's father was a big
    drug-lord....  When Jane confessed that she was Brooke's mother, 
    this never came up?  Maybe she was a big-time imposter!

    Hi, I'm here.  I remember what Elaine remembers, Peg English was really
    nice when she first came on the show.  I remember her having auburn
    hair and being very attractive.  Anyway, she and Pheobe got along very
    well (they were sister-in-laws).  Then all the talk about Cobra started
    and I remember someone being on the phone with Cobra, but you couldn't
    hear the person's voice.  Then the screen switched and there was Peg
    English on the other end of the phone, giving orders.  I think she
    ended up dying when the story came to a close.
    
    Peg finally told Brooke that she wasn't her real mother towards the
    end.
    
    I also remember that Jane (the bag-lady who was Brooke's real mother)
    used to take care of Laura for Brooke when she went to work.

    it hasn't been mentioned for a while she was suppose to be investing
    most of the money she got from the settlement with Adam to build
    another shelter

    when he left he apologized for not being able to see the job thru but
    he couldn't pass up this wonderful oppurtunity, of a great job away

    I'm not too clear on the Ed English/Bag Lady story, but I do know
    that YES, Brooke was wild in her younger days.  Her original love
    interest on the show was Benny Sago who was a biker type, then
    Phoebe took him under her wing and hired him as her chauffer.  He
    was the one who nicknamed her "the Duchess".  At first, Phoebe couldn't
    stand Benny and was always after Brooke for the types she hung around
    with, but then Brooke started seeing Dan Kennicott and she calmed
    down from there.  After Dan, she was interested in Mark Dalton, then
    married Tom, split with Tom while pregnant and went back to Mark who
    helped her deliver the baby if memory serves me correctly and then
    got back with Tom again.  Adam came along after she and Tom split
    for the second time.  BTW - she never married Mark although there was
    a time when she was desperately in love with him.  He was a music
    professor at PVU then.

    Dr. Damon Lazarre...is going to be reprising his first role on a soap,
    that of Carl Hutchins on Another World...he fell into the water on that
    show and was never found.  if he's going to resurface there, perhaps he
    and Goldie will show up again eventually on AMC.

    Does anyone remember the name of Tad's first wife.  She was in high
    school and I think got pregnant but then lost the baby but kept on
    faking the pregnancy in order to marry Tad.  I think they even lived
    with the Martin's during all this.  Her (Tad's wife) mother was a real
    wild woman... That's about all I remember.

    No, no, dc...  The house that Myrtle lives in was Erica and *Phil's*
    little love nest.  She got pregnant, had a miscarriage, went beserk,
    got divorced, got fat, went to fat farm, lost weight, came back,
    sold the house, took up with Nick who had come back to town, he dumped
    her, she married Tom.  During all this time, Mona (or, as Phoebe called
    her "that Kane woman") was happily married to Charles Tyler who was the
    chief of staff at the hospital.  Yes, indeed, she was his long-time
    secretary and was there for Charles after Anne died and Phoebe became
    an insufferable drunk.  Nick and Mona (as someone already mentioned)
    were nothing more than very close friends.  Nick (at the beginning of
    AMC) owned a dance studio and Kitty was his sidekick.  For some reason
    that I don't know, they always seemed kind of sleazy to me.  Kitty
    later married Linc Tyler (much to Phoebe's dismay) and they moved
    away.  Kitty died (the actress who played her was Francesca Something-
    or-other) and then some years later she came back to the show as
    Kelly - Kitty's twin sister.  If memory serves me correctly, Linc
    married her also.  This was when Myrtle came into the picture and I'll
    get into that later.  Now, are you thoroughly confused?  And to answer
    your original question, no, Mona was not married to Charles Tyler
    while Erica was married to Jeff Martin.

    a little info on your question!  It wasn't Anne who walked around
    carrying a baby doll... It was zoftig Donna!  She conceived her
    baby while stranded by an avalanche --> facing certain death, she
    and Chuck slept together in a very convenient cave, one last time! (^%
    
    She tried to pass the baby off as Palmer's --> since she was newly 
    married to him, but he was impotent at the time and knew she was 
    lying!!!!!!!  The fire occured at Ellen's restaurant (the Chateau)
    on the night of zaftig Donna's singing debut!  (^%
    
    It was another major fire in the continuing AMC fascination with fire 
    and it's concurrent devastation!  (^%  The baby was in his crib and 
    perished in the flames!  You can imagine how this affected Donna!  She 
    was a total basket case for months...... Carrying around that toy baby 
    doll was only a surface manifestation of much more serious problems!

    nit (don't you just hate how I always pick on you?!)...  Palmer was
    never impotent until now (a side-effect from the poisoning) - but
    he's always been *sterile*.  See, he was in this polo accident and

    And the other question about Anne...  Yes, she did go nuts after her
    daughter died (the baby was born with Down's Syndrome) and she was
    institutionalized for a time.  She, BTW, was the original owner of
    the boutique.  She died when someone tried to kill her husband, Paul
    Martin (Dr. Joe's brother) who was DA at the time.  They put a bomb
    in his car or something - no, maybe it was their house - oh, I forget,
    but anyway, Anne was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
    I also believe that they had their child institutionalized, but I
    forget how she died.  It could have been an illness like pneumonia or
    something.  At any rate, there's still a ton of stuff that I don't
    know because I didn't watch the show all the time.  I can remember
    back 21 years ago when I was home from school for about two weeks
    with my sister just as AMC aired its very first episode.  We watched
    it and got hooked.  She was about the same age as Chuck, Tara, Phil,
    and Erica at the time (well, maybe a little older) so that may be
    what first interested her.  I was only 11, but wanted to be exactly
    like my sister so I did everything she did.  She didn't stick with
    AMC but I did obviously.

    astute noter (a few back) was correct when she said it was because
    Susan Lucci was pregnant in real life.  On the show, Susan was gone
    for a few months (Erica supposedly went to fat farm in Arizona)
    and I think it was when she came back that she decided to try out
    being a model.  She was the something-or-other girl... I can't
    remember...  Now that's a good question, folks.  Anybody know

    When actors or actresses on AMC die in real-life, the writers
    of the show have them die on the show.  Charles' death on the
    show was real low-key and handled much the same way as they
    handled Kate Martin's death.  Charles died before Kate, but I

    she was a model for Lacys Department Store.  Remember how she
    got the Sensuelle job ?  She was married to Tom and Sensuelle
    wanted a male/female modeling team and Erica (without Tom's
    knowledge) sent in her and Tom's picture and they liked Tom.
    When Erica tried to talk Tom into becoming a model with her,
    her refused and Sensuelle didn't want Erica without Tom.
    Just one of her many sneaky scheming manipulations.
    
    One of my favorite lines from when Erica was fat and Mona
    was after her to lose weight - Erica and Mona were at the
    dinner table and Erica says 
    "shut up and pass the potatoes, Mother!"

    the Goal Post behind Tom's back.  The Goal Post originally
    had a football theme.  Tom wanted the restraunt to capatilize
    on his ex-pro football status.  One day Tom went out of town
    and Erica had the Goal Post remodeled to look like an Irish
    restraunt with lace curtains, etc.  Tom came back, saw what
    she'd done and threw a fit.

    Jackie not only is Andrew off the show...he went to jail, but he's
    continuing his life of crime on Columbo...he murdered his teacher on

    PC took Andrew under his wing.

    He was also on LA LAW a few weeks ago.  He played the ex-lover of
    Rickie Something-or-other who was accused of murdering her aged,

    Maybe its my faulty memory.  I thought that Andrew was trying to murder
    Ross and planted some kind of device under the saddle of the horse
    Ross was supposed to ride. (It was during some kind of social horsey
    event...like a fox hunt).   I thought somehow Alex Hunter rode Ross's
    horse and died as part of a horsing accident.  I thought also that
    either Jeremy or Ross's were initially blamed for the event, but that
    eventually it came out as Andrew who was afraid of losing Palmers
    affections/money because he was not Ross's son.
    
    
    Natalie had tried to get Alex Hunter to have a heart attack by seducing
    him.  Thats when she became pregnant with Timmy but ol' Alex didn't
    die.  When she found herself pregnant she seduced Jeremy and made him
    think he was the father.  There's more to this but I don't exactly

	Very close...Andrew cut the straps on the saddle.  He was trying to

    What are the funny lines that AMC characters have said over
    the years that stick with you?  There's got to be hundreds,
    but one that I remember the most was when Langly went to the
    airport to catch that horrible guy Wade that tried to bilk
    Phoebe out of all her money.  Remember, she actually married
    the slime?  Anyway, Langly is on this hot pursuit and Wade
    knows it, so he steals this woman's suitcase, goes into the
    bathroom and comes out in drag!  Langly spots him and a scuffle
    ensues.  Wade has a gun, but Langly gets it away from him, backs
    up, aims the gun at Wade and says:
    
    
    "GO ON!  MAKE MY DAY!"
    
    I realize you kind of had to see it to think it was funny.  And it
    wasn't really meant to be serious either, I don't think.  Just
    picture Langly....

    I think you are talking about two different people.  The was a good
    friend of Jesse and Jenny's who worked at Foxies whose name was Vera.
    Angie didn't like her at first, but they all became really close.  If I
    remember correctly she was Frankie Godmother.
    
    There was also a singer that sand with Jesse at a club whose name was
    Yvonne.  She ended up seducing Jesse and caused alot of other problems
    for Jesse and Angie.  I think she came back to the show later with a
    baby that Angie suspected was Jesse's.

    I don't think Yvonne's baby was Jesse's baby, but I do remember that
    she came back to Pine Valley claiming that the baby was 
    Travis Montgomery's baby. He was running for some political office
    at the time, and she was being coerced into blackmailing him by
    somebody (maybe the baby's father?).  Jesse got involved in
    helping Travis. Does anyone else remember that storyline?

    I have a funny feeling that this twin thing is going to happen.
    After all, they already brought Phil back from the dead once

    went down in South America, his body was never recovered...  The
    twin thing is really far-fetched, but I think bringing him back from
    the dean *twice* would be more far-fetched.  I just wonder how they're
    going to work this into everything...  Like, where was he all these
    years.  How come Ruth didn't know?  After all, her own sister was
    Phil's mother and she was there when he was born.  Why wouldn't she

    P.S.  Ellen and Devon's last name may very well have been Shepherd,
          but don't forget that Harlan was Ellen's father and would
          therefore have a different last name.  Ellen and Devon had the
          last name of whoever Ellen married and fathered Devon.  And I
          believe his name was Harlan and not Adrian as mentioned earlier.
    

    Ellen and Devon's last name was Shepard.  Ellen was married to
    .... Shepard (I don't remember his first name).  When Ellen and
    Devon came to PV, Ellen's husband had left her for another woman.

    was his last name - from Gardner to Martin.  I'm sure if they

    Yes Jackie...  When she was written off the show (aka "gone on a long
    cruise) it was actually because she had passed away.  When they were
    playing the closing music for the show, there was a picture of the
    actress (sorry... forgot her name) with the year she was born and the
    current year.  I can't remember if she died in '89 or '90, however.
    I did see her shortly after in some TV movie.  I think she played a
    judge.  Quite the opposite of Wilma Marlowe.
    
    Also...  I happened to catch the actress who played Pat Baxter on
    Sesame Street the other day.  She played "Barbara the Barber".  I'm
    not sure when this episode was taped, though.  It could have been
    old, but she looked the same as the last time I saw her as Pat Baxter.

    Surprisingly, I don't remember much about Brooke's pregnancy with
    Laura.  Could it be that it was normal and not very memorable???? 
    Anyway, I do remember that the kid who played Laura didn't have any
    hair until she grew up and was played by another actress.  The baby
    Laura was played by Lorraine Broderick's (the head writer of AMC)
    daughter.  I worked with Lorraine's sister Corrine at the Mass. Medical
    Society and used to watch it at lunch time.  Everyone used to comment
    about this kid's lack of hair.

    Ruthie had a pretty normal pregnancy with Joey, although she was
    neurotic (to the point of obsession) that he might have Downs.  Sloey
    started out as a late-in-life baby, but since he's aged about 20 years

    Donna had a normal pregnancy with Jon, but the baby died in the fire.
    
    Ann Martin's baby, Beth, was born mentally retarded and died about a
    year or two after birth.
    
    Dottie Thornton had a miscarriage but pretended she was still pregnant
    so she could keep Tad.
    
    Erica had the first abortion ever on soaps.  Then, when she had Bianca,
    she was toxemic and had to be put in the hospital early.  Then she had
    "the dream" (the one with every man ever in her life present) and
    delivered Bianca, who they thought was a boy until she was born.
    
    Nina Cortlandt, Werner, Werner, Connolly, Werner (wow!), I think had a
    normal pregnancy with her son, Michael, but didn't he get really sick
    and she brought him back to PV to be treated by Cliff??

    I don't remember much about Laura's birth...so you people are right it
    must have been normal.  I do remember Donna's hysterical pregnancy and
    figured they were heading that way the other day with EA.  I agree
    about those doctors, what ever happened to patient confidentiality? 
    Shouldn't EA be the one, not Joey who was told she wasn't pregnant? 
    And since when can you tell by a doctors face that something was wrong? 
    I certainly can't tell anything with my doctors, in fact I had all I
    could do to pry any info out of my surgeon, I got all my info on the
    operation from the surgeon I went to for a second opinion.
    
    I wish these soaps would be a little more realistic sometimes.

    In response to your question on Derek and Angie, they were kissing in
    that garden and then Angie said "I love you too Jesse".  Derek told
    Angie that she only loved him because he reminded her so much of Jesse
    and she wanted that type of relationship back in her life.  Angie
    protested this, but after talking with Ruth, she decided that he was
    right and they mutually broke off the relationship.  Angie decided to
    take a position as Chief of ??? (the only 21 year old doctor I know!!)
    in another state.  I forget where, but I think it may be Chicage. 
    Anyway, she and Frankie moved away very quickly.
    
    In reality, the show decided to write out the characters of Angie, Cal

    This happened before Donna was introduced onto the show.  Donna had
    appendicitis when she was working for Tyrone, her pimp.  Tyrone bribed
    the doctor into tying her tubes while she was having her appendix out. 
    
    Now we come to the part after Donna was introduced onto the show. 
    Donna was convinced that she was pregnant.  I think it was Dr. Clater
    (boy, he's been around for a while!!) who told Chuck that it was
    impossible because he found that Donna's tubes had been tied.  Donna
    was still convinced she was pregnant.  I remember that her stomach
    really grew to look like she was really pregnant.  It wasn't until she
    got help that she finally realized that she wasn't.  She was so
    insecure in Chuck love that the only way she felt she could keep him is
    to have a baby.
    
    The operation was reversed after Donna recovered but I believe she
    still couldn't conceive.  That is until that unexpected rendevous in
    the cave during the snowstorm with Chuck while married to Palmer.

    Kathryn's note at 15.101 has a good description of Nick.  I'll add a
    little.  He had an affair with Amy Tyler, Ruth's sister and got her
    pregnant with Phil.  So, he's Charlie's grandfather.  Also, he had an
    affair with Erica who was madly in love with him.  He tried to resist
    her because she was his good friend Mona's daughter, but succumbed to
    Erica charms.  Never mind the fact that she was always chasing him and
    trying to seduce him.  That would be sick behavior today, but then, it
    was persistant and entertaining.  They slept together a few times, but
    Nick realized that Erica wanted a father figure, not a lover in him and
    broke off the relationship.
    
    I think he ran the Chateau for a while and Ellen bought it from him. 
    He left town to run a chain of restaurants and has appeared on the show
    from time to time throughout the years.  Mona always called him Nicky,
    but no one else did.

    Just read thru all this, and I have a partial answer to .159:  who
    was Margo Flax?

    Margo was married to Paul Martin (Joe's brother).  I think this was
    while Ann Martin was still alive, in fact I'm pretty sure she and Paul
    were "estranged" but Paul was still in love with her.  He definitely
    wasn't in love with Margo!  And she knew it, so in order to keep him,
    she faked a pregnancy.  She eventually wore pillows under her clothes.
    She arranged a trip to New York around her due date, and arranged to
    buy a baby while in NY.  Somehow this plot got foiled at the last
    minute.

    I distinctly remember her because I thought she was despicable.  (This
    was my first taste of the old "fake a pregnancy to keep a husband"
    story-line).

    Also in note .159 was a question about who was Claudette Montgomery.
    Anyone remember?  I remember the name, but that's all.

    Bobby was Joe's son by his first marriage.  He was Tara and Jeff's
    brother and like Chuck on Happy Days, he just disappeared and was never
    mentioned again.  It's like he never even existed.  The running joke is
    that he went to the attic to wax his skis, but never came back down. 
    AMC even made a joke about it when Opal was locked in the Martin attic
    about a year ago.  There were a pair of skis hanging on the wall and
    she commented on them without mentioning Bobby's name.  We, who know
    the history know what she mean't though!!!

    that it was "sea City", but I didn't believe her. Then one day, Hayley
    & Brian snuck out to a concert at the Sea City Arena, there was a wall
    w/ the name painted on it & that's how I finally came to believe /red!
    
    Also, someone (I'm sorry, I THINK it was Thel) asked about Hayley &
    Adam, and whether or not Hayley knew tha Adam was her father. It was
    during the Sea City Arena scenes that Adam sed he was Hayley's dad.
    
    There was a stampede at the concert they were seeing & Adam had heard
    that there was a teenaged girl injured. He was desperate to get on the
    other side of a blocked set of doors to see Hayley & make sure she was 
    alright. The guard wouldn't let him, so Adam sed, "I'm her father, Damn
    it!" So the guard led Adam to Hayley. Once there, Hay asked him, "What 
    the hell are *YOU* doing here?" They guard sez, "He sed he wuz your
    father." Hay sez to Adam, "You sed *WHAT!?!* Why would you say that?!?
    Adam told her he was just trying to make sure she was alright & the guy
    wouldn't let him by. She tells him that the thought of him being her 
    dad made her sick! He could never be her father, or take Harry's place!
    Adam was crushed of course!
    
    Well, that's my edition of AMC history! I never write in this topic,

    left his estate to the mother of his unborn child.  Therefore, Nat had

    I remember Margot Martin.  I don't remember too much about her trying
    to fake a pregnancy, but I remember her getting a facelift and having
    postcards sent to her loved ones from exotic vacation spots so that
    they wouldn't know where she was.  She did it because she was *SO* much
    older than Paul. 
    
    I forget how it all came out and how she got written out of the show,
    but I think that towards the end of the Paul Martin/Ann Martin reign,
    they were reunited.  Of course, Pheobe couldn't stand that relationship
    either.
    
    I can actually remember a lot of the early stuff but I'm sketchy on the
    

    VALMONT, no,no,no,no!  Natalie had the affair with Ross BEFORE
    she married Palmer - not during.  But it was while she was
    married to Palmer that Ross raped her but Palmer never believed
    her (sound familiar - he never believes his wives) and that's
    when he disowned Ross and divorced Natalie.  That's why Nat
    used to hate Ross and Palmer.
    
    True, she wasn't happily married to Alex but she didn't kill him.
    You have to admit he was a rat.
    
    And Silver attacked Nat with a knife and was going to kill her.
    Nat was just defending herself.  She was admittedly upset when
    she hid the body in the sofa.  And Palmer took advantage of her
    by pretending he was helping her when he hid the body in the
    duck pond.
    
    Really, VALMONT, Nat is just a poor helpless victim.  Again.
    
    I'm sure I can think of some more history details about poor Nat

    I think Tad and Hillery got divorced because Tad kep lying to
    Hillery and she couldn't trust him.  I think the final straw
    was when Aunt Phoebe gave Tad and Hillery a piece of property
    and Tad tried to sell it or turn it into some big development
    and make money and he was sneaking around and lying to do it.

    A looooooong time ago, Donna was a hooker in C-city. Her pimp was a 
    scumbag looser named Billy Clyde Tuggle. Her best friend, also a
    hooker, was named Estelle LaTour (sp?). Estelle was raped by Billy
    Clyde, but chose to have her baby. This is who Emily Ann is.
    
    Estelle was fatally injured in a car accident when EA was just an
    infant. EA was in the car at the time as a matter of fact. On her
    death bed, Estelle asked Donna to care for her daughter as if she
    were her own. Donna made the promise to do so. Donna married a man
    named Benny Sago, who also accepted EA as his own child.
    
    Through Emily ann's upbringing, she always knew that Donna was not her
    bio-mom. But she always thought that Benny was her bio-dad. She had a
    very close bond w/ Benny because she thought he was her "real" father.
    
    I don't remember quite how this happened, but she & Benny broke up,
    Donna married Chuck for a while, but both men ended up divorcing her &
    left town for a long time. Billy Clyde ended up going to prrison for
    some reason or another. He had no idea that he had impregnated Estelle.
    
    EA & Donna were on their own for quite some time. Benny came back to
    town (this was a little over a year ago) and wanted to start anew w/ 
    Donna. His gambling addiction, which had ruined their marriage to begin 
    with, seemed under control. Donna was considering it, until she found
    lottery tix in Benny's jacket pocket & then Chuck (the love of her
    life) returned to PV.
    
    Around this same time, Billy Clyde re-surfaced too. He was hanging out
    in his old dive when one of his old hooker friends, Lettie Jean met up
    w/ him. She told BC that EA must be his daughter. Simple math confirmed
    this suspicion.
    
    Billy Clyde was determined to claim his Emmie-hunny-stelle-baby and
    tell her about her parentage once her won her over. He assumed the role
    of a personal manager/music producer, since EA was taking voice lessons
    at PVU, and he was sure he could captivate her this way. He called
    himself "Mr. John Henry Rockafeller". He ended up opening a teen-dance 
    club & called it cyclops, which he asked EA to sing in. SHe worked for
    BC for a few months.
    
    She began a relationship w/ Joey Martin, which Billy Clyde openly
    rejected the idea of. Emily ann couldn't stand Billy Clyde interfering
    in her personal business all the time. He was quite the psychotic, BTW.
    Finally she told him to stay out of her business & that he had NO RIGHT
    to tell her who to see & what to do. BC then told her he was her real
    father. EA was crushed. She had no idea what to do. She ran off & no 
    body could find her. Joey ended up finding her & he asked her to marry
    him. The family didn't want them to marry, but they eloped anyway.
    
    Dixie, not knowing how much of a nut BC was befriended him. Tad, Donna, 
    and the WORLD, basically told her that he was a danger to her, EA & 
    everyone involved. Donna told her that BC would just as soon kill her
    as look at her. Dix didn't listen. He tried to connive her into helping 
    him convince EA that he loved her & wanted a chance to be her pappy!
    
    Dix tried to tell him that he should just leave EA alone, but he
    refused. One day he went over to EA's & EA was pregnant & married by
    this time. Ea tried to run from him & ended up falling down the stairs,
    killing her unborn child. Dix was pretty ticked off at BC for not
    listening to her. He was ticked of at Dixie for telling him off, and
    had fallen in disgusting, perverted love w/ his Dixie-bird.
    
    He ended up getting in to Dixie's car & chloroforming her from behind,
    kidnapping her & taking her off to some cabin where he planned to have
    some pseudo, mail order priest to marry them. He had the dress, the
    flowers, everything. He kept her locked away there until Tad, Derreck &
    the PVPD stormed the place. Derrick enede up being injured so severly
    that he was confined to a wheelchair for months. 
    
    Tad got a phone call from someone Billy Clyde paid off, saying that he
    must come to the bridge (which was supposedly AT THAT TIME, way off in
    the country someplace, NOT IN PV!) and that it had to do w/ the Tuggle
    investigation. Billy Clyde was still on the run & he wanted to stop
    Tad & Dixie's wedding which was to be held on THAT DAY.
    
    Tad got to the area, BC tied him up in a box car w/ a bomb, but Tad
    escaped. He came after BC, who was running away from the area, but the
    bomb went off while they were battling it out on the bridge. Tad was
    never found, but BC's body was. 
    
    I think you know by now, that *WE VIEWERS* were the only ones who saw
    Tad come to, get up in a daze & wander off w/ some truck driver, not
    knowing who or where he was or how he got there.
    
    Emily Ann seemed to recover, but the noters here knew that it wouldn't
    be long before she began showing those tuggle genes!!!
    
    Adn the rest is history!! :*)

    claimed paternity.  Knowing what a crazy Billy Clyde was, they
    never wanted anyone to find out who Em's real father was.
    Donna and Estelle were best friends and Donna knew.

    could see her (I think).  What was her name, who were her survivors,

    soap it was, I want to say One life to Live.  As a youngster I used to
    watch Edge of Night, One Life, All my Children and General Hospital
    with the teenage girls in the neighborhood and do remember this one
    too, just a little fuzzy!

    That story was on AMC.  Her name was Mary Kennicott, Katie's older
    sister.  She was married to Jeff Martin.  Jeff was a dr Mary was
    a nurse.  She was pregnant when she was killed.  She did keep coming
    back as a ghost for a while, but I don't remember how that story
    line was finished.

    
    Steph --> Jeremy spent a long time with the monks in Tibet after his 
    Mercenary days.  He used to regularly have flashes of insight from 
    all of this training --> especially when he was dating Silver Kane.  
    
    He also used his "sixth sense" to rescue Erica from Cobblers Island 
    and when Adam kidnapped Erica!!!!!!!!
    
    Suddenly, he NEVER uses it or ever has a flash of insight about 
    anything at all!
    
    Dorca remembers when he used to have all these flashes, since he

    Probably a real easy question for all you "historians" but my other

    up something from those dark caverns in my mind about Jeremy delivering

    Stuart stood in for Erica and Adam too.  Adam forced him to do it but I
    forget why.  But, that's where Stuart got the idea, from when he did it
    before.  That's what Stuart has on Adam, the fact that Erica and Adam
    are still legally married because Adam wasn't present at the divorce.
    I actually remember this but as I said, I do forget where Adam was at
    the time.  It seems to me he had to be "two places at once".

    I got Soap Opera Magazine this weekend and they had a pretty good
    article on the Martins.  I can't write it all in one note, so when I
    have time I'll enter what I can...
    
    The Martins are an old and respected family in Pine Valley.  Although
    they are financially secure, they believe that family honesty,
    integrity and fairness are more important than being rich.
    
    Despite their sense of compassion and morality, the Martins have
    certainly had their share of scandals and skeltons in the proverbial
    family closet.  Although Ruth and Joe are the only Martins currently
    living in Pine Valley, the family has left behind a legacy whick lives
    on daily for AMC fans.

    KATE MARTIN:  Deceased matriarch of the family.  Mother of Joe and
    Paul.  The typical grandma, who loved her family and treated everyone
    she met with friendship and kindness.
    
    JOE MARTIN:  A respected doctor and head of Pine Valley Hospital.

    eventually left town and went to Washington D.C. to practice law.
    
    RUTH MARTIN:  A nurse.  A kind and loving woman, who sometimes can't
    help meddling in family affairs.  Married to Joe Martin, she is the
    natural mother of Joey and the adoptive mother of Tad.  Previously
    married to Ted Brent with whom she raised her sister Amy's illegitimate
    son Phil.
    
    JEFF MARTIN:  A doctor.  Joe's son from his first wife.  Kind hearted
    and very dedicated to his career.  Jeff's private life was a mess. 
    After succombing to the charms of Erica Kane, he married her - only to
    find out that she had aborted his child.  After his divorce from Erica,
    Jeff found comfort in the arms of Mary Kennicott and they were married. 
    After her tragic murder, he left town.  Single once again, Jeff
    recently returned to Pine Valley for a brief visit, but decided not to
    stay.

    is currently on promotional tour.
    
    BOBBY MARTIN:  Joe's son with his first wife.  He went up to the attic
    to polish his skis and hasn't been seen since.
    
    JOEY MARTIN:  Youngest son of Ruth and |Joe.  Brother of Tad.  A
    college student, Joey was always in the shadow of his bbrother Tad.  He
    married Emily Ann, but fell for Katie Kenicott.  When Emily Ann
    realized she was close to losing Joey, she tried to kill Katie and was
    taken away to get professional help.  Joey then decided to follow in
    his father's medical footsteps and left for California.
    
    TAD MARTIN:  Appropriately called "Tad the Cad", he has had affairs
    with most of Pine Valley's eligible young women.  Adopted son of Ruth
    and Joe.  His natural parents are Ray Gardner and Opal Gardner
    Cortlandt.  Brother of late Jenny Gardner.  Tad never took anything too
    seriously and it seemed like he was always in trouble.  His first
    marriage was to Dottie Thornton.  Hilary Wilson, the daughter of
    Langley Wallingford, came next.  When he married Dixie Cooney, it
    looked like Tad was finally ready to settle down, but his womanizing
    ways led to divorce.  While separated from Dixie, he had an affair with
    Brooke English and fathered her son Jamie.  When he and Dixie
    reconciled and were about to be remarried, Tad was supposedly killed
    in a fall from a bridge while trying to capture Billy Clyde Tuggle. 
    Everyone in Pine Valley thinks he's dead, but viewers last saw him
    hitchhiking west.

Let's see if my memory is working at all this afternoon.  After all, this was

Daisy is Nina's mother.  Palmer threatened her to stay way from Nina while
she (Nina) was growing up.  Later, she came to town under the name of Monique (I 
think), and became good friends with Nina and Cliff.  Nina didn't know Monique
was really Daisy, her mom, at first.  Myra (Palmer's maid) is Daisy's mother.


I don't remember much about Adam's first wife, but when Adam first came to
town and married Erica, he had Stuart hidden away in the mansion, and had
Stuarts wife, Joanna, as his housekeeper.  Joanna was in-love with Adam at 
the time.

    Palmer did keep Daisy hidden away for a while... As we used to see her
    in the attic.... or a light going by the window.. And she showed up at
    the masquerade ball Palmer had.... She snuck down so she could she her
    daughter.

    her mother because Nina thought Daisy was dead.  One day, Daisy

    She was shot during a struggle with Natalie.  Silver was going to kill
    her because she wanted Jeremy.  Nat hid her body in a storage compartment 
    in her sofa and Palmer discovered it.  They then took the body rolled up 
    in a rug and dumped it in Palmers pond.  I believe it was Dixie who found 
    the body.

    what I recall... Jeremy kept having visions of a woman in a forest who
    was in some kind of trouble or danger. He eventually found Silver in
    this state but she didn't know who she was and between the two of them
    they came up with the name of Noel. I don't remember the details but
    she and Natalie were fighting over Jeremy and Silver disguised herself
    as a burglar and broke into Natalie's apartment. They argued and
    struggled over the gun which of course went off and killed Silver. Nat
    stuffed Silver into a chest in her livingroom (bet her place smelled
    great!) Palmer figuered it all out and bailed Nat out by having hte
    body removed and dumped in the pond on his property. Prior to all that
    there was some weird stuff going on with Goldie (Silver's mom, Erica's
    'stepmom') and Dr. Lazar. They were hypnotizing her and trying to
    program her to kill Erica so that Goldie could get total ownership of
    some island that Erica and Silver inherited from their Father. I think
    that Goldie went overboard and was never heard from again except in
    ghost form!! This is all very vague, so fill in the missing parts!

    What I remember about Silver -- she honestly didn't know who she was
    when Jeremy found her and called her Noel. He fell in love with her --
    doesn't he always fall in love with the women he rescues? Dr. Lazar
    showwed up, claiming to be her psychiatrist and wanting to help her
    remember who she really was. He and Goldie were hypnotizing her and
    programming her to kill Erica, but somehow, their plan backfired, and
    there was a scene on a boat where Dr. Lazar pushed Goldie overboard.
    
    Jeremy did sleep with Silver, and was living with her when he started
    to become interested in "poor abused" Natalie again. Silver tried to
    kill Natalie because she was so insecure...
    
    Does anyone remember that there were two actresses playing Silver?
    The first Silver (Noel) had short dark hair and blue eyes, and was
    quite petite. I've seen her in commercials since... The second
    Noel was taller with red hair and green eyes.

    I have a question.  I just watched the tape of Erica and Adam's
    marriage and Opal said something to Erica about Adam having an
    illegitimate daughter.  I thought that Adam was married to Skye's
    mother when she was born, and Hayley wasn't illegitimate because her
    mom was married to Harry Vaughn at the time.  So, what am I missing?

    Jo -->I brought this up in the regular AMC note.  I don't get the big
    deal about Bianca being illegit if Erica was married (regardless of who
    she was married to).  But I guess they are talking about not being
    married to the child's father, so that would make Hayley illegit as

    Yesterday, I was going through all of my tapes and labeling them.  I
    stumbled on a really old one.  It had on it an episode from 1988. The
    show opened up with Skye in a coma.  Tom was drunk and Barbara was
    trying to rescue him.  Jesse was talking with Charlie (the dirty blond
    one, not the darkhaired one) and Cecily.  Ross was in prison talking to
    a shrink and someone we can put on the GONE LIST -- JEB TIDWELL.  He
    was the guy in prison who posed as a preacher who wanted to kill Ross. 
    Cindy and Stuart were talking about Skye getting better for their

    Last night I picked up SPRING 1992 Soap Opera Digest.  It had some
    great article in it....
    
    For each soap it featured The Years Best and Worst 
    
    BEST STORYLINE
    Molly's Leukemia
    The discovery of Molly Cudahy's leukemia kicked off one of the most
    informative and comprehensive -- if not controversial -- storylines
    that AMC has ever done.  Barbara Cudahy and Travis Montgomery's
    decision to conceive a child who not easy, nor was it depicted that
    way.  AMC explored all moral viewpoints and portrayed a full range of
    repercussions:  Tom fell off the wagon; Travis and Erica's daughter,
    Bianca, underwent abandoment trauma; and both Travis and Barbara lost
    their marriages.  An untimely departure for Larkin Malloy (Travis)
    meant that this storyline was forced to end conveniently, but that in
    no way diminishes AMC's intent or execution.

    MOST RIVETING PERFORMANCE
    Richard Shoberg (Tom Cudahy)
    
    Richard Shoberg had a lot to work with this year:  betrayal, anger, a
    relapse into drinking, recovery, hope, rejection.  And because it's
    been so long since he's had a story of any depth, we'd forgotten how
    exciting a performer Shoberg can be.  So used to his Mr. Nice Guy act,
    we forget that alcoholic Tom fights a tough battle every day, that he
    still harbors deep feelings for Brooke, and that he often feels very
    much alone.  Shoberg made all of this perfectly clear in just a
    handful of well-executed, dramatic scenes that not only entertained,
    but also underscored.  When Tom is relegated to the back burner for too
    long, we suffer withdrawal.

Tad Martin

Tad Martin had it all -- looks, brains and a great sense of humor.  It's no 
wonder he was a viewer favorite.  Fans followed Tad through every mess 
he got himself into -- from his problems with the mob, to his divorce 
from Dixie, to his feud with Billy Clyde Tuggle -- never waivering in 
their support.  His expected marriage to Dixie was a long awaited event, 
but wasn't to be:  An explosion blew Tad off a bridge on his would be 
wedding day.  although it was difficult to say good bye to a cherished 
hero, it may not be over yet.  when last seen, an amnesiac Tad was 
wandering around California, so there is always the hope that he will 
return to Pine Valley -- if he ever remembers the way.

MOST DISAPPOINTING MARRIAGE
Opal Purdy And Palmer Cortlandt

When Opal Purdy and Palmer Cortlandt said their "I dos," a fun, offbeat 
union was expected.  Sadly, Opal's wardrobe was about as offbeat as it 
got.  Palmer used to be devious, a master manipulator and a shrewd 
businessman, but since his wedding, he's lost his zest for living.  
Granted, contented people don't usually spar with their help of feel the 
need to conduct underhanded business dealings, but that's what we expect 
from Palmer.  Instead we're getting a henpecked, doting husband -- 
boring.  Palmer doesn't even run his dogs anymore.  As for Opal, her 
sole function appears to be collecting and spewing oneliners.  
Occasionally, she plays the saxaphone or matchmaker -- two activities 
that have brought little success.  Where are the Palmer and Opal we know 
and love?  Marriage, unfortunately, has had a tranquilizing effect on 
both of them.

    Would someone refresh my memory about the fire at the Chateau and
    how Donna, Ellen, Mark were involved!  Who set the fire or was it

    Jazz-->>  To try to answer your question on whatever happened
    to the Skye and Swill romance.  They broke up when Skye decided
    to move away from her father and Swill.
    
    Swill wasn't ready to put Skye first before anyone and Skye
    felt like she wasn't important enough for her father.  It
    seems as though she wanted a excuse to leave.  
    
    Swill turned into a "skitz" when his family meaning his
    Uncle Palmer and DUMB DUMB DIXIE threw him out of the
    Courtland House and Uncle Palmer fired him from Courtland
    Electronics and let Creepy take his place.
    
    Palmer did this when Swill tried to frame Creepy for 
    something he really didn't do that time at least.
    Palmer didn't want Swill in the family and didn't
    trust him at all.
    
    DUMB DUMB DIXIE also disowned him basically as her
    brother as well because of Creepy.  She doesn't want
    to believe anything her brother has to say, even when
    Swill was even telling the truth about Creepy. *^)

    Skye was a recovering alcoholic and needed to get away from her
    father's manipulation since it is part of what drove her to drink.  So,
    she accepted a job in a faraway town counseling alcoholics.  She and

    all gone. *^)  He was found dead in the water. 
    
    I'm not sure about the cemetary part of it.  If  they would have had
    a funeral DUMB DUMB DIXIE probably would have shown out of guilt for
    the dead.  PPPLLLLEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ she's always good for a few
    tears.

    The way I remember it, Devon was in love with Shean Cuddahy,
    Tom's broher.  Remember Shean was a real playboy and he broke
    Devon's heart and she started drinking because of him.  She
    married Wally on the rebound.

    and she married Wally on the rebound from Dan.  I don't remember Sean

    Poor ol' Henry was already dead when AMC first began.  Even though
    Myrtle didn't start off on the show, she was supposed to have lived
    in Pine Valley before joining the circus and was friendly with the 
    Martins before she left town.  I miss Kate.  She was a real sweetheart.

    personally couldn't stand the kid but it would nice to know why Travis

    Karen -->>  Let me try to explain what happened to Bratinella
    and the custody battle.
    
    Erica and Travis went to court over Bianca because Travis felt
    Bianca should be with her and obviously Erica felt she should
    be with her.  It all really took a turn for the worse when 
    Erica found out that Travis had got Barbara pregnant to try
    to save Molly.
    
    Erica really was in love with Jack and after she found out
    about Travis and Barbara having a child, she went back to Jack.
    That ended up coming out in the trial that Erica was with Jack
    and she lied on the stand saying that she and Jack weren't together
    when she and Travis remarried.
    
    Erica wanted Jack to lie, but he couldn't and Erica then
    blamed Jack for her loosing Biance because since Erica did
    not tell the whole truth the courts with the help from 
    Travis's attorney let him have custody of Bianca and she
    could have visiting rights while he took her to Seattle
    to live with he and Barbara.
    
    Erica was very devistated over this and blamed Jack for her
    loosing Bianca.  The courts felt with the circumstances given
    Bratinella would be better off with her father.  After the
    trial was over Bratinella went with Travis and Jack and Erica
    did break up.

    Bianca was gone.  That child must be the worst child actor that I've

    Nick is Phil's Father and he was involved with Ruth's sister (can't
    remember her name but Amy keeps popping up in my head).  Ruth
    and Joe adopted Phil.  Charlie belongs to Tara and Phil.  (Chuck
    prtended to be his father when Phil was presumed  killed in
    Vietnam.) Charlie should really only be about 17 years old as he
    was born after my first born who is 18. That's soapsville for ya.
